Written by a team of acclaimed practitioners and leading academics, this book brings together in one single volume an analysis of contemporary legal issues concerning ship building, sale and finance contracts. It offers a comprehensive, expert and thoroughly practical guide on what is a very complex area of law in today's international shipping industry.

The book presents a detailed and critical analysis of standard and non-standard shipbuilding and sale contracts, including vital but often overlooked issues such as payment and refund guarantees, which have been at the forefront of recent litigation and practice. It also critically and thoroughly analyses several types of standard insurance contracts, including shipbuilder's risks and mortgagee's interests, which are not adequately dealt with elsewhere and it provides a critical and contemporary discussion on the legal and practical issues surrounding ship finance, ship mortgages and more esoteric issues such as the use of bareboat charters and financial derivatives.

This book is an indispensable guide for legal practitioners, academics and industry professionals worldwide. The book is divided into 3 parts; Legal Issues relating to Ship Building, Ship Sale Contracts and Practice, and Legal and Practical Issues relating to Ship Finance. Each has been expertly contributed to by the leading practitioners and academics in the field from top firms, chambers and institutions including; Ince & Co, Quadrant Chambers, Curtis Davis Garrard LLP, Holman Fenwick Willan LLP, Watson Farley & Williams LLP, 7 Kings Bench Walk, and Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL) of Swansea University.

You need this book By Phillip Taylor MBE BECAUSE ‘HAVING A SHIP CONSTRUCTED IS NOT LIKE ORDERING A NEW FORD FOCUS’,SHIPPING PRACTITIONERS NEED THIS BOOK.An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green ChambersOne of the recently published additions to Informa’s Maritime and Transport Law Library, this book presents the latest thinking and research in – as the title indicates – ‘Ship Building Sale and Finance’. Its five-hundred or so pages contain fifteen chapters, each a mini-thesis, so to speak, on specific topics within this subject area.To say that the co-editors plus the thirteen contributors are leading experts in this field is no doubt an understatement, as all of them hail from leading specialist chambers and law firms, as well as top academic institutions, mostly in the UK. Each chapter presents with clarity and illuminating detail the salient points the shipping practitioner needs to know, with an approach that is both plain-speaking and practical. This volume presents the work of the tenth IISTL Colloquium, this being the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law. Founded in 2,000 at the Swansea Law School, the Institute promotes the academic study and development of maritime and commercial law and organizes regular colloquia in this area. The co-editors Andrew Tettenborn and Baris Soyer are at Swansea Law School, together with some of the other contributors.Writing in the Foreword, Lord Clarke has described the book as a ‘tour de force’. Six of the chapters are on legal issues relating to shipbuilding, followed by the remaining chapters on ship sale contracts and practice. The book, says Clarke is ‘a most impressive body of work on a whole area of the law’ -- and referring further to the formidable amount of research it contains – he notes that it has ‘no less than 1,165 footnotes!’Actually, the contents of the book are grouped into three parts. The first section covers legal issues relating to shipbuilding and the application of standard form contracts to general contractual principles and other relevant topics, notably risks insurance and refund guarantees. In Part 2, the focus on ship sale contracts and practice narrows a bit, to include a chapter on ‘the battle of the sale forms, and another on the ‘as is’ provisions in ship sale and purchase contracts. The final chapter in this section, which covers the practicalities of ship sales in the current market, summarises both the practical aspects and the pitfalls that a practitioner is likely to encounter. Interestingly, the author notes here that ‘English law and London arbitration remain the preferred choice in the vast majority of ship sale and purchase deals.’The third and final section of the book deals with an intriguing range of financial issues relating to ship mortgagees and various aspects of shipping finance, including using derivatives to finance ship sales and shipbuilding. Plus, there are eight appendices and a useful index at the back and twenty pages containing tables of cases and statutes. To quote from the highly readable text, ‘having a ship constructed is not like ordering a new Ford Focus.’ It is rather, ‘a highly co-operative long-term exercise between the buyer, the yard and others involved in the transaction.’ There are literally hundreds of such insights to be found in this book, which, if you are a shipping lawyer, you will find invaluable. The publication date is cited as at February 2015.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A Small Investment to Save Yourself a Bundle By A Customer As the owner of two privately held corporations, and with a strong interest in estate planning, I found this to be the best and most comprehensive guide that I have encountered. It's much more in-depth than the many over-simplified popular guides to financial planning, and yet it's still accessible to the layman. Few people will read it cover to cover, but selective browsing reveals some excellent strategies and untangles a number of complex ideas. The writing is clear and accessible. I'll take a copy to my next meeting with my attorney. One small critique: I could have benefitted from some more graphic presentations of the information.

It is a plain language guide to the major areas of estate planning, with each section written by an expert in the field. The book also contains examples of documents that can be easily adapted for each client's particular needs. I love this book! Every estate planner should have it, and anyone with questions about basic estate planning techniques could benefit from reading it. It's pricey, but worth it.

Use Your Words, Sophie, by Rosemary Wells

From School Library Journal PreS—Two-year-old Sophie uses her own language upon the arrival of "a brand new pink nosed baby." As Mama and Daddy try to settle in with a toddler and a newborn, Sophie rebels in her own way, creating made-up words. Granny is called in to rescue the frazzled parents, and it is Granny, speaking her granddaughter's pretend language, who helps Sophie become the hero, calming her crying sister with Sophie's words. As the story progresses, her parents disagree about the baby's name. "Amber," says her father. "'We decided on Ashleigh,' said Mama." But it's Sophie who knows what the baby wants to be called, and she is named Jane. Wells's colorful artwork features an assortment of patterns and detail, giving the home a cozy, lived-in look, and the facial expressions capture the frustrations of both parents and Sophie, who can be seen grimacing and rolling her eyes. Another winner from Wells.—Gwen Collier, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY

The baby, whose name is yet to be determined, is not a welcome arrival for little Sophie.Sophie decides to start speaking in other languages when the baby comes, for example: Jellyfish language, Hyena, etc. That brought some humor into the story, which made it fun. Sophie's parents can't calm the new baby so Granny comes to visit. Sophie finally uses her words (after being prompted to do so on nearly every page) and asks to hold the baby.Sophie determines the baby's name and that the reason why the baby was crying so much was that everyone was calling her by the wrong name.I liked that there were two main plot points to the story: determining the new baby's name, and Sophie's reaction to the addition of the baby to her family. The way Wells reconciles Sophie to the new baby was perfect for this age group.I also really liked the layout of this book. The pages are all laid out exactly the same: with the illustrations taking up the majority of each page and the text at the bottom. I love not having to search along the page to find the text----it just makes reading aloud to Kaitlyn easier for me if my eyes stay at the same place in the book on every page (what can I say, I'm lazy like that!).Kaitlyn liked this book because it was about animals, and the illustrations reminded her of the Peter Rabbit series, which I think is a big compliment to Wells. She also liked the colors----Use Your Words, Sophie is definitely a book for little girls. In fact, the colors are perfect for spring and it would make a great addition to an Easter gift.We enjoyed this book and would definitely read Rosemary Wells again.4.5 stars Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Use Your Words, Sophie - Great story about the power of words By Sara In this third picture book from Rosemary Wells featuring Sophie, her parents bring home her new sister and urge her to use her words. Sophie, as usual, declines, choosing instead to speak in all manner of gibberish, from Jellyfish to Baboon to Martian. As Sophie refuses to use her words, her new little sister, who's name changes by the minute as her parents struggle to find one they like, howls like "the queen of the howler monkeys." In the end, it's Sophie, who uses her words and christens her sister Jane, who soothes the baby, simply explaining, "She wants to be called Jane." In the end, the power of words triumphs in more ways than one.

An excellent sibling gift By Janet Hamilton Summary: Sophie has a new baby sister, and she’s decided to try out some different languages to communicate with her, such as Jellyfish, Hyena, and Baboon. Each time she makes the attempt, her parents urge her, “Use your words, Sophie.” Meanwhile, Sophie’s mother and father are having trouble agreeing on what to name the baby. To add to the chaos, the baby starts crying, and no one, not even Granny, can figure out how to make her spot. Finally, Sophie uses her words. “Give her to me, please.” Then she uses them again to sing quietly to the baby. Miraculously, the baby stops crying. “Her name is Jane,” says Sophie. “So I sang to her, Jane, Jane, don’t be a pain. Now she’s happy.” And so is everyone else.Pros: Rosemary Wells has created another memorable character for preschoolers. This is Sophie the mouse’s third book, and would make an excellent sibling gift when a new baby arrives.Cons: I was sorry that Jane was the final name choice for the new baby. Just adding a “t” would have made it so much better.

It was such a sweet and charming story to share with youngsters who may also wish for sibling(s) as well! With simple drawings of this story as the story of Cheeps is told. I am giving this ebook five star rating for such a great story and as I have already described a very clean and wholesome story for the young kids to either read for themselves or for an adults to read tothem at bedtime! I received this ebook for free and in exchange I have given it an honest review. Great work Arnie! By Angela

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Recommended Book BREAD AND HONEY by FRANK ASCH Review by Mary Katherine May By BOOKHEN2 Mama Bear is just taking bread out of the oven, but it is too hot for Ben Bear to eat before going to school. At school, Ben paints a picture of his mother, but the picture gets altered while walking home when his friends add their suggestions based upon their looks. When Ben Bear arrives at home, Mama Bear likes the picture, not because it looks like her but because it was painted by her son, and then she serves him the bread freshly made that day with honey.Accelerated Reader 2.1. By LD I remember reading this to my son when he was a little boy, so of course, when he and his wife announced they were expecting their first child (and my first grandchild!), I purchased this book. It tells the story of how the mama loves her son's artwork "just the way it is!"
