He's does an excellent job covering Disneyland for the LA Times, and few people know more about the park than he does. He draws on this knowledge for this fun tale.

By Amazon Customer This book was such a remarkable turd it is absurd, I mean just look at the cover. YOU NEVER have a cover with words of different fonts. I absolutely hated the part where Darth Vader and Princess Leia had an incredibly graphic sexual encounter on the Pirates of the carribean ride, I won't got into details but putting a light-saber where it doesn't belong was not what I thought the "back-stage" in the title of this book referred to. I couldn't believe the audacity of having Mickey Mouse the head of a death camp beneath the Calfornia Screamin' ride. Although I respect MacDonald's want to take risks, I absolutely thought the decapitation sequence of Cinderella was similarly too graphic. 6-paragraphs about spinal fluid? REALLY MACDONALD?? I loved the ending where everyone was killed by a presidential nuclear strike, very politically topical. 2 out of 5 stars.

By John Frost Who hasn't visited Disneyland and wondered what goes on behind the scenes of the happiest place on Earth? It can't all be rainbows and churros, right?Brady MacDonald imagines a world where Disneyland's backstage is populated by brand's most famous characters, who, it turns out, are very real indeed.The story is set against the Disneyland Resort's very modern predicament of what to do with the Star Wars and Marvel brands. As the characters plot to have their voices heard by their corporate masters, I found myself drawn into the imagined conflict and taking sides.Without getting into too much detail, I enjoyed the elements of satire and parody and thought MacDonald did a fine job with the action scenes. Disney fans will have fun imagining the backstage lives of characters they think they know.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Autumnal colours in the palm of your hand By Brian Nimo Tirimanne I had looked forward to receiving this and it arrived this afternoon. I wasn't disapointed. This is a book that transcends age or culture and is accessible to all. "Welcome to the Neighborwood" deals with the natural inter-dependendence between various species and the importance of realising how imperative that is for the balance and health of our planet, suggested gently by the texts and visuals of this lovely book. First, the paper: used both for the page itself and used in the construction, the paper is substantial with the look and feel of handmade paper in muted autumnal colours with wonderful use of those hues and tones. Second, the art work: with the look of a collage, Ms. Sheehy has removed the idea of shading instead of which the she uses color blocks to suggest depth and structure and it works beautifully. Third, the construction: with layering and paper engineering the author creates what at first glance may look like simple pop-ups but upon closer inspection prove to highly sophisticated. There is no attempt at natural accuracy, what she gives us is the idea in three dimension and the viewer fills in that sort of detail as much or as little as needed. This is not, most assuredly, a put down. Rather, it is what makes this work so marvelous as it speaks to minds of all ages. The pop -ups are beautiful, so beautiful that one turns pages with great reluctance. Fourth, the text: Ms. Sheehy provides each double page spread a single paragraph about the animal represented and then tantalisingly builds a text bridge to the following page, drawing reader and viewer alike along for the ride.As is quite obvious, I find this book just lovely to read and to enjoy. I appreciate the wonder of this book and sincerely hope that you do too.

The cover feels soft and gold lettering enhances art, while board book pages are sturdy for little hands. All at a great price! I plan to use this book as a baby gift.

McCain I love the simple illustrations, soft inviting colors, and thick pages that are easy for my baby to turn by herself. She loves the gold foiling of the letters on the cover and is always closing the book to see them. The poems are really basic and cute, although some are kind of lame and one makes a reference to watermelon seeds sticking to you "like chicken pox." Not something I really want to visualize while reading a bed time story to my baby. That's the only really weird poem. The rest are ok. It would be a great gift.

One suspect, Anthony Porter, was identified by eyewitnesses as the shooter and was quickly convicted and condemned to die. Just before his scheduled execution in 1998, a team of Northwestern University students and their professor produced evidence - including a confession - that another man, Alstory Simon, was the murderer. Pleading guilty, Simon was sentenced to 37 years in prison (by this time, Illinois had abolished capital punishment). But fifteen years later (2014), the charges against Simon were vacated and he was released from prison.Today, two young people's deaths are unavenged and all but forgotten. In this compelling true-life story, author Matthew Shaer investigates the circumstances of how two men were convicted of the crime and the efforts of a professor and his students to exonerate Anthony Porter and pin the murder on Alstory Simon. Was the Northwestern University professor a hero, or was he guilty of encouraging his students to use fabricated evidence and deceitful tactics to get a confession from Alstory Simon? Was the police investigation of the murder thorough enough or were they just trying to close the case quickly when they accused Anthony Porter? Lots of questions linger in the aftermath, with too few answers.It's one of those cant-put-it-down stories.I borrowed the book for free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Unique Fae Lore And Strong Characters By Debbie Cole I'm not usually one for novels about Fae because faeries have never really interested me. I took a risk reading Shattered Blue and I was pleasantly surprised! Horowitz is an extremely lyrical writer with a gift for beautiful poetry. Noa's poems are actually my favourite part of this book because they are so well written. Horowitz's poems actually reminded of the poems I was taught to memorize in grade school: simple, colorful and concise with deep meaning through imagery. Nomad girls are Lost Ones too, with leaves at foot and crown; they too seek shelter in the trees, drink Red and Gold and Brown. their circlets made of steam and rain, their lashes powdered ash, they’re firelight, they’re fox’s kill, they’re blood and sweat and scratch.Shattered Blue was a well written, beautiful story about Noa: the girl with the dead sister, the living twin, the survivor. While struggling to come to grips with the death of her twin sister, Noa falls for the mysterious Callum; a fae who needs human Light to survive. Callum's secrets overflow into Noa's life causing her understanding of reality to change forever. Shattered Blue is a masterpiece of well written young adult literature with gorgeous poetry and strong familial bonds.Horowitz takes fae lore and makes it her own with war, elected royalty and familial betrayal. She creates types of fae powers that are identified by color codes which was really interesting. Red fae can read minds, Blue can heal and alter elements, Green alter emotions and Clear fae are a unique and exciting plot twist I can't discuss without giving away some of the fun of reading Shattered Blue. I loved how faes all had their own abilities, but also how each type of fae can be born to any family regardless of their parent's color!The lore of the Fae realm was incredibly exciting and well thought out.I think the only part of the novel that I really disliked was the love triangle. I hate novels with love triangles and they often ruin what are otherwise amazing novels. I mean, if the main character can't decide they should let go of both love interests instead of hurting those they "love". I have quit series or avoided reading certain novels because of love triangles. Unfortunately, Shattered Blue is sneaky about developing the love triangle so I didn't see it coming until I was well invested. Although Noa fights her feelings, there is the inevitable "I love them both!" scene that makes me want to punch things or throw my e-reader. The love triangle involves brothers which makes it somehow worse than a regular love triangle. To be fair, if you enjoy or don't mind love triangles then you'll be pleased by how well it's executed. I just hate love triangles.I really enjoyed Shattered Blue because of the flowing writing style, strong characters (other than the deplorable love triangle) and the use of poetry to further develop the plot. The cliffhanger ending has me intrigued for book two. Seriously, this could actually become a new bestselling young adult romance novel.This book will appeal to readers who enjoy young adult romance novels, books featuring the fae, brother love triangles and paranormal. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. EXCELLENT BOOK! By Kelley Shattered Blue by Lauren Horowitz tells the story of Noa, a girl whose story captivated me from the first sentence. Noa, who recently lost her sister, attends Harlow Academy, a boarding school as a day student. While she used to board there, her sisters death changed things. Noa and her family for many months goes through life almost dead, with little other than her poetry to comfort her, at least until she meets Callum. She finally begins to talk about things and open up. Of course, things are not quite as they seem and as the story continues we see our characters tried and tested.What I liked the most about this story were the deeply developed characters. Horowitz is simply fantastic at taking even the most non-essential characters and giving them depth. The story was well rounded and the final twist at the end was one I never expected. Even now I am on pins and needles waiting for the continuation of this trilogy.If you enjoy fantasy books, you will like Shattered Blue, this series has the potential to build and I look forward to Book 2, where we will have a different setting for the novel. Again I find myself wishing I was reading the final book in the series instead of the first, because now I have to wait for the rest to be released! I am giving this book 5/5 faes for a fantastic start to what promises to be an amazing trilogy.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review

I'm not sure many of my students will relate to Curial being rich, however, I think many will relate to other parts of his situation or to Marcus. I know the story line will keep them interested. This book holds his attention more than any other. He will sit and "read" this book on his own for a long time, and of course he loves the siren sound button. This book is also made very well. It has taken quite a bit of abuse and you can't even tell.

There is a great moral to this story and this is an excellent way for children (and adults) to learn a beautiful life value.

By Julie L Davis Author Amy Rogers takes you on a journey of tangled emotions as a young girl named Twinkle learns that family ties are stronger than she knows, and that being different is what makes her special. Twinkled is a great book for any young girl trying to fit in while, at the same time, struggling to determine who is really is.

About the Author

Awesome can't wait for the next one By Mindjacked Oh my gosh, can it be true that we are already up to book four in the Seven Wonders series, and I have to say the book left me wanting the next one now! Peter Lerangis you have done it again with your fast paced, high octane, surprise around every corner style of writing for middle graders, it is awesome!!!Jack and his friend are in a life and death battle for the Loculi hidden in the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World so they can hopefully reunite them and save their lives before the genetic mutation G7W kills them on their 14th birthdays. But now they find out if they do that and it will raise the lost city of Atlantis and possibly set off a massive chain reaction that could kill millions of people and change the face of earth, so what will it be? The tailor must once again stitch together the sailor, tinker, and soldier back together along with more friends now and see what happens.Like I said this is a exciting fast paced book that is sure to keep you guessing. The characters also keep it fresh and playful as you never know exactly what to expect from them as well, one minute the stone cold killer can be stalking its prey, than stop and help a little defenseless animal, or befriend the island monkeys, you just never know. The adventure and suspense will draw you in and you will be stuck until you are done and yelling for the next book. Don't stay up to late past your bedtime. :)

By Greg Polansky After having visited the Colossus of Rhodes in modern day Greece, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in a pocket universe, and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus in some sort of Babylonian after-life, now our fearsome threesome (Jack, Cass and Aly) hatch a plan to both find the fourth Loculus and to get themselves placed within the enemy stronghold. Why do they wish to go their enemies? Because they destroyed the Loculus of Healing. Or they thought that they did and now they wish to put it back together. Based on the cover it's clear it has something to do with Phidias' Statue of Zeus. But that is just the beginning because this story is full of surprises, old friends, death, and even time travel!This is probably the climax of the series (book 4 of 7) and so a bunch of things happen to move the plot forward. It's a quick and easy read and makes you want the next book to be out already. Can't wait to see what happens In The Legend of the Rift.

Adventure, Mystery and Heartbreak By Young Mensan BookParade This historical fiction book is about an adventure of a young girl, about age 14 that works with the famous Sherlock Holmes, and Arsene Lupin. They uncover mysteries about their hometown and many other places. The adventures that these three characters go on are a mouthful, but a journey of fear, hope, and mystery. My favorite part is when Sherlock Holmes tells the police officers there is something about a local murder. They don’t believe him, but the thing they found is real. He shouts, “You will be needing my help later!” I love this part because I know he is going to be right, and he is going to prove them wrong. We have read through a number of other series and this looked intriguing. I have to say that this was a great book that really had a fun story and even better, strong characters. You get to see Sherlock Holmes in a new way and better yet as a young person. My girls loved this and if you love mysteries, you will love this too.*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*

By Jeremy True Nice book for my class, I use it around Mother's Day before I have kids make cards for their parents for Mother's and Father's day. It gives kids ideas about what their parents do for them and what they should be grateful for.

By This Kid Reviews Books This is a very sweet book about how you can make a great gift for your parents by just doing what you do best. Pete the Cat is a great role model for young kids. He looks at life with a positive attitude. I like how, while Pete is thinking of what he can do, the picture shows his idea, which is good in thought, but it usually ends in trouble (mowing the grass = accidentally mowing a flowerbed). It made me chuckle! This is a marvelous book! Tho book comes with a poster, little cards for your parents and stickers too!*NOTE I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
