The Conquerors have gotten their hands on all but three of the talismans, and only two are in their possession. The last talisman is the Platinum Elk, which belongs to Tellun the elk, the greatest and most powerful of all the Great Beasts. However with Kovo the ape about to break free of his prison there's no time to go and seek the aid of Tellun. Conor, Abeke, Rollan, and the Greencloaks will have to travel to the Conqueror's homeland of Stetriol to try and stop Gerathon and Kovo. However terrible things are happening across Erdas. Continents are changing, the weather's going berserk, and the animals are getting sick. Is there a way to reverse this chaos? Or will Erdas be plunged into an era of darkness?I liked so much in the book. I liked how the actions of the Conquerors and Kovo and Gerathon are literally tearing Erdas apart. It really shows how serious the situation is. When Tellun made an appearance it's easy to see why he's the greatest of all the Great Beasts. I won't say what, but he does some pretty awesome stuff. Definitely not your average elk. I also liked how more Erdas mythology and history is brought into this book. However due to the fast pace of the book I was left feeling like they could've done more. While the battles were epic in their own right I was just left wanting a bit more. I'm not talking graphic or gory kind of violence. When I think about it I can see the point was to try and get through, not to fight bad guys except when absolutely necessary.Caution:A snake keeps taking control of people. Animals fight each other. The chaos the world is being thrown into might be intense for some.Lessons:The greatest act of love is to give our life for another. When the lives of our loved ones and our freedoms are threatened it's okay to fight to protect them. This is for people who are of a Christian background: The Atonement of Jesus Christ has the power to free us from the power of the Devil.

This book is a truly amazing book on its own By Amazon Customer Book Review By: Andy DengIn Spirit Animal--The Evertree, the four fallen fight to free Meilin from the bile. In the process, Tellun, the great beast with the platinum elk appears and tells the four fallen to answer Kovo the gorilla's call. The best thing about this book is how three kids work together with their spirit animals to save their friend. My favorite character is Rollan because he is always helping out the team whenever he can. He also is a very good leader of the four fallen. Even if you haven't read any of the other books in the series, you will still think that this book is truly amazing on its own.Spirit Animals#7 is mainly fantasy and is about Meilin being trapped in prison and Shane taking all the talismans. Kovo the gorilla is soon freed and goes to make some trouble. I wanted to keep reading because I wanted to know what would happen to Meilin, Kovo and the four fallen. I do not really like the part in the beginning where Conner was almost going to fall off the ledge because the reader knows that a main character won't die at the beginning of the book. However, I do really like the final part, the battle at the Evertree, because it was cool how a great beast faces another great beast in battle. I think that the main theme of the book is that there is always a circle of life but you need to help it happen and always protect it from evil.I highly recommend this book to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who love to read intense action. Also, if you read and like books about humans and animal friends, you should enjoy reading this book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Sweet By Hannah G Anderson For six books now, I've been waiting for Rollan to kiss Meilin and he finally did it-by accident. I loved this book and all in the series. Now I'm left here waiting and wondering if there will be an eighth book. If there ever will be I will read it. Cross my heart. You have my word.

Giving a deposition or testifying at a trial can be a painful and costly experience if you aren’t well prepared! Use these 101 easy tips as a jump-start to successfully prepare for your turn on the stand or in deposition. The tips are the result of Dr. Noelle Nelson’s working as a trial consultant with lawyers and their witnesses for over 25 years. You can see more about her work in the “client results” section (trial consulting tab) of her website: www.noellenelson.com. Unless specified otherwise, all the tips are equally valid for both deposition and trial. Here’s what some lawyers have said about Dr. Nelson’s witness preparation techniques: "Noelle Nelson is an excellent jury consultant. We used her in a … case to work with some particularly troublesome defense witnesses. She did a fine job coaching these witnesses on how to make a gentler, kinder, less defensive presentation in their testimony to the jury. She is easy to work with and quickly gains the cooperation and respect of even the most cantankerous witness. It is clear that she has mastered the techniques of teaching people how to make verbal and non-verbal responses which maximize their impact on the listener." - John B. Golper, Attorney; Ballard, Rosenberg & Golper "If your case is burdened with the witness from Hell, don't despair, try the magic of Dr. Noelle Nelson's advice. I have seen her witness preparation skills turn a frog into a prince." - Howard A. Jaffe, Vice Chairman, COO & General Counsel, The InterGroup Corporation “Dr. Nelson’s brilliance is evident in both her revealing insights into the courtroom drama, and her ability to effectively translate those insights into workable ideas for greater success. . .” - Marcia G. Lamm, Ph.D., Director, West Valley Psychological Clinic

As he watches his homeland of Hungary being taken over and run by invaders from Nazi Germany, young Prince Michael of Chestry strives to retain his identity and integrity during one of the most dangerous seasons in human history. Michael carries an acorn all the way from his castle home in Chestry Valley to the warm soil of the Hudson Valley farm in the USA where he makes a new home after WWII. It is difficult to decide which are the most unforgettable; the scenes in Hungary, Michael's proud, valiant father and his beloved Nana, or the friendly young GI and his family who take Michael to their hearts and make him their own. Perhaps the most compelling character of all is Midnight, the dancing black stallion, full of fire and beauty, and trained to perform before princes. Kate Seredy's drawings make this a book to treasure.

It tells the beautiful story of a child who must keep a deadly secret - that his father, the King, assumed to be a collaborator with the Nazis, is actually working with the Resistance. His father plans the boy's escape on the eve of a great bombing attack called down by the Resistance that will destroy the Nazi headquarters (with Michael's father within,) but Michael's love of a beautiful black stallion ruins his escape. Michael is injured, bringing on amnesia for a time. When he recovers the war is over, his father dead, still reputed to be a collaborator, the secret of his heroism in planning the attack locked in Michael's memory only. The story of his adoption by a young GI and his gradual healing, emotional and physically, in the arms of the young man's family in America is beautifully told (and shows the author's obvious love of this country.) Of course the truth about his father is eventually told, but he is glad to be a young farmer instead of Prince Michael. Of course there is some triteness and post war pro Americanism, but the writing is beautifully done and the theme is honorable. The book has lovely soft pencil drawings, many of gorgeous horses, but this is not primarily a horse story.

His parents are Hungarian nobility and his days are full of magic, from the stories of his beloved "Nana" to riding lessons. But it is World War II and slowly Michael's world begins to collapse. The family estate is taken over by Nazis and his father is accused of collaboration with them. As a small soldier in the war, Michael keeps the real truth hidden--that his father is working against the enemy--but pays for his love of the beautiful horse Midnight by losing all that he has loved. This is a beautifully written page turner of a novel with lovely illustrations by Seredy. Michael, Prince Chestry, and Nana are memorable long after the story is over, and once again Seredy glorifies the life of the "ordinary" farmer, who she considers to be the true royalty.

A Perfect, Unforgettable Epic Masterpiece for Families By Antmusic Fan I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Kate Seredy's THE CHESTRY OAK this year (2014). The cover did nothing for me, but then I started reading it. The book I have is the 1961 George G Harrap & Co Ltd reprint (the book was originally printed in 1957).The story is an emotional rollercoaster of perfect storytelling. Michael, "Miki" the young Prince of Chestry is on the edge of six when the story begins. The story is told in the third person, but it is mostly what Michael sees as he grows up in 1940s Hungary with his father and nurse, Nana. World War II has started and the Nazi's have started to occupy his country including Michael's very own castle. There is also an untamable "demon" of a horse named Midnight that Michael is bound and determined to claim for his own when he is of age. The story expands way beyond that, but I really don't to spoil it (careful reading some of the reviews on Amazon...and DON'T SKIM THROUGH THE ILLUSTRATIONS in the book).I have never felt such strong emotions while reading a "children's book." I gasped, I cried, I "woo hoo"ed, I smiled gloriously. Even stronger than when reading the Harry Potter series.I will be reading this aloud to my family very soon. I am a 39-year-old father of two grade school children, and I am very excited about sharing this with them. There is a lingering dread in the first few chapters that really shook me. A dread only an adult or very learned child would understand. The foreshadowing is there to creep up your spine and thrill you. Every bad moment is worth it though. As I said, "emotional rollercoaster." Don't be shocked if you have tears on your cheeks too.You can read it as a horse story. You can read it as a human spirit story. You can read it as a terrors-of-war story. It is all those things and more. It is a perfect, unforgettable epic masterpiece for families. It is very hard to place the age-appropriateness of this book, and that is why I call it a "family" book.Thank God Purple House Press is reprinting THE CHESTRY OAK (next year, in 2015) along with some other Kate Seredy books. I will have to check those out.

The Hour of the Dragon, also known as Conan the Conqueror, is a 1935 fantasy novel written by Robert E. Howard featuring his seminal sword and sorcery hero Conan the Cimmerian. It was the last Conan story published before Howard's suicide although not the last to be written. The plot is a loosely based melange of motifs from previous Conan short stories, most notably "The Scarlet Citadel", with which it shares an almost identical storyline. It takes place when Conan is about forty-five, during his reign as King of Aquilonia, and follows a plot by a group of conspirators to depose him in favor of Valerius, heir to Conan's predecessor Numedides, whom he had slain to gain the throne.

It's in the public domain, which means googling "hour of the dragon gutenberg" will allow you to read the full text of it free of charge, and this apparently is why editor Charles Moffat seems to believe it's legal for him to sell this ebook. Unfortunately for him, the character of Conan is still trademarked, meaning this edition is strictly speaking illegal. I would have to recommend against paying money for an illegal copy of a freely available book.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. 5 Stars From a Complete Bibliofile! (Written by an 11-year-old girl) By Elizabeth B Mitchell To all you sympathetic book lovers, this may seem quite irregular. But in truth, Mapleshade is my favourite cat out of them all (including the original and living cats). She is most certainly not wicked; Mapleshade just wants her vengeance. This is completely understandable. The revenge is rightfully hers. Why wouldn't it be, after watching her Clan deny the life of her kits? After all, in the modern-day cats' world, it's fine (Graystripe, Silverstream, Leafpool, Crowfeather, and more that I simply can not recall have committed this 'crime' against the Code). Below is my opinion on why this book is so great. The Plot (Caution: Spoilers Below)-----------------------------------The plot in this book is particularly well done. Basically, Mapleshade has mated with a cat outside of her home Clan (ThunderClan ), named Appledusk.Suddenly, however, Mapleshade is discovered. Exiled from her Clan, she flees to the river, where, tragically, her kits drown. RiverClan rescues her - but not her precious kits - from the river's churning waters. Then the leader of RiverClan banishes her. Enraged and vengeful, Mapleshade embarks on her quest for eternal revenge. The Story's Character----------------------If you have read this novella by master authors under the pseudonym (pen name) Erin Hunter, or any book in their arcs, you know the feeling that you get when reading a Warriors book: the feeling of wind rushing past, claws slashing before your very eyes, the warmth of the sun shining on your back, the taste of fresh-kill, the metallic tang of blood, et cetera, et cetera: all for the disappointment of glancing up and finding to both your relief and melancholy that it was all a wondrous dream, tucked away into a good book. If you are interested in these epic fantasy books, please consider purchasing one. It is most definitely worth the money, and the little time spent reading (as, I promise, you will spend only a slice of time reading because of how incredible it is). The books have character, and Mapleshade's Vengeance is a perfect example. The One Complaint--------------------My only complaint about this formidable book is that Mapleshade's Vengeance is utterly too brief. Erin, if possible, and if you see this, please write the next novella to be longer so that we can savour your writings longer!Tips and Cautions-------------------Tip Number One - Age Group Recommendation: My recommendation for the ages reading this book is below. Please consult this, as it will be helpful. Thank you.Kids: Ages 7+, as this book is a bit violent. However, I believe 7 is an appropriate age to read this, although it may be a trifle gory anyhow.Adults: Any age is fine. Adults are capable of stomaching the action and violence in this. And that concludes my review. I hope you found this helpful, and if you aren't sure about a 7-year old reading this book, it's okay. In the meantime while waiting to read this book, try some other Warriors books. They are normally much more gentle. Thank you for taking the time to consult this review.A bientôt,Elizabeth T. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. best warriors novella yet! By Ivylight, warrior of StarClan definently the best novella yet!!!!! i never really got into the novellas much because id get through them in two seconds then im like what to read what to read???!!!! this novella made the most out of its limited pages. SPOILERS mapleshade was a good cat that was loyal to starclan and stuck to the warrior code like a leech so i was like what could of possibly made mapleshade evil? yes, she had a mate in another clan, but a lot of greayt and insporational cats had a mate in another clan: Bluestar, Leafpool, etc. and mapleshade was a really good cat for like 80% of the book. No other cat has been exiled from their clan for having a mate in aother clan its been done before. At least the kits should of been appreacted. I really thought patchkit would turn into patchpelt in the prophecies begin but i guess that happens later because all three kits drown in the river while mapleshade wades there to get help from riverclan. riverclan should of least helped her, but they were like get out of our camp we dont want you here now youre exiled from TWO clans!!!!! Mapleshade wasnt dark forest evil even then he had to go to twolegplace and myler the stupid kittypet let her in and comforted her and stuff. (sorry if im calling mapleshade a him in this) then in his dreams his kits were like save me mama dont let me drown and mapleshade thought the only way to save them was to kill the cats who let them drown which were ravenwing, who found out about mapleshade and applepelt and told oakstar, frecklewish, who was watching mapleshade when her kits were drowning but didnt help, and his exmate applepelt ( i think pelt ) who also didnt save her kits from drowning. She then killed them all and her dreams about her kits were gone. mapleshade went to mylers barn to heal up but she died there. mapleshade was now in the dark forest where she truly belonged. END OF SPOILERS so basically mapleshade wasnt a bad cat from the beginning like tigerstar she was just pushed into it anyway best novella ever five stars etc. etc. etc. bye!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Mapleshade By Violinatta I honestly think that Mapleshade is my favorite cat out of all the cats ever mentioned. She suffered through loss, betrayal, and she wanted vengence (hence the title). I think her story was sad, and heart felt. She just found the love of her life, but her love is forbidded. She disobeyed the code to be with her love, and soon was the mother of their children. alas, her clan found out, and mercilessly kicked her and her innocent kits out. So she went to her mates clan to asked for shelter. Sadly, she had to cross a river to get to their territory. As she dragged her kits across, they were swept away. They died because their mother's clan showed no mercy, even to the innocent kits who knew none of their mother's wrongdoing. So she treked to her mate's clan alone, only to be turned down by her own mate! Heartbroken and rejected, cast out by the ones she loved, Mapleshade became a rouge, and swore for her vengence. When she saw Crookedkit, so raw and innocent, she struck. She made him swear apon a oath, and he agreed. If you want to read more about Crookedkit, check out Crookedstar's promise. so Mapleshade used Crookedkit for her vengence. She made his life miserable. She made him watch him mother die, his brother fall for thubderclan cat, and later made him watch his mate and his daughters die of greencough. His last surviving daughter died giving birth to a thuderclan cat's kits. Mapleshade made sure Crookedkit (now Crokedstar) felt the pain she went through. I really reccomend this book to you it is a great read and brought me to tears.one thing though to answer one of the other responses. The reason why Mapleshade was kicked out while later on, Leafpool and Greystripe didn't get kicked out is because at Mapleshade's rime, the clans code wasn't as enforced as it is today, and times were hard, so the leaders were more strict with cats breaking the code (not that any leaders now are not strict enough I didn't mean it that way).

She is a writer herself and an attorney so she knows what she is talking about when it comes to a writer's needs, and a lawyer's profession. If you are a writer and you need a resource on law and lawyers, this is your go-to source.

So thanks for that...The best book on the law I ever read was “Representing Your Client in Court.” A tiny book, with helpful suggestions on work-a-day criminal court work; like how to do a plea in mitigation for a recidivist shop lifter. A judge wrote it, and he filled it with really useful stuff that isn't covered in the weighty and learned tomes. A conversation of a book.Wyle's “Closest to the Fire” is also a conversation of a book. And while there are other conversational legal books, like McElhaney's "Trial Notebook," Wyle's book isn't written for lawyers. Having said that, “Closest to the Fire” is a well considered book. A book I would have liked to have had as a law student. A book that would also be of value to writers of legal fiction. A book with story ideas instead of footnotes.I appreciate that in writing fiction each author has to determine how embedded in the real world they want their fiction to be. “True Blood,” for instance, doesn't have to be particularly true. And nor particularly does “My Cousin Vinny.” If you write legal fiction then at some stage you need to decide if you want to be fanciful with your law, like “In the Name of the Father.” Or accurate with the law, like “My Cousin Vinny.” If you decide for accuracy then I can recommend Wyle's “Closest to the Fire” as an accessible, digestible, and useful guide. If you decide for fanciful then all you need to do is make it up as you go along – and throw in a few 'legal' sounding words every now and then. For law students, I can recommend Wyle's “Closest to the Fire” as a conversation worth having. A conversation that will help to create a context for the law that schools tend to like to teach. An 'I get it now,' sort of book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An amazing mythology collection By Elizabeth A. Root I suppose that some of the work in this book, one of a 13 volume set written between 1916 and 1932 (reprinted in the 1960s, has been changed by more recent scholarship, but there is still nothing to equal this fantastic achievement. The set includes not only the more familiar myths such as Greek and Roman, but pretty well succeeds in its goal to include all of humanity. The text is extremely detailed but very readable; none of the turgid prose so often associated with academia. The volumes contain numerous illustrations, both in the text and as plates (mostly black & white.)One of the most useful parts of the set is the final volume, an extremely detailed index, which allows the reader to pursue a theme, or even a topic as specific as the significance of belts, across all the volumes. The individual volumes do not have their own indices, but the tables of contents are fairly detailed. The books appear to have been issued without dust jackets.
