1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A fantastic story within a story. By Derrick Northcross A totally original story along the lines of the TV show, "Grimm". The violence is described well without rubbing your nose in the results. The sex is more implied than shown. And there is a good deal of comic relief. This is also a story within a story describing how an archeologist finds and deciphers some writings of indeterminate age and what they contain. I couldn't put it down. Easy to read. Moderately weak stomachs not a problem. I recommend it. I was given a free copy of this book to review, and not paid.

Sometimes it is the flowering of inspiration that will never actually turn to fruit in later endeavors. Sometimes it is the promise of bigger and better things. Fortunately for fans of Ms. Bianculli's first Mist Gate Novel, _Prisoner's of the Keep_, this book not only measures up to the her first effort, but surpasses it.Lise has fought slavers and sorcerers, rescued friends and outwitted enemies, and become a champion of her Goddess. She is motivated, ambitious, and certain of her ability to lead. She is also fifteen, and the dichotomy between her experiences of the past weeks and her age shows up believably through out the book. When Lise's old enemy from our world crosses over it points out the differences between teenage struggles with identity and this world's struggles for survival...but also the similarities. The new human to cross is an ordinary teen who reacts about as we all realistically would to a world of violence and magic.Now Lise has hard decisions to make, and the consequences will go well beyond her own survival.Do you need to read the first book before reading this one? Short answer: No. Longer answer: Maybe. The situation is summarized well for new readers, but reading the first adds an emotional depth to this story; you will care more about the minor characters, and you will better appreciate the growth of Lise herself. If you just want well crafted battles and mysteries, dive right in: the water's fine.I look forward to the third book, and anything else the author decides to write.

Smith It’s a darn good thing that Mistgate 3 is coming out in September because Susan Bianculli has left us at a cliff hanger!The author has blended commonly accepted elements of the fantasy genre with her own interpretation, and that brings a very refreshing, new perspective to her stories. Too often readers encounter the same story retold over and over. Are there well-known elements to Ms. Bianculli’s newest book in the Mistgate series? Yes. But she challenges and changes the established assumptions for the genre in realistic reactions and modern minds.For instance: it’s well established in fantasy fiction that elves can’t handle iron and humans can. However, it’s also established that humans are susceptible to elven, even all, magic. Why should they be? What if they aren’t? Why aren’t they?Lise is a leader. She’s also a teenager. Being a leader doesn’t mean she has a general’s experience, or an adult’s supposed wisdom. You can see her growing towards that experience and wisdom in this book and you can’t help but be proud of her.I’m looking forward to September!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The adventure of Lise Baxter continues By J. Milson Bascom's Revenge is the sequel of Prisoner's of the Keep. Another reviewer said that reading the first book is not really necessary, but I disagree, as it will help you in understanding the plot line of this story. Morsca is dead. Bascom Bloodknife is determined to find her killer. Lise and her entourage have left the keep on their way back from whence they came. An injury befalls Jason, and needs special attention to attend to his wounds. He is placed in a cave, as Lise and the others search for the neceesary vegetation to help with Jason's wounds. When they return, they discover that he is no longer there. Aurus, who can fly, discover that Jason is with a group of kidnappers, and are outnumbered. They split into two groups where one group tries to find the Grey Riders, and the other discretely follow the kidnappers. In their new adventure, a rival from Lise's world, Heather Chung, accidentally trips a mist gate and is brought into the storyline. Admittedly, I questioned the seriousness of Ms. Bianculli making this choice, but Heather becomes a reluctant part of the group and fighter. It turns out that Heather's unmagical abilities do provide help when they encounter Bascom's second hideaway while the Keep is being reconstructed. They eventually meet up with the Grey Riders, and formulate plans to go after Bascom and his guards. But things don't all go as planned, as eventually Aurus and Arghen are caught, and they are also in need of rescue. The plans and fights throughout this story and the unique ways of how the rescues and fights, and the cliffhanger, turn out make the story for a gripping read! I do not think you will be disappointed!

The 'missing' Ansible Manual By Chris Baughman This is a fantastic book that will absolutely give you all of the knowledge and actually usable examples to make you an ops rock star! I keep it on my phone and computer so that when I am in the office architecting solutions, I can refer back to some of the wonderful examples of Vagrant and WordPress or Drupal provisioning, dynamic AWS inventory, and so many more that have made me feel like I could do anything with Ansible. This is the best book or even resource out there for Ansible, get it if you are even considering Ansible or are looking for some great examples of what can be done now in ops that makes this area so exciting!

I really recommend this book for anyone interested in Ansible or DevOps in general. Only reason why is not receiving full 5 stars is because the book is not updated for Kindle but the book is updated in the some other providers.

By v1k0d3n Jeff absolutely nailed Ansible with this book. He has a very down-to-earth, yet informative writing style that I can [personally] relate to. The written content is simple enough for anyone to feel pretty good about Ansible after reading through the first 4 chapters of the book. But going further, the book is also written to be a useful research tool as well, since there are real-world examples to help you get get a solid framework on how to get things done in different ways. The beauty of Ansible is that it's not ridged, and it allows you to be slightly expressive and to use it in different ways. I'm hooked on Anisble after reading this book (thank you Jeff), and I am using Ansible daily as a result.I think if an author hears one positive thing about his writing, they like to hear that they've impacted the reader in some way. I can definitely say that my experience [with this book] has positively impacted my daily workflow, and I'm suggesting it to anyone else who is looking at Ansible. This book is a must read!

The second half of the book is racing with so many turns and trickery that it is hard to sit straight through your read. Pages after pages keeps churning so much devious plans that it is hard to stop your from turning the pages fast enough.Yes the plot is good but the book do comes with its own sets of faults. The language and narration is not exactly the smoothest and hence my reference in the title that it is a bumpy ride. Though,there is rarely a dull moment in the book, somehow you cant deny that the book takes a while to be on track and once it does,the book just blows up your expectations.The author definitely seems to be well versed with the city of Las Vegas and its nuisances. The way he narrates and portrays the world of Grift that resides parallel to the glimmer of Las Vegas, leaves me confused as to whether be suspicious as to how well he knows all the trickery and modus operandi of the same or to be amazed at his research skills. The fact is that the author does truly justify the title Grift and brings forward a face of Las Vegas that you have never seen before but sometimes that is also the problem as he kinds of halts to explain the background details or history a bit too often but luckily does not do in a fatal way. (hence the bumpy ride )I love how the author has shaped his characters, each characters have their own space and is clearly distinguishable from others and are not stereotype characters but seems to be normal with their own vises and wises. Makes them more real and understandable.Yes it needs a bit more polishing . For me personally , it was the narration and language that needed a bit work, but even still i would say that for any thriller fans this would give them enough dose to keep them sated. Wait till it catches the speed. But even then in the beginning it was fun to get accustomed to the world of debauchery and Grift. I loved our main character along with her entourage.The book starts with a bumpy ride and takes its time to be on track but when it does, the thriller component of the book makes it a terrific read with its twisted characters and plot. The characters are the best highlights of the book. You cannot chose to be not impressed by each one of them. The author paints a brilliant and in depth face of Las vegas that is hidden behind all the shimmer and glimmer. Stick for a while and there is no stopping this book. As of now it lacks a bit of polishing but even then it is a good thriller

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Grift By Serenity This book kept the mystery and suspense strong and very enjoyable. I am picking with mystery style books and this one managed to keep my attention well and I didn't want to put it down.The characters were written very well. You get a good handle on who they are and enjoy each character. The outlaws and con-artist style was done well. They aren't typical, given that they are just teens, but they pull off some awesome things! They have struggles just like anyone else and they really aren't bad kids. You will love Piper! She is super amazing and you will easily love her and be on her side.Each character is also awesome and likable. But I just loved Piper the most. The overall story is well written and you will be glad that you picked it up!

(Alright By Justine If anyone talks to me about books for more than thirty or so seconds, they'll learn that I appreciate the dark stuff in the way that people appreciate warm weather or fine wines. (Alright, maybe it's a little bit creepier than those examples.) I like a novel that isn't afraid to get down and dirty, and the promise of that is what drew me to Grift in the first place. In reality, plenty of teenagers are put in "adult" situations, so why shouldn't that be reflected in YA?Well, I was not disappointed in Grift, which was a wild ride that got realistically and deliciously gritty. Piper was a great voice, in the fact that she felt like an actual teenager. Not because her way of speaking and thinking was dumbed down, but because it wasn't. She was intelligent and had personality, and enough sense she gathered from all the situations she had been in. A little something like a YA antihero (which, by the way, I'd love to see more of), I thoroughly enjoyed reading from her perspective.A reason why the characterization of Grift was so good is because the characters all had flaws. They acted like humans instead of some kind of superhuman literary images of perfection (who may even go on and on about how "bad" they are though they do nothing wrong). These characters don't always do the right thing. They can be selfish and greedy and make bad decisions and it's so wonderfully wrong and so wonderfully human.Despite the fact that this is contemporary, a whole new world is created in the novel. Because it gives a believable account of what it would be like for teenage grifters in Las Vegas. It almost comes out as heightened reality, and will suck readers right into the story. Not to mention high stakes that would have my acting teach salivating. Although the idea of teenagers racking up six-digits in a short amount of time to spend on a poker game seems ridiculous when looking at my college tuition rates, it definitely makes for some heart-pounding action.Because the suspense is great, the action doesn't stop, and readers will probably be holding their breath for a couple of pages as they wait to see what happens next. I have very few complaints, and would definitely recommend the novel to those who enjoy high-stakes and taking a walk on the darker side. Grift has a very cinematic quality that makes for an enjoyable an relatively quick read.

Campbell I realize this book is only one of the series, but what a fantastic book it is about those dimunitive litte creatures called hummingbirds. Formatted like a picture book for young readers, it can be read like a story book. Each gorgeous and detailed illustration is accompanied by a one sentence explanation; this is great for little ones that have a hard time sitting still for a lot of text that many non-fiction books tend to have.Each illustration is labeled by plate number and the type of hummingbird(s)that appear in the picture. We learn that, "They often fight over food" and that they are "the only birds that can fly forward, backward, sideways, and even upside down." Various types of hummingbirds live in different climates and the length of their bills are determined by the types of flowers from which they get nectar.There's an afterword in the back that goes into more detail explaining the birds depicted in each plate (illustration), where they live, if they migrate, and unique characteristics. The illustrations are so detailed that a few of them appear to be more like photographs. The highest compliment I can pay this book is that I now want to check out the other books in the "About" series by the author.Excellent!

By Young Mensan BookParade This book is a non-fiction book that tells about the where hummingbirds live, what they eat, what eats the hummingbirds and their eggs, and lots and lots of other information.My favorite picture of the book is of the Eyelash Pit Viper trying to attack the hummingbird.I think other kids will like this book because of the beautiful pictures and the information in the back to tell you more about hummingbirds.I think girls will like this book because it's very pretty and maybe boys, too.I give this book, like, 2 million stars, if I could.Review by Lila H., age 7, Central Pennsylvania Mensa

Beautiful Book for Even a Young Child By Brenda King This book is beautifully illustrated and the text is simple enough for even a toddler to understand. My son really enjoyed the book, and since I've read it to him, has taken a great interest in all birds.

Now, I have to figure out where I belong in this new city, and who I’m meant to be.

About the Author My name is Angela K. Crandall. I was born in 1977. I grew up in the small town of Cadillac, Michigan. My first writing experience started in first grade when it was introduced as a way to express my emotions. I was encouraged by a teacher at a young age to begin writing stories. Then later was introduced to poetry in middle school. Myth is my first full-length novel. I enjoy writing fantasy, ghost stories, quotes, and poetry. I would like to embrace, and explore other genres of writing in the future. I am currently working on Myth book 2.

By Jonathon Koh ***The review is based on beta copy I read***The premise of the story is interesting, about a girl who can transform into a fox. It's about mythology about animals and the forest. For those who enjoy fairy-tale will enjoy this. There are romance and actions intermix into this adventurous story. Personally I wished for more magic and fighting but that's just my personal taste.The only issue I have with the book is there is too many switches between perspective that confused me. Occasionally I had to reread a few times to understand who is the one talking and where it is heading.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. No spoilers! I promise. By kidmuscle78 I've recently started reading a novel by Angela K. Crandall, "Myth". As of this review I have yet to have thoroughly finished it but I prefer to do my reviews as spoiler free as possible. I tend to lean more towards sci-fi/horror in my readings but this book is a page turner. As the tale of Starla begins it thrust you directly into the mysterious world in which she resides. At first, it seemed as though the tale had a "to fast to the point" build which I've seen in other books; like a firework of sorts. A quick ignition, a big "bang", and then a fade to fizzle. This story on the other hand keeps adding to the beginning opening bravado much like an opera. Each chapter adds more questions that keeps you delving deeper into this world. Even while running a fever I couldn't set the book down and in less than an hours time I've found myself 14 chapters in. That is when I decided to stop and write the review. I'm still going back to finish it but to know if I had read it all the way and did a review I would be compelled to ramble on about it potentially spoiling it for others. A reviewer shouldn't do that as the story is something each individual should experience on there own. I highly reccomend it as an amazing tale. Being as it's not my normal read I still found myself coming back to see what else Springville has in store for Starla. This being said, I'm giving this 4 stars because as an author you are always meant to broaden your horizons and hone your skills; 5 stars means that you've hit your pinnacle and as a writer it's both a blessing and a curse. The curse being that you've hit your ceiling and the only direction is to stay as is or to slip back down. Please everyone, this is an amazing story and I'm hoping everyone gives it a read.

This story is really well written and I can see a large group of young adults and teens really enjoying this book if I enjoyed it and am in my 50's!. Looking forward to the next book
