An Anatomy of Louisiana Evidence Law is the first of its kind in Louisiana, representing a new trend in law school casebooks across the country. Much more than just a compilation of cases and notes, this book is a complete coursebook. It presents a detailed, thorough, and comprehensive examination of the law of evidence through the use of concise commentary and a number of pedagogical elements designed to both reinforce legal principles and to help bridge the ever-widening gap between law school theory and practice. This exceptionally organized casebook covers the entire Louisiana Code of Evidence with a treatise-like explanation of the legal principles, written in a reader friendly style. The casebook includes both Louisiana cases and select U.S. Supreme Court cases directly affecting Louisiana law with discussion questions to assist students in understanding the cases and concepts in each section. Reinforced by a summary of key points, students are presented with a straightforward presentation of the law, designed to better equip them to more fully engage in classroom lectures and discussion. This style of presentation of the law is coupled with numerous opportunities for application with over 400 original problems and practical application exercises. Throughout the book are comparisons of major distinctions between the Louisiana Code of Evidence and the Federal Rules of Evidence and a discussion of public policy concerns underlying the evidentiary principles to serve as a guide to understanding how the law should be applied and to better understand many of the distinctions in the state and federal laws.

It has over 400 hypotheticals so you can test your knowledge, discussion questions, charts for practicing attorneys, key points, tons of distinction between the federal rules of evidence and Louisiana rules of evidence explained in detail, and the entire Louisiana Code of Evidence is in the back. It is a text but honestly I think practicing attorneys could get a lot of it. The author makes evidence really easy to understand through the commentary that is reinforced by sentenced that begin with "For example," or "In other words". The cases are a good reference to include in pretrial motions, as they are located in one place under one specific subject, making a fastcase or westlaw search not necessary. AND they are edited so they save the lawyer time. This book is the best evidence book in Louisiana and better than most federal evidence books I have seen. If you want to know evidence better, buy this book.

Wait a Minute (Cork and Fuzz), by Dori Chaconas

About the Author Dori Chaconas was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1938. The second child in a family of seven, Dori fell into the role of storyteller, nursery rhyme singer, and general entertainer for her siblings. She claims she learned about story pacing early. If the story action lagged, her fidgety audience would either scatter or start a poking war.

She has been married to Nick, her high school sweetheart, for 44 years. Everyone says the romance will last. They raised four daughters, and are now enjoying three grandsons—especially Grandpa, having been outnumbered by women all those years.

When their daughters were young, Dori wrote for them. She published three picture books and more than fifty stories in children's magazines. In the 70's, her interest turned to yarn embroidery design and she sold designs to major needlework companies and national magazines.

In 1997, Dori started writing stories again, partly to keep her grandsons from fidgeting or starting poking wars. Her stories reflect the warmth of family life. Dori gives credit to her parents for giving her a strong sense of family, and to her children and grandchildren for keeping it alive.

While the rest of her classmates were making pastries in cooking classes, Mary Nohl was making art—anything she fancied out of anything she could find. Inspiration struck Mary even when she wasn’t looking for it. Mary used common objects to make uncommon art. And one day, her garden was a gallery.         Mary Nohl passed away in 2001 at the age of eighty-seven. Her famous garden gallery is located in the front yard of her Fox Point, Wisconsin, home to this day.

In Mary's Garden, by Tina Kugler, Carson Kugler

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2—Children are introduced to a lesser-known contemporary Midwestern American artist in this picture-book biography of Mary Nohl (1914–2001). A spare narrative allows the pictures to describe how, from childhood, Nohl's imagination soared as she explored the many interests that led her to combine found objects with cement to create fantastical creatures, eventually installed in the garden surrounding the Lake Michigan home she built with her father. World travels provided further inspiration for her non-traditional, sometimes primitive, art, ably represented here mostly in spreads that convey the scope and variety of Nohl's work. The illustrations combine watercolor with digital painting, collage, and vintage papers, resulting in a soft palette and an uncomplicated, accessible drawing style. Children will delight in the whimsy of the art pieces and their placement in the garden as well as the participation of Mary's dogs, Sassafras and Basil, in the discovery process. An author's note, accompanied by two photographs, gives more detail about Nohl's life and the challenge of preserving her home and garden for public enjoyment.—Marie Orlando, formerly at Suffolk Cooperative Library System, Bellport, NY

Review "This quiet, engaging offering celebrates the artist's vision and her idiosyncratic work."—Booklist "The illustrations combine watercolor with digital painting, collage, and vintage papers, resulting in a soft palette and an uncomplicated, accessible drawing style. Children will delight in the whimsy of the art pieces and their placement in the garden as well as the participation of Mary’s dogs, Sassafras and Basil, in the discovery process."—School Library Journal "The Küglers use watercolor, digital painting, collage and vintage papers to portray Mary's world and sculptures...A friendly chronicle of an offbeat artist."—Kirkus "Chalky mixed-media collages are punctuated by items of significance...a quiet homage."—Publishers Weekly "The authors embellish their picture-book biography of artist Mary Nohl (1914–2001) with touches of whimsy...The illustrations—digital collages of scratchy, affectionate paintings on an assortment of papers—mirror this sense of wonder."—Horn Book Magazine "An appealing and kid-friendly introduction to Nohl's art."—Bulletin

About the Author Tina and Carson Kügler both grew up in Milwaukee, influenced by Mary Nohl's garden of fantastical creatures. They blossomed into professional artists and created three rather loud creatures of their own. After years of dreaming about how to turn Mary's wonderland into a book, Tina and Carson combined traditional and digital collage elements to capture the spirit of Mary's art.The Küglers currently reside in Los Angeles, where Carson is a storyboard supervisor for Nickelodeon Animation and Tina is a full-time children's book illustrator.

My children are 4, 6, 9, and 11, and they all love this book. You can't help but be drawn into Mary Nohl's world, and the way the illustrations are done, it's like you're standing by her side and getting a glimpse into her imagination. My younger kids like the sculptures Mary creates, and my older kids like the idea of seeing creatures in the world around you, waiting to be built. The illustrations are a wonder in this book: layered and gorgeous, gauzy and fantastical bits of Mary's imagination combined with beautiful details of the items Mary has gathered to make her art.The thorough and in-depth author's note in the back gives more information about Mary Nohl, how she was viewed when she was alive, and what is happening with her house.I recommend this book if you're interested in showing kids an example of seeing art everywhere, how to make art from the objects around you, and how to be true to yourself and your creative vision.

It followed a real life artist that began creating sculptures out of cement and the various items she found on the lakeshore. The creations she made are definitely devicive in that some people see the beauty in them as primitive yet friendly looking monsters. While others (her neighbors) seem to see them as bad for the neighborhood. The book then shows the importance of expressing yourself no matter what is happening around you and no matter what people think of your art. there is a nice summary of the artist and her work at the end of the book. Though I am not personally a huge fan of her work, both my daughter and myself were pleased with this book and this artist as another in a long line of artist following their passion. Pretty cool book.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ARE CONTAINED IN THE REVIEWLeafpool seems to have given up on Crowfeather. She has a new job to be part-time mentor of RiverClan's medicine cat apprenticeBrambleclaw has shown whose side he is on. He became deputy to Firestar, when Firestar realized Graystripe was dead(He isn't, but ah well, can't tell the cats that ;) ) He had a hunger for power during the whole book, but it didn't bother him at the end, where he had the choice to kill Firestar to be leader, but he doesn't, and kills his brother instead. Exciting! But the poor cat is left with horror at the end.Cinderpelt in fact has not died, but has been "reincarnated" in one of Sorreltail's kits. Creepy, but nice, the wonderful cat is still alive!I guess even the author that kills all the "cute cats" (if you read the innterview you'd understand) couldn't give her up for good. xDAshfur was horribly bitter about the Squirrelflight/Brambleclaw relationship. Which leads me to believe he was responsible for the treachury caused at the end of the book. Which is sad, cuzhe was cool in the 5th book. From the sample chapter for "The Sight" at the end of the book. It refers that the "kin of the kin" is reffered to Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw's three kits, that they apparently had during the six month period betwen the book. (Their names are Hollypaw, Lionpaw, and Jaypaw) And they are apparently prophecied to have great power)That's it, I guess. VERY GOOD BOOK! I reccomend reading it even if you saw all the main parts of this review.

15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Better Than Expected By A Customer The sixth installment of Warriors: The New Prophecy #6: Sunset, was much better than I expected. Sunset included many different subplots and old charecters not brought up in Twighlight that completed the New Prophecy. Tigerstar was eager to get revenge on Firestar through his kits and was able to walk in their dreams to convince them power is everything. In the end, when Brambleclaw is given the chance to kill Firestar, he shows to waiting readers where his loyalties truly lie. As for Firestars kits, Squirrleflight makes her decision on the cat that she wishes would be her mate and Leafpaw deals with the troubles of her friend Mothwing and her new apprentice Willowpaw. The new series of Warriors, The Power Of Three, looks very good and I can't wait!

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. the 6th NP book!!! by Wildfur By A Customer OMG!!! i heart it x100!after the badger attack, leafpool decides to help mothwing mentor her apprentice willowpaw because mothwing doesnt believe in StarClan. later, spottedleaf shows leafpool a terrible secret about mothwing and hawkfrost, convincing leafpool that for sure hawkfrost cannot be trusted. meanwhile squirrelflight and brambleclaw rekindle their- er, relationship leaving ashfur incredibly bitter. also cloudtail spends tons of time with daisy and her kits, making brightheart sad and leafpool and brambleclaw get mad. o and one of sorreltail's kits looks exactly like cinderpelt! amazingg firestar also accepts that graystripe is dead and appoints brambleclaw as deputy! and at the very end, brambleclaw is given an opportunity (by tigerstar and hawkfrost) to kill firestar and become thunderclan's leader. so brambleclaw has to choose between loyalty and ambition, just like tigerstar, except tigerstar chose ambition. wat will brambleclaw choose? and the ominous prophecy "before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red" is fullfilled. its also sort of an abrupt ending, so.. we'll have to wait for the new series Power of Three! then we'll find out wat tigerstar's spirit does to brambleclaw and the destiny of brambleclaws and squirrelflights children jaypaw hollypaw and lionpaw

It's probably not for really young children, the Game of Thrones part of the story should make that obvious, but it's not too over the top and is quite acceptable for most kids. The characters are likeable and I like how the story switches between points of view. I will read the rest.

They are always on the lookout for any good deeds they could do for their family, friends and neighbors. The children were on their way attending to their daily duties, when they encounter a neighbor, David carrying a bucket of paint. “What are you going to do Uncle David?” asked little Tracy inquisitively. “I am going to paint my fence children” answered Uncle David, adding “I could do with some help”

By Shanible This ebook was enjoyed by my Kindergartener. There are cute little illustrations accompanied by most of the pages that relates to what is going on in the story. Mostly, this ebook aims to encourage children to do good deeds. At the end there is a single line that advocates Scouting itself. The verbiage for the book is easy enough for peers of my child's age, with a few more sophisticated words. The ebook was read to me by my child with only a few understandable questions on how to pronounce words or their definition. I can see a 1st or 2nd grader reading this without any issue at all. As for the way the ebook is written itself, it feels like it was not proofed beforehand. I almost feel like this was written by someone who does not speak English as their first language or rather, it was translated into English using a free translator app.I really did not like the part of the story where the scouts discovered a baby bird on the ground. The baby bird and nest were then moved to another location by the scouts. In the story, the mother bird "understands" the children will not harm the bird and is happy about the move. Whether the age old tale of mother birds deserting their young is true or not, I would never encourage my young child to do such a thing! I was horrified this ebook implied this was a wise thing for the scouts to do. My child was equally upset about this part, as I have taught her to never touch a nest or baby bird and she knows better than to think a mother bird would be thankful to her for doing such. While the ebook was not amazing, it was not terrible. My child liked reading it and felt very accomplished having done so. I personally feel like the premise of the ebook is simply to instill morals and good behavior, but the overtone of scouts advertising is significant.I received this book without compensation, but with a discount using my iPhone to read the ebook. I had no problem at all getting it to load using the kindle app. It displayed instantly after purchasing and loaded perfectly in landscape mode. The discount in no way altered my opinion and I was not asked to give a good review in return. I am also not associated with the seller or publisher in any way. I found the phrasing rather strange and the punctuation lacking. I was distracted from the story because of the unusual way of stating certain situations. This book needs a good editor.

He is a Cub Scout so he enjoyed reading about these adventures of the Scouts. All the helpful things they did along their journey. It helps kids learn about helping and doing things for others. I really enjoyed reading this book to my son and recommend it as a little read. It was perfect for him. It was not too short and not too long. It was split up with different little sections of the helpful adventures the Scouts had along their way. Splitting it up into chapters helps young children when reading or even being read to. Will definately be finding more short reads like this one for us to read together. Every designer has had to justify designs to non-designers, yet most lack the ability to explain themselves in a way that is compelling and fosters agreement. The ability to effectively articulate design decisions is critical to the success of a project, because the most articulate person often wins. This practical book provides principles, tactics, and actionable methods for talking about designs with executives, managers, developers, marketers, and other stakeholders who have influence over the project with the goal of winning them over and creating the best user experience.

Articulating Design Decisions: Communicate with Stakeholders, Keep Your Sanity, and Deliver the Best User Experience, by Tom Greever

Review Christian Manzella, VP of UX & Design at Moz "It's too easy for designers to fall into vernacular and unintentionally obscure what they're really trying to say. Tom's book creates an easy-to-use and wonderful framework for communicating design in plain language, increasing the likelihood that stakeholders will understand what you're presenting."Tim O'Reilly, Founder and CEO, O'Reilly Media "Articulating Design Decisions by Tom Greever will change the way designers talk about design. Get it, read it." twitter.com/timoreilly/status/655137807669702656Aaron Irizarry, Director of UX at Nasdaq & author of Discussing Design"Tom has done a great job tackling one of the more difficult aspects of design... taking to others who aren't designers and sharing the how and why of the design decisions that you made."Richard Banfield, CEO of Fresh Tilled Soil and author of Design Leadership"While most books on design mention these communication issues as a sidebar or a footnote, Tom gives us an entire book of tried and tested tools to make designers expert communicators. True to its title it is easy to read and even easier to recommend. As the principle of a UX design firm I'm thrilled that Tom has given us this gem of a book."

From the Back Cover Talking to people about your designs might seem like a basic skill, but it can be difficult to do efficiently and well. And, in many cases, how you communicate about your work with stakeholders, clients, and other non-designers is more critical than the designs themselves--simply because the most articulate person usually wins. This practical guide focuses on principles, tactics, and actionable methods for presenting your designs. Whether you design UX, websites, or products, you'll learn how to win over anyone who has influence over the project--with the goal of creating the best experience for the end user.

  • Walk through the process of preparing for and presenting your designs
  • Understand stakeholder perspectives, and learn how to empathize with them
  • Cultivate both implicit and explicit listening skills
  • Learn tactics and formulas for expressing the most effective response to feedback
  • Discover why the way you follow through is just as crucial as the meeting itself

A must addition to any designer's toolkit By Adriana De La Cuadra As designers we know designing should be an iterative process and this book delves into teaching how to navigate this process by improving your communication skills. I specially liked the idea of keeping in mind the human side of the design practice: we are not only designing for human, we are also humans creating the designs. Therefore we need to truly connect with the people that will make possible those designs. This connection is what can enable us to work as a team and produce the best user experiences.Plus the book is a joy to read as it combines great story telling and practical advice. Highly recommended!

It's approachable and casual while maintaining an intelligent and authoritative air, which is exactly the kind of thing Tom is encouraging all designers (or anyone interacting with stakeholders really) to do.ADD goes from personal anecdote, to practical advice, and back. This makes the reading interesting, the information helpful, and the ways to apply his experiences and subsequent take-aways to your own life/career a straightforward process. The information Tom provides in this book feels so obvious and intuitive. Yet while reading it, I found myself realising I was only practicing half or so of the techniques he suggests, despite years of experience working with a wide range of clients. The things I did already know and do mindfully, I found validating to see someone else express in a published book. A great way to shore up some confidence, and build upon that foundation.Overall, this is a great book. It's easy to read. It's not about the nitty-gritty of technical design process. It's a higher-level book that discusses concepts and techniques that will help you be a better person and a better designer to work with. After all, no one works in a vacuum (except vacuum repairmen and astronauts).

I keep two physical copies in the house and one next to the seat of my car. Of course, I also keep the digital version with me in my Kindle app and even purchased a PDF version from O'Reilly to use on my iPad Pro so I can write in the margins all of the inspirational thoughts induced by reading the book. I even make it a point to read every footnote, highlighting the ones that really stand out to me, for better understanding of the context. I find that when I don't read even just a couple of paragraphs of this book each day I fall into the temptations of not articulating my design decisions as well, or even at all. As an amateur designer turned developer, I feel like it has helped me to not only better communicate with stakeholders in projects in which I'm involved, but also has given me methods, vocabulary, and a better angle for speaking with designers.
