Hank the Cowdog has seen dry summers in his years as the Head of Ranch Security, but nobody on the ranch has seen a drought like this. Ponds have dried up, the creek is down to a trickle, pastures have turned to burned toast, and the cows are kicking up clouds of dust. Then, to top it all off, Pete the Barncat hatches a dastardly plot to ruin Loper's birthday! The last thing the cowboys need is a prairie fire, but that's what they get, and it begins to look like the next roundup might be their last. What the ranch really needs is a good rain to bring back the grass . . . and Loper's good mood!

It makes me laugh every time, even though I know what's coming. Hats off to John from a fellow writer. I loved reading it to my students and I love reading it in the privacy of my own home. Please keep writing!

Closer then Slim's Goodbye, The Case of the Blazing Sky, or any other event you can think of. A fire destroys all of Loper's hay, and most of his cows. Slim loses his job. Loper loses his ranch. Hank loses his self confidence. And Drover is… Drover. A sneaky plot, a raging fire, and a killer cow are all packed together in hank 65#.

The light-hearted humor makes it different from every other book out there. I have an 8 year old and a two year old and they both find it amusing for different reasons. My 8 year old just loves potty humor, so of course he laughs at how silly it is. My 2 year old loves looking at the pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed it because of the clever little puns throughout! Everyone should get this book for the fun loving kids in their lives!

In fact, he thinks all birds are called Sam Seagull now. He loves this book, and so do I. Such a fun read. You can sit down time and time again with the children's book. This book is not for parents that are uptight. Author has a good sense of humor.

I was having a bad day, but the book ended up making me laugh more than they were even. From the play on words to the quirky and whimsical illustrations it just cheered my day up. LOVE THIS BOOK

The cherished Bear family is coming to a new generation of toddler and preschool readers!

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962 and the Bear family celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012! Here the charming and lovable Bear family is once again introducing children to the typical issues and questions that they face every day.

In The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You Book, little readers are introduced to the importance of manners, through gentle reminders given to Brother, Sister, and Honey as they await their milk and cookies. The shorter story length and well-loved characters provide toddlers a perfect introduction to valuable life lessons and routines. Ages 2 to 5.

By LeeAnn G Taylor I grew up with the Berenstain Bears teaching me all manner of socially appropriate behavior through great quality children’s books. Reading was and still is one of my favorite things to do any time I have a few extra minutes (or hours!).I was excited to crack open this cute little board book and see what new adventures Mama Bear, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey had in store for me. Small in size, the thick-paged board book is perfect for little hands still learning to turn the pages. And what better topic for me to read to my strong-willed toddler than a book about manners? In The Berenstain Bears’ Please & Thank You Book Brother, Sister, and Honey yell “I want a cookie!” and Mama Bear is shocked at their poor manners! In the span of 20 short pages, Mama Bear walks her cubs through a reminder of when to use the magic words – please, thank you, and you’re welcome – and rewards them for doing so with some of her scrumptious cookies and milk.My “big” kids (ages 2 and 5) listened intently to the book and the littlest asked to read it over and over again, like little ones tend to do! It’s a great book for me to read during our “cool down” times after tantrums as a simple reminder of appropriate behavior and manners.

Awesome Read for Children By Jalynn Patterson About the Book:The cherished Bear family is coming to a new generation of toddler and preschool readers. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike carries on his parents' love of creating Berenstain Bear stories from an area in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which looks a lot like Bear Country. My Review:For years we have been entertained by the very character driven Berenstain Bears. Thankfully, the son of Stan and Jan Berenstain has continued the tradition his parents began all those years ago. We may have his parents to thank for introducing us to this fantastic bear family but we have Mike Berenstain to thank for introducing them to a new generation. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know very well, my family's love of this bear family. We grab every movie or book pertaining to the Berenstain Bears. My husband enjoy them because they remind us of our childhood, but we also love them because we know what kind of character traits that they introduce to our children. Good strong morals and manners are always good for a child to have and this is what the Berenstain Bears offer our children. In The Berenstain Bears:Please&Thank You Book, Brother, Sister, and Honey learn real quick how far good manners will get them. This sweet little board book, teaches us that it is a good thing to use manners when asking for something that we want. And they also learn how happy that it will please them as well as their parents. This book is perfect for little hands, it is a board book with approximately 20 pages, written for the 2-5 age group. This book has short, easy to read sentences. Great for a read aloud book and is short & sweet for those eager, little angel babies that can't still."Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Cute book teaching manners to kids By jia_biswas Almost everybody knows The Berenstain Bears’; they were introduced to the world by authors Stan and Jan Berenstain. But when they passed away (Stan in 2005 and Jan in 2012) their son Mike Berenstein, carried on with his parents legacy and has introduced a new book,The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank you Book to this classic line.My daughter is 17 months old, every day she is learning new words, trying to speak them as she goes. I have read the story a few times to my daughter already and she had learned the term thank you. I was so impressed by her today, when I gave her a cookie she told me “Thank you” well it almost sounded like it. I must give this book the credit that my daughter at this small age learned some manners and is now expressing them too.The quality of the story book is impressive too. The thick cardboard pages are perfect for small readers and babies with no sharp corner that night hurt them. The pictures are bright and colorful and really catch my daughter’s attention. The book is recommended for Ages 1 to 5 and I would say is perfect when teaching kids the manners of Please, Thank you and Welcome.**I received the book to read and give my unbiased review

The Marvellous Land Of Oz: Color Illustrated, Formatted for E-Readers (Unabridged Version), by L. Frank Baum

From School Library Journal Gr 3 Up-The second book in Baum's Oz series and the sequel to The Wizard of Oz features many of the elements of the original story and introduces several new characters, including Tip, a young rascal, his guardian Mombi, a witch, and several sidekicks, including Jack Pumpkinhead, They journey to the Emerald City to escape Mombi's wrath and learn that the Scarecrow, the city ruler, has been displaced by General JinJin and her all-girl army, armed with knitting needles. In an effort to restore the Scarecrow to his throne, they travel to the Winkie kingdom ruled by the Tin Woodmen and search out the good witch Glinda. Other helpers include a flying beast named Gump, a highly educated Wogglebug, and some field mice. Narrator Tara Sands deftly moves from one quirky character to another, creating a unique accent and vocal range for each one and giving them emotional depth. For example, Tip's mischievous nature is apparent as he plots to scare Mombie and General JinJin has an authoritative voice as she leads her troops forward. A successful continuation of a much loved story with spot-on narration that will attract new fans.-Edie Ching, University of Maryland, College Parkα(c) Copyright 2013. Review Winner of AudioFile's Best Audiobooks 2009: 'Liza Ross capably handles the many characters in Baum's sequel to THE WIZARD OF OZ. She develops a voice and sensibility for each character and adapts her voice for quick-moving dialogue and nonstop adventures. Ross depicts a youthful Tip, a boy who lives with his guardian, the witch Mombi. The witch brings to life Jack Pumpkinhead, whom Ross incarnates with a voice as stiff as the squash-headed figure's unbending legs. Threats from Mombi send these unlikely heroes to the Emerald City, where they unite with the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman to recapture the city from an all-girl army. New characters join the familiar ones, all of whom Ross imbues with appropriate vocal qualities.' - AudioFile

Jannuzi Although he was never to enjoy the success he had with his first Oz book, Baum sure tried hard with this one (the second in the series). I like this far better than the first, more famous work. It starts off, if I remember from reading it 30 years ago, with Tip living in a cottage deep in a forest in Oz. The witch who keeps him is set on turning him into stone, so Tip must escape. This sets up a whole series of wonderful adventures and interesting characters. The Pumpkinhead character is my favorite. If only someone like Tim Burton would get a hold of this and turn it into a film, then maybe the whole Baum Oz series would get as much recognition as say the Potter series is now getting.

You can get all the Oz books at Project G, including illustrated versions of most.BUT. It is all in the formatting. This review is for the Eltanin Publishing editions, which as of this writing has done the second and third books of the series (Marvelous Land and Ozma). They have done a masterful job in these two efforts. It is all about the illustrations. I prefer my kids to read books on our iPad. But, for books with illustrations, I have them read the paper versions instead. I haven't forgotten the illustrations, even so many years later, of the books I read as a child. And so I want my children to have the same experience. So the test for whether a children's ebook makes the cut for me is in the quality of the pictures. For books like the Oz series, books that are in the public domain, this means how well a job did the editor do formatting the text and scanning the illustrations. Results vary widely. Always "download the sample" if you are buying them here at Amazon.Another thing to consider: did the editor include ALL the illustrations. Perhaps some were omitted, on a rush job. These "editors" are taking things from the public domain, formatting them, and selling them for a couple bucks. Fine. But are they doing a good job? Are they being thorough?I am very picky about this. I want my kids to have ALL the pictures, every one. Otherwise we will just read the paper book. But for the Oz books, there is one additional wildcard. Even some very fine versions on Project G still omit a particular kind of illustration: the "first-word-in-the-chapter" illustration. Baum's original books (and these are what are in the public domain) began most chapters with an illustration, and the first letter of the first sentence was integrated into the illustration.Almost without exception, ebook editors have been omitting these illustrations when reproducing the Oz series. Even very nicely done versions (check out the Ozma of Oz illustrated version on Project G for an example), without these beginning chapter illustrations, are going to be missing a lot of artwork. The Eltanin versions get it right. Text formatting is perfect (one expects nothing less on this front). The scans of the illustrations are sharp and clear (this can vary widely for other publishers, always download the sample!). And ALL illustrations are included.I do hope they continue the series for the other 12 books of the series. I would be interested in any of their other children's book projects, if they continue on at this high standard.

This is the one that will reel you in to the series By Amazon Customer We have all grown up with the Wizard of Oz movie, book one, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is basically the same story as the movie with some slight differences. Marvelous Land of Oz, the second book of the series is the one that will reel you in and have you wanting to read more. I just finished reading this one, a chapter each night, to my preschool age son. He loved it, especially the surprise ending which I won't spoil for you. Jack Pumpkinhead, the Woggle Bug and a mean witch named Mombi are all new characters, even more colorful than some of those from book one. I loved it, Jonah and I are really looking forward to starting the Ozma of Oz after we finish Black Beauty which we will begin tonight. I hope you will fall in love with the Oz series like we have. It will provide you with a great opportunity for some quality time reading with your children or grandchildren. I think that I look forward to reading time as much as he does.

About the Author School Zone Publishing Company began as The School Zone Learning Center in 1972. The Learning Center was a retail teachers supply outlet, specializing in sales to teachers, with two stores in Grand Rapids, Michigan. About 1974, schools instituted changes in educational methods that affected the home and schools. Changes included introducing new teaching methods in math and English and eliminating workbooks provided on a shared basis for home use. With these changes, parents experienced difficulty finding educational material for use at home. Local parents turned to the Learning Centers, requesting workbooks and other at-home teaching aids. In response, the Centers formulated six workbooks and printed 1,000 copies of each. The books sold out in six months. An expanded workbook series was developed and received equally enthusiastic acceptance. School Zone Publishing Company was incorporated in 1979. A new line of workbooks had been written and illustrated by late 1979. In January 1980, the line was printed and School Zone began operations. Market response was extremely favorable. The product line has expanded yearly and currently includes almost two hundred educational products.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. A great workbook By E. Kennen This 32-page workbook from the "Get Ready!" series is a great tool for your preschooler. Kids must circle shapes, count shapes, color shapes, and draw shapes -- in other words, they get a lot of practice using their motor and thinking skills. For most of the books, shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, oval, etc.) are presented one at a time, with a series of increasingly difficult (but age-appropriate) tasks. In the final pages of the books, they must use different colors for different types of shapes on the same page. This is a reasonably priced neat little book that your child will enjoy, particularly with a bit of adult instruction. In addition to the other benefits, it provides good practice in following directions.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. great shapes book By Renee Ligman This was a nice easy book for preschool homeschoolers. I am using it to give my 2 almost 3 year old a head start and she is really enjoying learning in a fun way. I would definitely buy again!

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great bargain for a buck or two! By Lola Bunny My 4-year-old loves these, we purchased several, all of them were great. Definitely a bargain for a dollar or two. However, I would not pay more than $2 for each one of these. They aren't worth more than that.
