Enjoy this book for teens all the way to adults about a rambunctious rogue orpan girl named Anya-Marie, and how she uses the strength of her pain and body to protect others. In this installment Anya can't sleep and the only thing that will tire her out is a good round of parkouring across city tops. But her little run ends up more than just a midnight stroll... Enjoy this comics prose hybrid as Anya gives justice in the blackest of alleys.

In this funny, uncannily wise portrait of the dynamics of a sixth-grade class and of the greatness that sometimes comes in unlikely packages, Dwight, a loser, talks to his classmates via an origami finger puppet of Yoda. If that weren t strange enough, the puppet is uncannily wise and prescient. Origami Yoda predicts the date of a pop quiz, guesses who stole the classroom Shakespeare bust, and saves a classmate from popularity-crushing embarrassment with some well-timed advice. Dwight s classmate Tommy wonders how Yoda can be so smart when Dwight himself is so clueless. With contributions from his puzzled classmates, Tommy assembles this first case file in the blockbuster bestselling Origami Yoda series, written by Tom Angleberger, author of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side," and hailed by "School Library Journal "as honest, funny, and immensely entertaining. The Strange Case of Origami Yoda (Origami Yoda #1), by Tom Angleberger

From School Library Journal Grade 3–6—For Tommy, the only question is whether or not Origami Yoda is real. Of course he's real as a small puppet on Dwight's finger. But does the oracle possess magic power? In order to find out, he decides to compile scientific evidence from the experiences of those who asked Origami Yoda for help. His friend Harvey is invited to comment on each story because he thinks Yoda is nothing but a "green paper wad." Tommy also comments because he's supposedly trying to solve the puzzle. In actuality, the story is about boys and girls in sixth grade trying to figure out how being social works. In fact, Tommy says, "…it's about this really cool girl, Sara, and whether or not I should risk making a fool of myself for her." The situations that Yoda has a hand in are pretty authentic, and the setting is broad enough to be any school. The plot is age-old but with the twist of being presented on crumpled pages with cartoon sketches, supposed hand printing, and varying typefaces. Kids should love it.—Sheila Fiscus, Our Lady of Peace School, Erie, PA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

From Booklist Tommy and his friends think that Dwight is a weirdo who’s “always talking about robots or spiders or something.” In true Dwight fashion, he shows up at school one day brandishing a little origami Yoda finger puppet. The really weird thing is that it doles out very un-Dwight-like bits of wisdom, and the mystery is whether the Yoda is just Dwight talking in a funny voice or if it actually has mystical powers. The book is structured as a collection of stories gathered by Tommy and told by kids who either believe or don’t. See, Tommy has a more vested interest than just idle curiosity—he is dying to know if he can trust Yoda’s advice about asking the cute girl to dance with him at the PTA Fun Night. Origami Yoda—a sort of talking cootie catcher—is the kind of thing that can dominate all those free moments in school for a few weeks. Angleberger’s rendering of such a middle-grade cultural obsession is not only spot-on but also reveals a few resonant surprises hidden in the folds. Naturally, Yoda-making instructions are included. Grades 4-6. --Ian Chipman

By Flamingnet Teen Book Reviews Imagine yourself, a loser in middle school with loserfriends. At every opportunity to get the girl you like tolike you, it never happens. But that might all change. When Tommy sees the finger puppet of Yoda that thatloser Dwight has on his finger, it seems ordinary. Sameold origami, same good origami it's the same as always. But when origami Yoda starts to give people advice, goodadvice, things change. Since Dwight is such a loser, hisadvice should be bad too, right? But Yoda's advice is,well, Yoda-like. When Tommy starts to think about askinga girl to a dance, he isn't sure. So by putting togetherthe case of Origami Yoda, he must come to a conclusion: isYoda for real?I think that this book was good. I alsothink that the author expressed each characterindividually. I loved how each case file was written infirst person by different people. I was really capturedby this book. I also think that it should be a series. This book really makes you want to pick it up and neverput it down.Reviewed by a young adult student reviewerFlamingnet Book ReviewsTeen books reviewed by teen reviewers

The self-consciousness, the silliness, the high-strung emotions, the intense wanting to be grown-up, the embarrassment, the awkwardness, how hard it is to avoid taking the easy way out, and how loyalty to your friends is the right thing. This is a book about friendship and loyalty, with a great plot about "will he ask the girl to dance?" And a surprising finger puppet who knows all the answers.Great on plot and characterization -- marvelous side doodles and illustrations that go with the case file. Directions for making Origami Yoda at home. Now the bad news. Fart-face. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Crap. You're an idiot. I'm an idiot. You're a moron. You're a jerk. You're stupid. He's a loser. You're a loser. You're so stupid. I'm a loser. You weirdo. Bejeezus. My family of boys ranges in age all the way down to kindergarten. What big brother reads, little brother repeats. Do I want to sanction these words? Three stars.Update -- try "The Qwikpick Adventure Society" by Sam Riddleburger. Funny book, similar journaling style, more wholesome (although it features poop as the main part of the adventure.)Update -- The follow on book, "Darth Paper," is almost entirely free of the objectionable language in this book. Well done, Mr. Angleberger!

By Earl I had originally seen this while walking through a Barnes and Noble and remembered it later (being a Star Wars fan with an 11 year-old daughter). I purchased it for her here on Amazon and she was very excited to read it. Once she finished she insisted I read it as well. I can't tell you how glad I am to have stumbled upon this book - what a FUN read! The book has a really sharp design throughout - I love the illustrations and all the little details - not only do they capture the characters in the book but there are more than a few funny Star Wars references that fans will delight in. As for the writing and story I was captivated from the moment I picked it up. Having a 6th grader, I can truly say that the author has captured the essence of their unique personalities and place in life so well. While there is some character exaggeration that adds to the frivolity of the book, the heart of the characters all ring true and I could place many of my daughter's friends right in the shoes and voice of many of those characters. I laughed out loud several times reading the book - the humor is so warm and sweet and funny. This is a great book for anyone with a child around middle school age, or even an adult Star Wars fan looking for a really fun book to add to their collection. Both my daughter and I hope that the author revisits these characters - we can't wait for more adventures of Dwight and his Origami Yoda!

In this sweet read-aloud, a little bird in the big city searches for the perfect puddle. Fans of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” will enjoy Little Bird's search for a just-right puddle after a rainstorm. He searches far and wide, but some puddles are too big, some are too small, and some are already crowded with bathers. When Little Bird finds a good-looking puddle in a city park, one surprise after another spoils his bath. A ball comes bounce-bounce-bouncing. . . . A little girl comes flip-flop-flapping. . . . And a dog comes arf-arf-arfing . . . straight through Little Bird's puddle. But soon, Little Bird finds the perfect puddle to call his own. Appealing illustrations and a rhythmic text filled with repetition and fun sounds make this an ideal choice for storytime or laptime.

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 1—Russo's new picture book is about staying positive on a rainy day. Little Bird expresses his distaste for the rain, briefly, then he sings bits of familiar water-inspired songs ("Rain, Rain Go Away," "Rub-a-Dub-Dub") and heads for the nearest puddle. Before he can get fully wet, though, he's scared away by children, a dog, and other birds. But it's while he's flying high in the sky that he spots something "shining, sparkling, and shimmering down below." Most readers may not have big stone fountains in their yard, like the one the protagonist finds, but children who live in homes with a birdbath will learn they, too, are helping birds. Established parks, historical buildings, and an active multicultural community are depicted with gouache and colored pencil. This story has repetition, prepositions, and playful onomatopoeia, all of which make this a must-read for storytime; regardless of the weather.—Tanya Boudreau, Cold Lake Public Library, AB, Canada

About the Author MARISABINA RUSSO is the author and illustrator of numerous picture books for children, including The Bunnies Are Not in Their Beds, which was called "fresh and engaging" by Booklist; A Very Big Bunny, a Bank Street Best Book of the Year; and I Will Come Back for You: A Family in Hiding During World War II, based on the experiences of her grandmother's family during the Holocaust, which was named a Parents' Choice Gold Award Winner and an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award Winner. After sleeping through the night and the rain, little bird goes looking for a puddle in which to take a bath. But he struggles to find the perfect puddle. When the perfect puddle presents itself, little bird starts taking his bath only to be interrupted over and over. Will little bird find the perfect place to take a bath or will he have to fly home without? Russo has created an adorable story about a cute little bird. Close-ups of little bird alternate with shots of little bird flying through the city making this a great book for talking about perspective. Also, the story and illustrations are arranged perfectly for giving young readers a chance to predict what's coming, there's even some foreshadowing once little bird finds what he at first thinks is the perfect puddle.

He finally finds what he thinks is the perfect spot -- until passersby splash the whole thing away. Dejected, he heads back home, only to find a fountain on the way. Thrilled, he settles in for a nice, long splash. This is a cute, sweet story with large, colorful pictures. It would work well for a read-aloud, especially in conjunction with a unit on birds or a lesson on learning how to roll with the punches.

20 of 20 people found the following review helpful. A great read-aloud book By Stuart Cooper I first discovered this book whilst searching for novels to serial-read to my class (I am a primary school teacher.) Having seen the original 'Parent Trap' and read 'Emil' as a boy, I felt Lottie and Lisa would be good to try. With one exception (a class containing mostly angry, macho boys), all my classes have enjoyed it, even loved it. Most children have seen the Parent Trap (sadly, most never saw the Hayley Mills version), and they are intrigued by the comparison in plots and characterisation. The reference to Shirley Temple and the double standards of American censorship at the time leave them puzzled, as does the excitement at the prospect that, when the busload of new girls arrives at the holiday home, 'one of them might have a ball (to play with'). Explaining to them that this book was written shortly after WW2 when toys were in short supply in Germany, helps them understand.WARNING: Any teacher reading this to a class of 8-12 year olds, be ready - Chapter 9 is an emotional minefield: I've noticed my voice getting shaky towards the end of it. Just letting you know.

16 of 16 people found the following review helpful. I am SO STUPID By Bonnie Perkins I read this book as a ten-year old and it stuck with me for what has been the next seventeen years. Warm, wonderful, very charming. The ORIGINAL, BEST and should have been the ONLY version of the Parent Trap. I wish I had known that this book would be largely forgotten, I would have held on to my copy to share with my own kids.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. interesting to compare with the two Disney movies By A Customer After seeing a good movie based on a book, do you like to read the book? So do I! That's why I read Erich Kastner's novel, translated under the title of "Lisa and Lottie." Lisa lives with Daddy, who is an opera conductor in Vienna. Lottie lives with Mommy, who is employed by a periodical in Munich. When they meet, there is none of the feuding which we see in both of the Disney movies. (Kastner was imprisoned by the Nazis for his pacifist convictions. He might have disapproved.) The girls take a trip to town and have their picture taken. The photographer makes an extra copy and sends it to the periodical in Munich as a curiosity. At the end of the camp season, the girls make the switcheroo. They exchange messages by General Delivery until Lottie meets Cruella's counterpart. The shock renders Lottie bed-ridden, so Lisa stops receiving messages. About this time, the news is slow in Munich. The editor shows Mommy the photograph of the twins and asks her to write a caption. Mommy realizes the truth and presses Lisa for an explanation. Lisa says that they have been exchanging letters, but she hasn't received any in a while. Mommy correctly infers that Lottie is ill. So Mommy and Lisa take a trip to Vienna, and voila! The book is a short children's novel, and I was able to read it in three hours. It's not nearly the tear-jerker that the movie is, but it was nice and entertaining. Incidentally, didn't Annie and Hallie both say that their birthday was October 14? That must have been for a touch of authenticity!

A great end to a wonderful series By Dreams When I was first contacted to read and provide an honest review of Fire, I was excited by the possibilities the novel offered. Two books later, that excitement hasn't faded any.Our heroes were back again for their final adventure. But danger was closer than ever, and Cinaer wasn't taking any prisoners this time around. Roxy had finally found Brae, after her adventures in the last book, only the reunion does not go as planned. Things were just as uncertain for Jasmine as they were for Roxy. Just when things started coming together after her shock from book two, she's forced to come to terms with her actions that have led the story thus far.I loved Roxy. Somewhere along the way during Water, Roxy really became the focus of the novel for me. Jasmine was intriguing, but she was so focused on her lie that I couldn't really connect with her. Roxy on the other hand, I got her. Not only was she a fun character when she was all bad and fiery, but over the course of the three books she became a character that was really inspirational.I must say Heather James does a wonderful job with her character transformations. The characters really make this story succeed. Air, like the first two books, is told in alternating point of views between Roxy and Jasmine, so we really get to see the final stage of their transformation first hand. But other characters like Brae and Tristan have equally important and fascinating character arcs that she really brings through each page as well.Brae was ok. There was a moment where he really got on my nerves with how he reacted to a certain incident. I can't blame him for being upset, but it was a bit too aggravating. Not quite hypocritical, but like failure of perfection was intolerable. Like I said, I understand the why, but it made me like him less as a person. Which doesn't make a lot of sense as I sit here thinking about it because I cannot explain my dislike in a satisfactory manner.Tristan was a fun character from the moment he was introduced. Here was a boy who had games and schemes, but just when you think you saw him and understood what he had planned, Tristan completely changed things up. I loved that. He was unpredictable, and a bit -ok, a whole lot- on the badboy scale.I really cannot beheld accountable for my love of the badboy character. And boy does Tristan have a surprise or two left for us before the end.We have been building to this moment -war- since page one of Fire. The conflict between the four different elements, the four countries has reached the point where winning side will completely change the fate of their world. Cinaer was one hell of a baddie, and he had a lot planned for our heroes this go around. I hated him so much, but I loved him as a character. He was smart, and didn't make the stereotypical underestimating our heroes mistakes you sometimes see in books. The fantastical elements of this series really came out to play in this one. Everything we've learned about the Protectors and their powers was important and drove our story. There were elements mentioned in book one, things I'd forgotten about, that suddenly were back in action. There was a certain twist that I sat there trying to figure out how something happened but never saw the actual solution coming. The first part of this book seemed to be focused more on the characters and their lies and confessions and interactions finally coming to task. Every single choice and decision they have made since the beginning had a consequence and the author does a wonderful job pulling all there books together. While they still had some decisions to make before the end, once the action started, the drums were sounded and war was on.From there, the focus shifted to survival. Yet, it wasn't just survival as in living. It was about surviving as in not losing who you were too. I was very upset when the story ended. Don't get me wrong, I loved the ending, I just want more. I am not ready to give these characters up.A reread is certainly in the forecast.Words To Live By"Perhaps, she should learn not to place her trust in the people she has betrayed." (7%)"I was infinitely darker and more broken than she was. Even for him I could never be perfect; it just wasn't who I was. If I told him that, I would risk losing him. But if I kept quiet, I risked losing myself instead." (27%)"I'm not sure anymore whether people are telling me the truth, or telling me what I want they think I want to hear." (53%)OverallThis is my number one indie series that I have read in the past few years. If you like fantasy YA with complex characters, a fun world, and plot that keeps you guessing, then I highly recommend this series.

She writes with the same polished, inviting style that we’ve come to appreciate from her while at the same time throwing in a few twists that readers would never expect. James brings her fantasy world to the forefront of readers’ minds via her vibrant descriptions that allow readers to place themselves in the story. Although geared towards a YA novel this is definitely a story that will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. The dual perspectives in this novel really let you get to know a lot about the female leads. By this point in time readers know them quite well. I enjoyed seeing their perspectives on what was going on infused throughout. James brings the entire cast to life in a larger than life manner that really captures your attention. I love how she develops not only the individual characters but the different peoples of this world. Readers get to know the different customs associated with each. It’s truly a unique experience. As a whole, this was definitely a one of a kind conclusion to James’ series. James ties up all of the loose ends well while taking readers on a fantastical journey, but yet never closes off the possibility that there will be more to come. But I will warn readers that it is just that, a conclusion to the series. One should really read the series in order for the full effect. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Through out the other books, water and fire, i couldnt wait for heather to update. Air was the longest and most detailed. Roxy, Jasmine,Brae and Tristan matured throught the books. And Cinear. Well lets just say he was a fun character. I loved Air because it brought together the four realms and gave an indication that change was acceptable even if it would be a gradual process. Heather writes in a way that keeps u turning the pages and wanting to knw what happens next. I loved reading about Jasmines transformation frm scared naive girl to one who knew and understood her importance and hw to correct her mistakes. And i love roxy. Her fiesty attitude n her learning that the world didnt revolve around her. The girls journey was slow but they got there. Eventually. With help frm their friends. I was sad at their losses and happy at their triumphs. Congracts heather your book is truely remarkable. I did nt expect smething like this wen i started but am glad i did.

Inspiring and important resource for those who work with couples in conflict By Lisa Jacobs Author of "Light on Peacemaking: A Guide to Appropriate Dispute Resolution and Mediating Family Conflict,"Thomas DiGrazia, beautifully integrates the findings of neuroscience with tools and techniques of mediation and yoga, both of which Thomas has practiced and taught for many decades. By TOM DIGRAZIA “George Bernard Shaw wisely wrote that ‘Perhaps the greatest social service that can be rendered by anybody to the country and to mankind is to bring up a family.’ Yet family conflicts remain widespread, destructive, and unresolved. Would it not be a far greater social service than Shaw imagined to improve our skills in family peacemaking, in preventing and resolving chronic family conflicts, and in transforming them into sources of learning and heartfelt connection? Light on Peacemaking: A Guide to Appropriate Dispute Resolution and Mediating Family Conflict is an insightful contribution to this effort, bringing together neurophysiology and mediation, nonviolent communication and parenting skills, spirituality, and common sense.”Kenneth Cloke, author of The Dance of Opposites: Explorations in Mediation, Dialogue and Conflict Resolution Systems Design.
