It can be hard to convince kids to go to sleep when they're convinced that they're missing out on all the fun after bedtime. But when a soft, snuggly bunny is involved, bedtime can be fun, too! With a bunny puppet that parents can animate and adorable animal illustrations, Snuggle Bunny is a treat for every kid getting tucked in. Snuggle Bunny puts away his toys, brushes his big fluffy ears, and gives bedtime hugs, encouraging kids to do the same. (Though, of course, they'll be brushing their teeth, not their big fluffy ears!) And as he snuggles up tight and closes his eyes, kids will, too. With Snuggle Bunny, kids will learn that bedtime is more fun when you get to do it with a bunny friend!

The story is so so, but the big disappointment is that it's very difficult to get my hand into the puppet. It is a bunny head filled with stuffing with no place for your fingers. you have to really force your fingers into it and it's very hard to puppet it since there is no place to put your fingers. I hate reading this to my daughter because the big stuffed bunny head keeps falling off my fingers and I can't operate the arms while trying to keep my fingers in the head.

I believe it's published in the UK and for a while I couldn't find it at a reasonable price. It's super cute. My son received it as a gift and I have given it to several other new moms since that time. The story is so-so but the bunny is SO much fun! My son loved this book from 6 months to 2.5 years of age and now we've handed it down to the new baby. the book and pupet are very sturdy!

My 2 year old son loves it so much he wants "bunny" to go everywhere and do everything with him. I want a second one so I can cut out the bunny and sew it to a sock - my hand is sore carrying the book around the house, pushing him on his tractor, feeding him his dinner etc... Simply adorable a must buy.

Hundreds of pages with half drawn pirate ships, mummies, caves, aliens, astronauts etc ... Your kid has to use their imagination to drawn the other half. My two 6 year old boys spent 3-4 hrs the first day it got delivered! Goodbye video games!!!

Lots of fun set in a whimsical version of the classic Trilogy universe. More creative and imagination focusing than an ordinary coloring book there are 128 pages of themes to add images to and color like: Dressing up the Driods, Giving Han Solo and Lando a disquise, add cool wings to Vader's tie fighter, give Cheey a Medal at the Battle of Yavin, decorate Lando's cape, give Luke a "new" hand, decorate a Stormtrooper's helmet, show what's under Vader's helmet, show what's REALLY in Yoda's stew, give Luke cool sideburns! What does Vader find in Obi-WANs pockets after thr Death Star dual (gah!) fill the opening ship battle scene with stars, draw what Tarkin REALLY has on his leash.., and much more awesomeness! I got one of these for myself but my Godchildren are totally getting copies for Xmas! May the Force be with us ALL.

There are over 100 pages so it will eat up a lot of time and the prompts suggest how the child should finish off the incomplete line drawings. If your child loves the Star Wars stories this will be a hit. Grandparents - you'll want this book in your bag of tricks for those days when your grandkids visit and are bored. Provide this book, some colored pencils or crayons and they'll remain busy all afternoon! Traveling for the holidays? This is ideal for that downtime in the airport or on the plane.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Poignant and Gripping By Deborah J. Andreasen Otec was never meant to lead. He's awkward and shy - a throw away soon. He's content to live his summers chasing lambs through the mountains, and hunkering down in the winters with his family, transforming wood into beautiful carved animals. No one sees the details and beauty in the world like he does. No one, except for Matka. The brave and haunted woman the traveling highmen have brought to their borders. Their first encounter trips a series of horrific events that change everything Ortec is and knows. Though the darkness, he'll have to find a light. Can he find it in Matka? This was a gripping tale, full of love and loyalty, bravery and death. There were parts I cried. Though this is technically the first in the series, the books were written out of order. Matka's terror of the fairies makes total sense to me, but it may not make sense to those who haven't read other books in the Fairy Queen series. And if you haven't read them yet, GO READ THEM NOW!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. LOVED this novella, can't wait for more in this series! By Ashley Ferguson *I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*I'm a huge fan of Amber's Fairy Queen series - it's dark and gritty, but also full of beautiful world-building, memorable (and sometimes terrifying) characters, and even a few glimpses of hope and light through the horrors of war. I also really love novellas that reveal the background of more minor characters, so I knew I had to read this story as soon as I heard the Amber was writing it.In this novella, we're given a little bit more insight into Ilyenna's parents before the start of Winter Queen. We get to see how they meet, and how they deal with all kinds of awful circumstances that are out of their control. Otec is a middle child - he's not old enough to go with his brothers and father to meet the coming army, and he definitely will never be clanchief. Except destiny has a different plan for him, and his entire world is flipped upside down when the Shyle is attacked. But even in the midst of trying to save his family and his people, Otec manages to find love. The romance is definitely a big part of the story, but Amber still somehow manages to weave an exciting story that has so many different facets that the romance doesn't overwhelm the rest of the plot. Matka is dangerous and cunning all on her own, and guards her heart just as much, if not more, as Otec guards his. I loved watching their friendship develop and transform into something more, through perceived betrayals, interfering fairies, and the loss of loved ones.If you haven't read the rest of the Fairy Queen series, this story will still stand on its own. You don't need to know much else before diving right into this book, and it might be a good place to start. If you have read the Fairy Queen books though, you definitely want to read this novella! There are so many references and connections to things in both Winter Queen and Summer Queen, and it was a lot of fun to be able to recognize those. It makes the entire series stronger and gives the world and the characters so much more depth. If you love fantasy, especially books like the Graceling series, you definitely want to read these books! 5/5.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Captivating and action packed prequel novella By Frida Of Ice and Snow is the prequel novella to Winter Queen, the first book in the Fairy Queens series, and it tells the story of Ilyenna's parents, Otec and Matka. I haven't actually read Winter Queen yet, but that did not stop me from loving Of Ice and Snow. In other words - you can read the prequel without having read any of the other books in the series. But if you've already read them all, the novella will be a nice little extra and will give more depth to the background story of the series.Of Ice and Snow starts off a bit slow, and it did take me a bit to get a feel for the story and the main characters, but a few chapters in, I was hooked. The pace picked up and from that point there was nonstop action until the very end, in typical Amber Argyle style. She's amazingly good at writing captivating and unputdownable books.Though action packed, Of Ice and Snow also has a lot of depth and it will give you a roller coaster ride of emotions. The story of Otec and Matka is truly beautiful, but also heartbreaking. I was crying my eyes out during some parts and just as with Of Fire and Ash and Summer Queen it both broke my heart in a million pieces and made me all warm and fuzzy inside. That's what Argyle does best. She makes you ridiculously happy, and then she crushes your soul. But don't you just love when a book gives you all the feels? I do, for sure. The story differs from the others as it's told from the male protagonist, Otec's, PoV. It was refreshing since I personally don't read that many books written from a man's PoV. Not because I don't want to, simply becasue most YA books I get my hands on are written from a female PoV. It's always nice with a mixture though and I think Argyle handled the new perspective well. I think Otec had an authentic voice and I liked reading from his PoV. I also think you get an in depth view of the female protagonist, Matka's, life as well even though you never get to read from her perspective. It's all very skillfully done. What I loved the most with this novella, and probably mostly because I haven't gotten around to reading Winter Queen yet, was that you got a whole new perspective of the conflict in the series. In Of Fire and Ash and Summer Queen, you get the story from the people of Idara’s perspective, and consequently you take their side. What they've been through is awful and you want nothing else than for them to get out of the conflict alive and well. I wouldn't say I hated the Clansmen, but I sure did not think they were very nice people; invading land and murdering people like they were rulers of the world or something. In Of Ice and Snow on the other hand you get the Clansmen’s side of the story and suddenly the roles are reversed. The Idarans are the ones murdering and taking land that isn't theirs. And the Clansmen seem like the nicest people in the world. How I love when you get to see both sides of a conflict and read from the perspective of all the players. Why? Because it really shows how incredibly stupid war is. And always will be. Now my heart breaks for both the Idarans and the Clansmen and I hope the third and final book will make things better for both of them. And that it will be the ending of them fighting each other.I did not fall as much in love with Of Ice and Snow as I did with the other prequel novella in the series, Of Fire and Ash, but I still think it’s a great novella. It has so many layers and for only being a novella it has a lot of depth and just as much story as a full length book. It’s fast paced, action packed and thoroughly enjoyable. It will have you on the edge of your seat and take you on an emotional roller coaster. I highly recommend it, regardless of if you’ve read Amber Argyle’s other books or not. I’m positive this one will leave you wanting more either way.

Gods and Fighting Men - The Story of the Tuatha De Danaan and of the Fianna of Ireland is a collection of tales collated by Lady Augusta Gregory. The book is split into two sections, covering the Irish Mythological Cycle of the Book of Invasions with the coming of the Tuatha De Danaan, whilst the second section details the later hero tales of Finn MacCumhail, the Fenian Cycle. First published in 1904, Lady Gregory drew upon a number of published and oral sources to create her version, including Eugene O’Curry’s Manners and Customs of the Ancient Irish, the Annals of the Four Masters and the Book of Leinster.

Gods And Fighting Men, by I. A. Gregory

About the Author Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory (15 March 1852 – 22 May 1932), born Isabella Augusta Persse, was an Irish dramatist, folklorist and theatre manager. With William Butler Yeats and Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology. Born into a class that identified closely with British rule, her conversion to cultural nationalism, as evidenced by her writings, was emblematic of many of the political struggles to occur in Ireland during her lifetime.

49 of 50 people found the following review helpful. This is THE actual Book of Irish Mythology By Amazon Customer Gods and Fighting Men is an excellent resource because it preserves the lore from the Book of Invasions as well as other sources -- the legends of the earliest inhabitants of Ireland, the coming of the Tuatha De Danaan (The People of Dana) and the stories of Finn MacCumhail. What is portrayed as "Early Irish Mythology" 99% of the time actually isn't -- the dozens of translations of The Tain, albeit worthy reading, are actually the lore of Ulster, a single Irish province. This makes it Ulster Mythology (regional) more than Irish Mythology (national). The legends of the Tuatha De Danaan are essential for a comprehensive understanding of Irish mythology, actually comprising the majority of the Mythological Cycle, and deal with the initial settling of all of Ireland. Unfortunately, it seems to be modern New Age reconstructions of the Mythological Cycle rather than the native stories that seem to be infusing themselves into the mainstream, and that is sad. In my mind, the Mythological Cycle is the most important cycle in Irish mythology, because it sets up the scenario for all that is to follow. The Fenian Cycle (legends of Finn MacCumhail and his warband) are fascinating not only for their strong associations with Nature, but also for the fact that the stories are well-known both in Ireland and in the Scottish Highlands. The Gods still walked and resided on (or in) the Earth and interacted often with mortals. Magic was all around. The Tain, on the other hand, is more a time of towns and forts and war-chariots; a time when magic was less present and people were less intertwined with Nature than in the Golden Age. The Gods had already departed our realm and only made brief cameos in the stories. In summary, Gods and Fighting Men is the actual collection of Irish Mythology from the earliest legends. It affects all of Ireland and the stories are fairly widespread throughout the Gaelic world. Lady Gregory wrote these translations with a view to retain the native Irish sense of story-telling; this she achieved remarkably well. My one concern is that it would have been nice for Lady Gregory to have cited her sources for each story. I know that in many cases she blended versions from several sources to produce what she saw as the purest form of the story, but a simple listing of these would have been fantastic from an academic standpoint. Overall this is probably the greatest collection of Irish Mythology I have found so far, albeit Lady Gregory's focus was primarily as storyteller rather than academic (this is not a bad thing -- dry, stale translations of Irish lore would have been extremely anti-Irish in themselves). This should probably be the FIRST book one reads of Irish Mythology. I highly recommend this book and the fact that it is value-priced definitely doesn't hurt, either. This book is definitely worth several times its cost. Happy Reading!

Irish Myths brought to Life By willwood@sympatico.ca The works of Lady Gregory are the best way to get a pure taste of the original Irish Myths - unless you are fluent in Gaelic and can get a hold of older copies. Lady Gregory's elequent speech and style breathes life into Ireland's forgotten Heroes and Gods!

17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. A good read, but remember the stylistic differences..... By David Stabler Lady Gregory faithfully renders old Irish stories into a form that we clods that only speak English can understand. She does not, however, make them more prosaic, or fix them into what we normally find as our story format! They are true to the original structures of the genre, and are much more lively and fun for that. My wife places them firmly in the nature of Irish legend, which she calls "We went over there and stole their cow!" (Tain Bo Cuailnge is basically a story of a cow theft, and is one of the most famous stories of Irish legend). I love the split style, and it does give the reader a good understanding of the way stories were related in the old days. A must for those who want to know where some of the ancient Irish names derive!

“Just the thing for readers with a burgeoning interest in poetry—or angling.”—Publishers Weekly Nine-year-old Sam loves fishing with his dad. So when his pesky little sister, Lucy, horns in on their fishing trip, he’s none too pleased. All ends well in this winsome book of poems—each labeled with its proper poetic form. Together the poems build a dawn-to-dusk story of a father-son bond, of sibling harmony lost and found—and, most of all, of delicious anticipation. Gone Fishing: A novel in verse, by Tamera Will Wissinger

From Booklist Sam can’t wait to go fishing with his father, until his little sister, Lucy, worms her way into their trip. Told in engaging verse that’s just the right depth and length for chapter-book readers, Wissinger’s novel artfully captures both the thrill of the catch and the aggravation of younger siblings (especially when they’re catching more fish). Loosely drawn black-and-white sketches highlight Sam’s moods, including his eventual excitement as he finally manages to reel in the big one. Wissinger identifies each poem format, from haiku, ode, and double dactyl to blues poem, counting poem, and list poem, and even includes poems told in multiple voices. The author extends the fishing metaphor with an appended “Poet’s Tackle Box,” which explains how rhyme and rhythm work as well as such poetry “bait” as alliteration, hyperbole, and onomatopoeia. She also describes each poem format used and provides a bibliography of additional poetry resources. A solid, entertaining story to hook children on poetry. Grades 1-4. --Angela Leeper

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. cool way to teach poetry, though rather gendered in its approach By Hedera Femme The start of the book was rough because, as a woman, I remember fishing with family as a child, and the story began with the protagonist complaining about his sister messing with his fishing stuff. The way she was described was as a very stereotypical girly girl that should not be included in an exclusively father-son activity. I REALLY didn't care for that, and find this highly gendered approach conter-productive, especially when you consider the age that this book targets. It's not ok to show kids that some activities are for boys only and some are for girls only. What if a girl wants to go fishing?*SPOILER ALERT*Well, happily, SHE DOES! The book gets better about a third through when she asks to join the boys on their fishing outing, and while her brother criticizes her and makes fun of her, she ends up catching more fish. After feeling inadequate and sad, he eventually catches a catfish, and they both end up being quite impressed with one another. The lessons is pretty great, countering everything I was concerned about in the beginning of the book. So I ended up really liking this book's storyline. As for the content, it has an added educational value that is done cleverly: the book teaches different poetic forms by example, and the writing is simple enough to be accessible to very young children, though the poems do generally lack any substance. (That last part is one of the main reasons I took a star away. Children's literature should have substance, too! This was a bit superficial for the most part.)The back even contains definitions of poetic styles and techniques. There was an interesting blend of conventional poetic styles we all eventually learn, and some that left me wondering, "is that really a thing??"Below is a list of most of the better-known styles demonstrated in the book:*Couplets, tercets, quatrains, cinquains, sestets*Rondelet*Ballad*Free Verse, Narrative Poems (several of each)*Concrete Poem (the one where the words make a visual picture of something related to the content, in this case, a fish shape)*Blues Poem*Double Dactyl*Lyric Poem*Triolet*Ode*Acrostic Poem*Haiku*LimerickHere are some of the obscure "is this a thing?" poems:*Switcheroo Poem*Curse Poem*List Poems*How-To Poem*Complaint Poem*Poems of Address*Menu PoemOverall, this book is pretty cool, and it helps get an early start on understanding the mechanics of literature and poetic styles. Great read-aloud, cute illustrations (wish they were in color!). Cute!

By I Do The Speed Limit I am deeply and devastatingly scarred for life: My father maintained that fishing trips were a father and son affair. I'm a female, so I didn't qualify... Unfortunately, on family vacations, I did get to put a pole in the water every so often, so I knew something of what I was missing on those father-son excursions. (Dad also enlisted my help in hunting worms for their fishing trips...How fair is that, I ask?!) I also got to hear all the fishing stories when they returned from their trips, all happy and smiling. So, when I saw this children's book, of course I was very curious to see how Dad handled the situation in this story. A few lines quoted from one of the poems had me alarmed: "...Not Mom, not Grandpa, not Lucy....Just Dad and me, fishing."I am very happy to say that--from the point of view of a female that got left behind way too many times--the Dad in this story handled the situation quite nicely. Sister asked nicely to go; sister got to go. Of course there were some ups and downs, as there always will be with sibling rivalry, but I don't want to ruin your fun by explaining how the story goes. The story is grand! The author made the story come to life. Her words were simple and easy, but full of description. If you fished when you were young, this book will bring back many memories. I chuckled my way through the pages.A nice twist is that the story is told through poems--many different kinds of poems. And the type of poem is identified at the beginning of each one. Plus there is a little "glossary" at the end of the book. The illustrations are creative and lively, too.One observation: The fishing described is fresh-water lake fishing. If you fish the coastal waters or wade or bank fish, you will probably have some explaining to do. But the message remains the same: Family fishing is fun, and you shouldn't want to exclude your sister or younger brother. All in all, I give this book a major thumbs up!

Wissinger's novel-in-verse with diverse poetry forms, is similar to none By Didaskalex ****1/2"Gone Fishing is a delightful book that not only will entertain young readers with a compelling storyline, but will also introduce them to various forms of poetry."--Naomi Kinsman (Spilled Ink)*Gone Fishing is a novel about Sam who loves fishing with his dad. Hip-hip, hooray! It's fishing day. Yo-ho yippee! Just Dad and me. Sam's fishing adventure was about to start, when his irritating younger sister, Lucy, intruded on their fishing trip, he's not so pleased, thinking; "May a worm crawl up your nose, leeches creep between your toes. May a seagull dive and swoop, and drop a bombshell in your soup!Using a variety of poetic forms, the debut novelist tells the story of a nine-year-old boy's day of fishing. The bond with his father, his excitement, and sibling rivalry, added to fishing hardships, have all add up to a day of sour sweet adventure any child would wonder how it may come to an end. But what makes the fishing story charming are the quatrains, ballads, rhyming lists, poetry and free verse. The talented author structured the book in an educating frame. Starting with contents, delved into the adventure in a novel way appealing to the seven years curious kids. The one or two page story chapters are appetizing. The Poet Tackle Box is a wonderful Thesaurus, a specialized vocabulary of a particular field of fishing, and introducing poetry techniques. the book epilogues in a biography to advance young readers interest in poetry writing.Matthew Cordell's drawings for this novel-in-verse multi-dimensional, with impressive black-and-white line drawings throughout. While Tamera Wissinger's novel-in-verse with diverse poetry forms, is similar to none, has a section devoted for those who love learning about, writing or teaching poetry. As surprising as it sounds, the author testified about four diverse engaging books that inspired her to write this wonderful book.
