Blankenship For those of you who have read or own Chris Gall's 2009 book, "DinoTrux," this new offering is an absolute must read and buy! The story takes up where DinoTrux left off. The archeologists have placed the uncovered monsters of a million or more years ago and placed them is a museum where the remains of all discovered extinct creatures go.But wait! Are they extinct or are they merely dormant? But wait again! For those of you who did not have the pleasure of reading Chris's first book, a bit of an explanation is on order I suppose.Thousands and millions years ago monsters ruled the earth. We had creatures such as the dreaded Craneosaurus, Dozeratops, Rollodon, Garbageadon, Digasaurus, Firesaurus and many others. Of course the most fearful Tyrannosaurus Trux also roamed the country. After a large flash in the sky and a tremendous storm, these monstrous creatures became extinct; were buried and at the end of the first story, archeologist had dug their remains up, placed them in a museum where they waited and waited and waited. As the story continues with this book, the monsters have finally had enough; enough prodding and poking by children. Enough of being swung on and ran across (The kids from the Kindergarten class were the worse by far). The dreaded Dinotrux decided to break out of their display cases, crash through the walls and rampage across the countryside.Oh my...what will happen? What will happen?Chris Gall, as with his first book, has combined the dinosaur with modern powerful earth moving equipment and heavy equipment and trucks to create these fearful beasts. Now if there are two things that most kids love they are dinosaurs and heavy equipment. Check in your local public or school library. Books covering these two subjects are some of the most used books in the institution. With the arrival of the "Transformer phenomena," this sort of thing has become even more popular and Mr. Gall has mastered it.Needless to say that despite their escape and despite what looks to become a complete disaster, all works out quite well when the folks in the town decide to send all of the DinoTrux to school where they learn to read, write, good manners and how to get along with the other creatures (People included) that share the earth with them.Beautiful and exciting artwork highlight this book and coupled with the lively and "crash, bang." and active text make this book extremely appealing to the younger set. The text is difficult enough to be challenging and has not been dumbed-down like so many books being published these days. The illustrations are extremely active, extremely busy and quite graphing and to he honest; quite funny! We have some very sophisticated drawings and color combinations here which create a wonderful side bonus. I have noted that the kids at school love to try to duplicate the mechanical creatures featured in this work and are constantly trying to freehand them or trace when that does not work out so well.We have here a great story, engaging text and top of the line illustrations and the kids love this work and the previous one - Dinotrux. What more could you want? I do recommend you read the first book in this series as it and this most recent one go perfectly and are actually one continual story although both can be read as independent reads. This work is quite suitable for those ages four and up. I do note that quite a number of Jr. High students leaf through this one quite often.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free for an honest review. An honest review you got. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. By Madigan McGillicuddy In this highly anticipated sequel to Dinotrux, the dinotrux grow weary of all the screaming, banging and swinging they have to endure at the museum. They bust loose and create mayhem all over town. Look for funny little details such as the newspaper headline, "What Do They Want?" When the mayor demands the dinotrux go to school, it would appear they're just as wild as ever... until they learn to read (truck books, natch.) Soon they're roaring off again - this time to build a playground, perfect for "screaming, banging and swinging." Large full-color spreads on every page are full of action. According to the illustrator they were "created with the help of 30W synthetic motor oil, 4-bolt mains, and a competition clutch." Funny stuff, and something you'll definitely want to add to your collection. What's next? Bride of Dinotrux? I hope so!
