Every chess player, who begins his games with the move 1.e2-e4, should be perfectly prepared to encounter the move 1...c7-c5. Why is this opening so dangerous for White? The point is that in all the basic variations of the Sicilian Defence the fight is double-edged and often White risks at least as much as Black does. White is practically deprived of the possibility to simplify the position by numerous exchanges.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A Well Crafted Repertoire Book for White against the Sicilian Defense By M. Ararat The Sicilian defense is the most popular response to 1.e4 for several reasons. First, the pawn structure is unbalanced from the beginning of the game. After 3.d4 cxd4 black gets a central pawn majority duo versus a white pawn on e4. Second, in the open Sicilian white has to take risk to win the game and every move in the opening and middle game are critical. In other words, White has to learn a lot of theory to avoid losing a miniature. Third, the sharp Sicilian middle games from the open Sicilian are a paradox. White may claim a theoretical edge after burning the midnight oil studying theory, but white can no claim that the game is fully under his control. If White lacks a full grip on the actions that means that Black can generate play on his own and create winning chances. Many white players avoid the problems posed by the Sicilian defense by switching to 1.d4. A second group of players sticks with the open Sicilian and use a tactical, sharp approach against the combative Sicilian defense. A third group of players decide to meet the Sicilian half way, with a positional and active repertoire. If you prefer the third approach against the Sicilian defense, please keep reading on.Alexei Kornev is the author of the book, Rossolimo and Friends. This book is a repertoire book for White against the Sicilian defense and the recommendations have a solid positional foundation. The author databases and his own analysis to illustrate his recommendations. The books is composed with hundreds of game fragments of games in contrast to the complete game format favored by Gawain Jones in his repertoire book versus the Sicilian (2011). The format selected by Kornev to write this book provides the reader with the right mix of old and recent games, more content than the complete game format and more references to continue his own studies. Every chapter ends with a summary. I recommend the reader to read the summary first to get a better idea of what the chapter is about and what are the better lines for White or the lines that are really bad for black. I found Kornev’s explanations clear, concise and to the point, but the reader will need a good positional background to get the best of the book.Rossolimo and Friends is an advance book suitable for players looking to improve his/her chances against the Sicilian using a solid, positional method.DisclaimerThis a fragment of the original review. The publisher provided a review copy.My chess skill level is around 1850 USCF and I hold a FIDE National Instructor certification.

Testifying at a trial can be a painful and costly experience if you aren’t well prepared! Use these 101 easy tips as a jump-start to successfully prepare for your turn on the stand. The tips are the result of Dr. Noelle Nelson’s working as a trial consultant with lawyers and their witnesses for over 25 years. You can see more about her work in the “client results” section (trial consulting tab) of her website:www.noellenelson.com. Here’s what some lawyers have said about Dr. Nelson’s witness preparation techniques: "Noelle Nelson is an excellent jury consultant. We used her in a … case to work with some particularly troublesome defense witnesses. She did a fine job coaching these witnesses on how to make a gentler, kinder, less defensive presentation in their testimony to the jury. She is easy to work with and quickly gains the cooperation and respect of even the most cantankerous witness. It is clear that she has mastered the techniques of teaching people how to make verbal and non-verbal responses which maximize their impact on the listener." - John B. Golper, Attorney; Ballard, Rosenberg & Golper "If your case is burdened with the witness from Hell, don't despair, try the magic of Dr. Noelle Nelson's advice. I have seen her witness preparation skills turn a frog into a prince." - Howard A. Jaffe, Vice Chairman, COO & General Counsel, The InterGroup Corporation “As a trial lawyer in my 37th year of busy practice in Los Angeles and San Francisco, I can illustrate Dr. Nelson's results for me-- 1972-1992: 26 trials, half were losses, I never even knew what I was doing wrong; 1993-2008: 68 trials, zero losses, Dr. Nelson taught me what the Bar programs did not-- how to use my witnesses effectively and how to maximize my presentation and boost my clients' effect on juries. . .Our clients/witnesses win our trials for us! . . .Seeing is believing-- our results are the proof of Dr. Nelson's excellent guidance.” - Robert Pave, Attorney; Pave & Bogaards

My Pen, by Christopher Myers

From School Library Journal K-Gr 3—Aurelio is a young artist with big eyes, a fedora, and, most importantly, a vivid imagination. In ink renderings on pages that maintain interest by alternating between black on white and the perception of the reverse, the boy contrasts the sense of being small—evoked when he sees rich and famous people—with the power he wields with his pen. The "Dali" headline on the book jacket's folded newspaper boat foreshadows playful bits of surrealism, e.g., an elephant in a teacup, a man who looms large on the left page in the hand of a small girl on the right. This tender composition has a familial, personal feeling. The versatile drawing instrument worries about war, expresses love, and "wears satellite sneakers with computer laces." Myers intersperses literal depictions of the pen at work (creating the child's face) with images that are described in more fanciful terms. Where the artist is walking upside down (no pen in sight), the text reads: "My pen tap-dances on the sky and draws clouds with its feet." The first-person possessive voice wears a little thin, and the connection among the pages is loose. Nevertheless, Myers has assembled a visually arresting array of sketches that will likely attract the interest of children who enjoy drawing themselves. Indeed, the last sentence is an invitation to "Let those worlds inside your pen out!" VERDICT The striking images and important message outweigh any narrative issues.—Wendy Lukehart, District of Columbia Public Library

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. An invitation to creativity By Janet Hamilton Summary: “All you need is your imagination,” declares the cover of the book. Christopher Myers then goes on to explain all that his pen can do. It can ride dinosaurs, put an elephant in a teacup, and tell stories in the margins of the pages. Sometimes it makes mistakes, but it can draw a new face every morning. “There are a million pens in the world and each one has a million worlds inside it,” concludes Myers. “Let those worlds inside your pen out!”Pros: A fabulous celebration of creativity and imagination. The illustrations may be Caldecott-worthy. Kids will be inspired to get out their pens and see what they can do.Cons: If you’re expecting a story with this book, you’ll be disappointed. It’s more of a creative jumpstart.

"This is not a book. This is a guest list for a party of my heroes. Thank you for inviting us."--Lemony Snicket, author of A Series of Unfortunate Events books"I feel honored to be included in this book. Women need to take radical steps to become feminists, and to be strong to fight for their rights and those of others facing oppression and discrimination. The world needs rad women to create a just society."--Dolores Huerta, Labor Leader, Civil Rights Activist"It's almost always with a chuckle that I view a cartoon image of myself. But to see cartoon-me positioned (alphabetically) amongst so many of my women heroes and role models . . . well, I just broke down and cried. Happy tears. I surely hope that this one-of-a-kind collection of radical American women reaches the hands of all children who want to grow up and become amazing women."--Kate Bornstein, author of My New Gender Workbook"Any alphabet book for children where 'P is for Patti' Smith and 'X is for the women whose names we don't know' is something I can recommend, especially when the book is as well written, representationally diverse and vividly illustrated as this one."--Francesca Lia Block, author of Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books"I was totally in rapture reading this book. Bold women, bold colors, and fierce black paper cutouts. I cheer these histories of women who fight not for war or country or corporation, but for EVERYONE! I can't wait for my son to read this."--Nikki McClure, Illustrator of All in a Day"I need 2 of these books, one to read to all the kids in my life and one to rip the illustrations out of so I can frame them! This MUST HAVE super fun read fills in the missing pieces in so many kids' (and grown-ups') educations. Couldn't recommend it enough."--Kathleen Hanna, singer, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre and The Julie Ruinie RuiLike all A-Z books, this one illustrates the alphabet—but instead of "A is for Apple", A is for Angela—as in Angela Davis, the iconic political activist. B is for Billie Jean King, who shattered the glass ceiling of sports; C is for Carol Burnett, who defied assumptions about women in comedy; D is for Dolores Huerta, who organized farmworkers; and E is for Ella Baker, who mentored Dr. Martin Luther King and helped shape the Civil Rights Movement. And the list of great women continues, spanning several centuries, multiple professions, and 26 diverse individuals. There are artists and abolitionists, scientists and suffragettes, rock stars and rabble-rousers, and agents of change of all kinds. The book includes an introduction that discusses what it means to be "rad" and "radical," an afterword with 26 suggestions for how you can be "rad," and a Resource Guide with ideas for further learning and reading.American history was made by countless rad—and often radical—women. By offering a fresh and diverse array of female role models, we can remind readers that there are many places to find inspiration, and that being smart and strong and brave is rad.Rad American Women will be appreciated by various age groups. It is Common Core aligned for students grades 3 - 8. Pre-school and young children will be captured by the bright visuals and easily modified texts, while the subject matter will stimulate and inspire high-schoolers and beyond.

Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers, and Visionaries who Shaped Our History . . . and Our Future! (City Lights/Sister Spit), by Kate Schatz

From School Library Journal Gr 5 Up—Colorful and hip potraitures create a visual sensation that immediately draws in readers. Profiled are 26 American women from the 18th through 21st centuries, who have made—or are still making—history as artists, writers, teachers, lawyers, or athletes. The women come from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds and many had to overcome extreme hardships. One woman represents each alphabetical letter beginning with Angela Davis, an activist, teacher, and writer, and concludes with Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist and writer. Readers will also encounter Carol Burnett, the Grimke Sisters, Lucy Parsons, Rachel Carson, and Sonia Sotomayor, among others. Interestingly, the letter X is designated for the women, "we haven't learned about yet, and the women whose stories we will never read." The book's conclusion challenges readers to be strong and to make a difference in their own communities and suggests 26 things that students can do to be rad. VERDICT Classes across the curriculum can utilize this informative book.—Patricia Ann Owens, formerly with Illinois Eastern Community Colls., Mt. Carmel

Review "This is the only alphabet where A stands for Angela Davis and Z stands for Zora Neale Hurston--and you haven't learned it, yet. Writer Kate Schatz and artist Miriam Klein Stahl have radical ambitions to amplify your vocabulary of women's history" -Yahoo Beauty "Rousing tributes to 26 women who didn't keep their heads or voices down." -Kirkus Review"Colorful and hip portraitures create a visual sensation...Classes across the curriculum can utilize this informative book." -School Library Journal

"The History of Feminism--in an Awesome Picture Book. The ABCs just got a major girl-power upgrade."--Chantal Strasburger, Teen Vogue

"We see so many books (children's or otherwise) pass through the offices of Parents every day; most of them are shiny, vibrant, playful, educational, silly--and just plain fun. But when another editor friend of mine passed along the information for a new release, Rad American Women A-Z, I knew that it was something special."--Brooke Bunce, Parent's Magazine

"Rad American Women A-Z Is The Empowering Book Both Girls And Boys Need."--Caroline Bolgona, Huffington Post Parents

"The very first kids' book released by the iconic publishing house City Lights, Rad American Women A-Z navigates the alphabet from Angela Davis to Zora Neale Hurston with colorful illustrations and short, powerful narratives. The perfect gift for the junior riot grrl in your life."--Bust Magazine

"This is The Most Inspiring Children’s Book We've Ever Seen."--Refinery29.com

"This is the only alphabet where A stands for Angela Davis and Z stands for Zora Neale Hurston--and you haven't learned it, yet. Writer Kate Schatz and artist Miriam Klein Stahl have radical ambitions to amplify your vocabulary of women’s history with their new children's picture book, Rad American Women A-Z. . . . Schatz and Stahl are hoping to teach young boys and girls--and their mothers, fathers, caregivers, siblings, and teachers--about strong women who have made waves and inspired change. The thoughtfully compiled group of women spans the spectrum in terms of ethnicity, industry of work, age, and era--but all were essential contributors to American history."--Noel Yuan, Yahoo News

"March is Women’s History Month. Just in time is this alphabetical pantheon of American women. The qualifier in the title is 'rad,' short for 'radical' and defined at the outset as a person who wants big changes or something very different, or as slang for 'cool.' From Angela Davis to Zora Neal Hurston, 26 women get their due with a mini bio and a hip portrait. Emphasis is on obstacles and accomplishments, the women’s missteps not included. Alphabet books impose an artificial constraint, in this case one letter, one woman. How to choose? Maya Lin over Margaret Sanger (M). Sonia Sotomayor over Susan B. Anthony (S). Tough calls. As locals, the publisher, author and illustrator share a Left Coast appreciation for their heroines--rebels, trailblazers and visionaries who might inspire kids to action in their own communities."--Susan Faust, San Francisco Chronicle

"Rad American Women A To Z, by Kate Schatz and wonderfully illustrated by Miriam Klein Stahl, is a fantastic book for any child, but especially for girls. I think it's so important that young girls realize all the amazing things women have accomplished throughout history, because, sadly, I don't think they hear enough about it in school, even today. I am happy to say I have heard about most of the women in this book, but there were several that I did not know about and I am so impressed with their strength and courage in the face of great odds. We have to let the young people of today know that anything and everything is possible, and this book is a simple, yet inspiring way to let them know that women have been getting it done forever!"--Mary Engelbreit, renowned artist and children's book illustrator

"Rousing tributes to 26 women who didn't keep their heads or voices down. Reserving 'X' for 'the women whose names we don't know,' Schatz presents an unusually diverse gallery of activists. Along with the predictable likes of the Grimke sisters, Billie Jean King and Zora Neale Hurston, it includes Patti Smith, blacklisted musical prodigy Hazel Scott, Mexican-American journalist Jovita Idar and transgender performance artist Kate Bornstein. Furthermore, the author extends her definition of ‘radical' beyond the arenas of politics and social causes to include Florence Griffith-Joyner ('Who showed us how to run like a girl'), Rachel Carson, Temple Grandin and Dr. Virginia Apgar (developer of the Apgar Score for newborns). . . . A 'rad' alternative to less-inclusive albums, such as Cynthia Chin-Lee, Megan Halsey and Sean Addy's Amelia to Zora (2005)."--Kirkus Reviews

"This lively abecedary introduces 25 inspiring women and their accomplishments, from environmentalist Rachel Carson ('R is for Rachel') and rocker Patti Smith to lesser-known history-makers like Wilma Mankiller, who became the first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation, and transgender author/artist Kate Bornstein. Schatz opens with a discussion of different meanings of rad/radical ('A radical can be a person who wants to make big changes in society'), and the snappy mini-biographies that follow hit the highlights of the women’s lives and legacies in an accessible, conversational tone. Bright hues provide backdrops for Stahl’s angular cut-paper portraits, which emphasize the subjects’ power, humor, and strength. The letter X 'is for the women whose names we don’t know.... For the women who aren’t in the history books, or the Halls of Fame.… The women who made huge changes and the women who made dinner.' This inspiring and diverse tribute to artists, journalists, sports phenoms, judges, and more culminates with an energizing A–Z list of '26 Things That You Can Do to Be Rad!' and a reading list to encourage further exploration."--Publishers Weekly

"Colorful and hip portraitures create a visual sensation that immediately draws in readers. "Ever wanted a women-centric history book to hand to a kid? This March, publisher City Lights/Sister Spit is releasing an exciting new book that tells the stories of 26 important American women, one for each letter of the alphabet. Rad American Women features biographies of women from Angela Davis to Zora Neale Huston. Author Kate Schatz and illustrator Miriam Klein Stahl highlight a great selection of women--the group is diverse in terms of race, era, and in their field of work, ranging from scientists to writers and activists."--Sarah Mirk, Bitch Magazine

"Angela Davis. Billie Jean King. Carol Burnett. The first three women in this fantastic ABC book set the tone for what’s to come: visionary, bold, diverse role models for an array of children today. Each page, with a modern illustration, a brief biography, and an uplifting overview of her accomplishments, will inspire young world-changers both in social studies classrooms and at home. Ages eight and up."--Foreword Reviews

"Moms and dads everywhere, take note. Indoctrinating your wee ones into your feminist girl gang just got a little easier. This illustrated book teaches kids (and adults) the A, B, Cs of American feminist history with vivid illustrations by Miriam Klein Stahl. A is for Angela Davis, B is for Billie Jean King, C is for Carol Burnett, and so on & so on, be still my beating heart."--Marisa Crawford, Weird Sister

"There might be something more exciting than an illustrated alphabet of American heroines both famous and unsung, but I’m not sure what that thing would be. Created with children (and their parents, teachers, and interested adults) in mind, this book features one important woman for each letter of the alphabet in a one-page biography. It's a marvelous, simple idea executed beautifully."--Rebecca Joines Schinsky, Book Riot

"Accompanied by brightly colored illustrations, this would be a fantastic book to use in the classroom for Women's History Month. Since the entries are short, teachers could read one a day. What a great book for #WeNeedDiverseBooks." --Karen Yingling, Goodreads Librarian with over 2000 reviews

"From Angela Davis to Zora Neale Hurston, the stories are enlightening, surprising, and moving, and the voice that tells them is sharp. . . . It's a history and a how-to that reminds us how much our foremothers did for us and how much still needs be done."--Zoe Balaconis, misadventuresmag.com

"For the future of our budding feminists, read this book to your kids. Read it yourself, even. It's a scant quarter inch thick, with a page for each letter of the alphabet, and beautiful woodblock prints of each rad woman."--Julia Park Tracey, Sweatpants & Coffee.com

"Like Howl, Rad American Women could find itself banned or playing major role in shifting American cultural education. Either way, it stands as an important reminder of the power of language and the importance of fighting for your beliefs, no matter the odds."--Daniel Villarreal, Unicorn Booty

"Why just learn your ABCs when you can be empowered by them? A new illustrated children’s book from iconic City Lights press, Rad American Women A-Z, offers kids the chance to educate themselves on women’s history and the alphabet at the same time."--Laura Feinstein, Good Magazine

"Rad American Women A-Z is a truly inclusive alphabet book for all readers, and even comes with suggested activities, '26 things that you can do to be rad,' a resource guide, books about rad women, further reading, and a list of websites and organizations. Great for home use, this book is also perfect for libraries and classrooms to incorporate into diverse curriculums. Recommended: Highly, ages 5+."--Yu-Han Chao, Mixed Diversity Reads

"This book is perfect for any parent seeking out herstory to add to all the history we are taught. I even learned some tactics for calling out sexism in public spaces."—Rhea St Julien, Hip Mama

"The introduction to this abecedary asks what it means to be rad, and then explores the many ways women have been radical throughout history: from the Latin meaning 'from the root' to being something out of the ordinary. The book features a multicultural cast of women from Angela Davis to Dolores Huerta to Maya Lin and Wilma Mankiller in careers as varied as comedy, athletics, dance, aviation, ecology, and law. The 26 one-page biographies are well written, readable introductions to these women and how they made an impact on the world. The book ends with an alphabet of 26 things readers can do to be rad, and a resource guide lists books, websites, and organizations of interest to readers who want more information or who want to start making a difference now."--Linda Parsons, Literacy Daily

"Rad American Women A-Z and 14 Other Picture Books Adults Will Love Maybe Even More Than Children:" "Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers, and Visionaries Who Shaped Our History . . . and Our Future! is your typical alphabet-learning picture book, but this time, every letter of the alphabet stands for an American woman that has shaped our history and culture. We’re talking people varied from Patti Smith to Zora Neale Hurston to the Grimke Sisters. Basically, it is one badass picture book. And let’s just be upfront: I want this book, badly, and I am in no way, shape, or form, a child."--Caitlin White, Bustle

"The artwork in this book is very expressive, making the book pop out and causing me to read the book more than I would have without the artwork. The fact that the book an A-Z book was a smart choice because usually A-Z books are like "A for Apple" "B for Banana". We all know fruits, but we don’t know about super rad women who shaped our world."--Nadia, San Francisco, CA age 12

"I really think that this book should be included in schools, it helps you learn about rad American women and it is important because if you do not know about these women you may never change the world like they did."--Mila, San Francisco, CA, age 9

What I love are the questions she's been asking me about the women profiled (how did she do that? Why have I never heard her name before? Isn't this one cool!?!). She's eating up all these stories about powerful women and I hope she internalizes the possibilities they hold up for her. Plus, the layout of this book is just adorable. Makes you want to keep turning the page. Love it.

A Book and a Hug: Rad American Women By Molly (Conan the Librarian) The United States of America may have been founded by a bunch of men, but why should the guys get all the credit? American history is filled with stories about amazing women who took stands and rewrote their own destinies. Now these ladies are rewriting the alphabet, from Angela Davis to Zora Neale Hurston.Rad American Women A-Z celebrates 26 real American women, including punk rocker Patti Smith, the abolitionist Grimke Sisters, athlete Billie Jean King, activist Temple Grandin, and X (the unnamed women who have influenced and who will influence our American legacy). Each featured woman gets a full page detailing their stories and what makes them so important, and awesomely bright portraits accompany each. This book is perfect for schoolwork or for pleasure and is geared towards middle and older readers who are just starting to learn about history and activism. For those who want to learn more, the author has included a list of resources. Additionally, a Common Core curriculum has already been developed to accompany the book in the classroom. Good for reluctant readers. This review originally appeared on A Book and a Hug.

Enjoy this book for teens all the way to adults about a rambunctious rogue orpan girl named Anya-Marie, and how she uses the strength of her pain and body to protect others. In this installment Anya can't sleep and the only thing that will tire her out is a good round of parkouring across city tops. But her little run ends up more than just a midnight stroll... Enjoy this comics prose hybrid as Anya gives justice in the blackest of alleys.

In this funny, uncannily wise portrait of the dynamics of a sixth-grade class and of the greatness that sometimes comes in unlikely packages, Dwight, a loser, talks to his classmates via an origami finger puppet of Yoda. If that weren t strange enough, the puppet is uncannily wise and prescient. Origami Yoda predicts the date of a pop quiz, guesses who stole the classroom Shakespeare bust, and saves a classmate from popularity-crushing embarrassment with some well-timed advice. Dwight s classmate Tommy wonders how Yoda can be so smart when Dwight himself is so clueless. With contributions from his puzzled classmates, Tommy assembles this first case file in the blockbuster bestselling Origami Yoda series, written by Tom Angleberger, author of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side," and hailed by "School Library Journal "as honest, funny, and immensely entertaining. The Strange Case of Origami Yoda (Origami Yoda #1), by Tom Angleberger

From School Library Journal Grade 3–6—For Tommy, the only question is whether or not Origami Yoda is real. Of course he's real as a small puppet on Dwight's finger. But does the oracle possess magic power? In order to find out, he decides to compile scientific evidence from the experiences of those who asked Origami Yoda for help. His friend Harvey is invited to comment on each story because he thinks Yoda is nothing but a "green paper wad." Tommy also comments because he's supposedly trying to solve the puzzle. In actuality, the story is about boys and girls in sixth grade trying to figure out how being social works. In fact, Tommy says, "…it's about this really cool girl, Sara, and whether or not I should risk making a fool of myself for her." The situations that Yoda has a hand in are pretty authentic, and the setting is broad enough to be any school. The plot is age-old but with the twist of being presented on crumpled pages with cartoon sketches, supposed hand printing, and varying typefaces. Kids should love it.—Sheila Fiscus, Our Lady of Peace School, Erie, PA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

From Booklist Tommy and his friends think that Dwight is a weirdo who’s “always talking about robots or spiders or something.” In true Dwight fashion, he shows up at school one day brandishing a little origami Yoda finger puppet. The really weird thing is that it doles out very un-Dwight-like bits of wisdom, and the mystery is whether the Yoda is just Dwight talking in a funny voice or if it actually has mystical powers. The book is structured as a collection of stories gathered by Tommy and told by kids who either believe or don’t. See, Tommy has a more vested interest than just idle curiosity—he is dying to know if he can trust Yoda’s advice about asking the cute girl to dance with him at the PTA Fun Night. Origami Yoda—a sort of talking cootie catcher—is the kind of thing that can dominate all those free moments in school for a few weeks. Angleberger’s rendering of such a middle-grade cultural obsession is not only spot-on but also reveals a few resonant surprises hidden in the folds. Naturally, Yoda-making instructions are included. Grades 4-6. --Ian Chipman

By Flamingnet Teen Book Reviews Imagine yourself, a loser in middle school with loserfriends. At every opportunity to get the girl you like tolike you, it never happens. But that might all change. When Tommy sees the finger puppet of Yoda that thatloser Dwight has on his finger, it seems ordinary. Sameold origami, same good origami it's the same as always. But when origami Yoda starts to give people advice, goodadvice, things change. Since Dwight is such a loser, hisadvice should be bad too, right? But Yoda's advice is,well, Yoda-like. When Tommy starts to think about askinga girl to a dance, he isn't sure. So by putting togetherthe case of Origami Yoda, he must come to a conclusion: isYoda for real?I think that this book was good. I alsothink that the author expressed each characterindividually. I loved how each case file was written infirst person by different people. I was really capturedby this book. I also think that it should be a series. This book really makes you want to pick it up and neverput it down.Reviewed by a young adult student reviewerFlamingnet Book ReviewsTeen books reviewed by teen reviewers

The self-consciousness, the silliness, the high-strung emotions, the intense wanting to be grown-up, the embarrassment, the awkwardness, how hard it is to avoid taking the easy way out, and how loyalty to your friends is the right thing. This is a book about friendship and loyalty, with a great plot about "will he ask the girl to dance?" And a surprising finger puppet who knows all the answers.Great on plot and characterization -- marvelous side doodles and illustrations that go with the case file. Directions for making Origami Yoda at home. Now the bad news. Fart-face. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Crap. You're an idiot. I'm an idiot. You're a moron. You're a jerk. You're stupid. He's a loser. You're a loser. You're so stupid. I'm a loser. You weirdo. Bejeezus. My family of boys ranges in age all the way down to kindergarten. What big brother reads, little brother repeats. Do I want to sanction these words? Three stars.Update -- try "The Qwikpick Adventure Society" by Sam Riddleburger. Funny book, similar journaling style, more wholesome (although it features poop as the main part of the adventure.)Update -- The follow on book, "Darth Paper," is almost entirely free of the objectionable language in this book. Well done, Mr. Angleberger!

By Earl I had originally seen this while walking through a Barnes and Noble and remembered it later (being a Star Wars fan with an 11 year-old daughter). I purchased it for her here on Amazon and she was very excited to read it. Once she finished she insisted I read it as well. I can't tell you how glad I am to have stumbled upon this book - what a FUN read! The book has a really sharp design throughout - I love the illustrations and all the little details - not only do they capture the characters in the book but there are more than a few funny Star Wars references that fans will delight in. As for the writing and story I was captivated from the moment I picked it up. Having a 6th grader, I can truly say that the author has captured the essence of their unique personalities and place in life so well. While there is some character exaggeration that adds to the frivolity of the book, the heart of the characters all ring true and I could place many of my daughter's friends right in the shoes and voice of many of those characters. I laughed out loud several times reading the book - the humor is so warm and sweet and funny. This is a great book for anyone with a child around middle school age, or even an adult Star Wars fan looking for a really fun book to add to their collection. Both my daughter and I hope that the author revisits these characters - we can't wait for more adventures of Dwight and his Origami Yoda!
