About the Author

Ruth Wodak is Distinguished Professor of Discourse Studies at Lancaster University. Her research interests focus on discourse studies; identity politics; racism, antisemitism and other forms of discrimination; and on ethnographic methods of linguistic field work. She was awarded the Wittgenstein Prize for Elite Researchers in 1996 and an Honorary Doctorate from University of Örebro in Sweden in 2010. She has held visiting professorships in University of Uppsala, Stanford University, University Minnesota, University of East Anglia, and Georgetown University (Washington, DC). She is a member of the British Academy of Social Sciences and a member of the Academia Europaea.  In 2008, she was awarded the Kerstin Hesselgren Chair of the Swedish Parliament (at University Örebrö).

Ruth is co-editor of the SAGE journal Discourse & Society, and of the journals Critical Discourse Studies and Journal of Language and Politics. However, says an e-supplement available on their website [...] with updated tax developments since publication. However, can only find 2015 supplement (for tax year 2014) posted on site, not 2016. Since many Federal tax law extensions were passed in December, without this update, publication usefulness is questionable for many situations. Other publishers have updates available- may want to check this before ordering.

I own a kindle fire 1st gen.The book itself--meaning the content--seems fantastic. The problem is that the Kindle edition leaves something to be desired. Unfortunately, the tables are a little bit off and for some reason I have to swipe through the same page more than 10 times to get it to move to the actual next page. The first time it did this, I thought, "Meh...these things happen in book conversions." But, this multi-swiping of pages has happened roughly six or seven times already, and I'm only on the third chapter. It has made reading the book a bit of a chore, something that I'm sure the author never intended. It is probably a better idea to get the old-fashioned paper copy until this gets worked out. I do believe it is worth investing in the book. In the meantime, I'm hoping Amazon will allow me a paper copy.

There is no better inexpensive tool than this to answer 90% of tax questions, even some fairly complicated ones. I've been using it for 3 decades. Just don't tell my clients that I pay so little for quality answers! It's a trade secret.

Little Blue Truck is my toddler's all-time favorite book. When I happened upon this larger version I knew we had to have it. I've purchased larger books before and been disappointed in the quality. Often times the pages are thinner, the images aren't as clear or bright, and the book overall is just not as durable. That is absolutely not the case here.This book is literally the exact same book in a larger size. Same thickness of pages, same rich illustrations, same durability (which is not to say it's invincible as my toddler is currently loving to death his second copy of the original book). I have attached a few photos of the lap book next to one of our copies of the original Little Blue Truck so you can see just how much larger this one is. My son's eyes lit up and his mouth came open as soon as he saw this book and it has been his go-to ever since. As much as he enjoyed flipping the pages of the original, I can tell he takes even more delight in turning the pages of this larger book and seeing the huge illustrations.We couldn't be happier with this product. It's a great story about being kind to others and reaping the benefits of kindness and friendship told in a most adorable way. I highly recommend this book!

We had the smaller version that she adored, but I figured she would like this better. The larger pictures really brings out the details, we point out all the animals and she mimics their sounds.We've kept the smaller one in the car, for travel time reading.

Mustache Baby Meets His Match is hilarious and yet it teaches some good lessons as well. That is a skill that few writers seem to possess and I am so glad that this book was written. It is a fun book for children - of all ages and just as cute as possible. My gang loves the mustache baby and we have enjoyed this adventure with him very much. This is a good book and does belong in school libraries and classrooms for sure. Five stars.

Protecting Emilie - a must read for parents fighting custodial injustice By Kristina Clements Protecting Emilie is a an eye opening book into the struggles brought on by the failure of our court system to truly protect children who are victims of one parent alienating the child from the other parent. This book reveals how parental alienation destroys the emotional development of innocent children. You will feel a true call to action after reading the story of Emilie and see how Florida Family Law failed her so miserably. I found the book to be extremely engaging, read it in two days, and have thought about what it revealed every day since. Protecting Emilie is a must read for anyone seeking just custodial rights and finding their innocent child stuck in a drama they don't deserve.

I applaud the author's love for her step-daughter and desire not just to hope that things will be better for other children and families but also the determination to document it and bring the truth to light. Ms Heim recounts in this book a 10 year struggle with one court appearance after another that fail to protect the innocent from abuse. I really appreciate the work put in to this book and found it so intriguing and shocking I could not put it down.

Not for naive children at all By Dr Jacques COULARDEAU The illustrations are interesting, delicate but definitely quaint and past-oriented, a very English past for the English colonizers and a very native and exotic past for the Indians. But the colors are sweet and soft. That's the best attraction of the book.The story line is the same as that of Pocahontas Wight Edmunds (1956) who stayed in a tradition that this story here represents. Nothing new in this book whose text is extremely short and thus very sketchy.But this book carries an ideology that is very irritating. It is openly racist against the Indians who are described as "stealthy redskins", "in their fiercest and most hideous war paints and trappings", "so many demons", etc. On the other side the English are "a band of pioneers and adventurers in search of gold, [coming] to take possession of the broad lands of America".And yet the courageous John Smith when he fell in an ambush protects himself in the worst and most cowardly way possible "holding his Indian guide in front of him, as a buckler", "shielding himself with the guide".These invading adventurers are shown as luminous and absolutely justified in their attempt because they "formed a new nation, the United States of America". That was a book for children. Today it is a book for very well educated and very critical adults.Do not entrust it to your kids without a long exchange and discussion with them.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Tough, interesting topic handled in a genteel, calm way. By Just Trying to Help So I have four kids. And I review a lot of children's books. And these books generally fall into three categories:1) Books that I don't recommend to my kids2) Books that I do recommend to my kids3) Books that I recommend that my kids actually read.Jacqueline Davies books tend to fall in category 3. Her work is really good, and I've read 3 of her stories in the Lemonade War series. I haven't read the first two books, but I'll probably buy them.The Magic Trap is another book really well done by Mrs. Davies. Where she covered mental problems in both young and old in the Bell Bandit, and puppy love in the Candy Smash. she now covers ... um... "poor parenting" in the Magic Trap.In this book, the kids wayward father finally shows up and Mom heads off on an out of state trip. So we get a completely different look at the Treski household. This is very well done, I think, and the kids show a lot of pluck and resolve as their Dad takes what seems to be a small risk and ends up leaving the kids to ride out a hurricane alone. And the kids give a great magic show in the process, both with and without their Dad's help.Lately there has been a style in kids books to have sidebars where you explain other things that are interesting. In the Magic Trap, Davies includes a lot of information about magic tricks, from both the observer's point of view and the magicians. There are diagrams, discussions, and things like that. These parts are informative and interesting in a non-fiction kind of way. Two of my kids are really interested in sleight of hand type tricks and I think they will really enjoy those parts. And I think Ms. Davies has done a great job of balancing those non fiction parts with the story.Ms. Davies doesn't beat up Mr. Treski too bad for his abandonment, I think she could have admonished him a bit more. But Evan does get to "have his say" with his Dad and tell his Dad what a poor job he's doing as a father, and I guess that suffices.I also like how Jess misses Evan because Evan is growing up, and doesn't spend much time with her any more. Its a continuing theme in the books I've read, and I think the character interaction is excellent.I would have to say that Ms. Davies is becoming one of my favorite children's authors, she always does a great job of tackling a tough, hot topic in a very genteel, calm way.

Satisfying Conclusion to a Great Book Series By VReviews ‘The Magic Trap’ is the fifth & final book in the Jacqueline Davies Lemonade War series. ‘The Lemonade War’ was the first book in the series and was originally planned to be a stand alone novel. ‘The Lemonade Crime’ is the second of the series, which Davies was compelled to write because of the onslaught of letters she received from her fans demanding more on the story revolving around Evan, Jessie, Scott and Megan. The third in the series, ‘The Bell Bandit’ took place during Winter Break, away from Jessie and Evan’s 4th grade class. The fourth book, ‘The Candy Smash’, continued Jessie and Evan’s 4th grade year back in the classroom in February for poetry writing and Valentines, with plenty of elementary school drama and laughs. ‘The Magic Trap’ takes place at the end of Jessie and Evan’s fourth grade year, and brings together the key elements of friends & family that have grounded each book in the series.There are some key elements that make The Lemonade War Series so successful. Namely the interaction between Evan, and his little sister Jessie who skipped a grade, ending up in Evan’s 4th grade class. The dialogue is entertaining and true to life. The conflicts and successes are authentic, providing young readers plenty of connections to their own lives.In addition, The Lemonade War, Crime, and Candy Smash books had strong stories that were built around a concept delineated by the chapter titles. For ‘The Lemonade War” each chapter started with an economics term (perfect for young readers to learn about producers and consumers and the market place). ‘The Lemonade Crime’ chapters started with legal terms, teaching young readers about the court system, lawyers, and defendants, and ‘The Candy Smash’, chapters and plot centered around literary terms such as onomatopoeia, primary source, copyright, and smash. The one oddball book #3 was ‘The Bell Bandit’, which suffered for not having this same over-arching concept to build around. Fortunately, Davies returned to this format in ‘The Candy Smash’, and kept with it for ‘The Magic Trap’.In ‘The Magic Trap’ each chapter is framed by a magic word such as, illusion, sleight of hand, gimmick, and conjuring. So in each chapter a magic word is defined, and then it is literally, and many times metaphorically, woven into the events in Jessie and Evan’s lives. ‘The Magic Trap’ deals with some tough issues that many kids can relate to. At the start of the series, we learn that the Treski’s have gone through divorce affecting each person differently. In ‘The Magic Trap’ the consequences of divorce come full circle, hitting straight on the issues of loneliness, frustration, rejection, and abandonment. But in true Treski fashion, we also see a family pulling together, taking on responsibility, and standing tall. Along the way, friendship and community and a strong dose of laughter come together to build a realistic and satisfying conclusion to this wonderful series. For these reasons, ‘The Magic Trap’ is thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining, and is a great concluding book to The Lemonade War Series.

My oldest daughter, who is now 13, read The Lemonade War when she was in the 4th grade Battle of the Books. Now my youngest daughter, who is now in 4th grade, gets to read all of the books in this series including this title. The main characters of the series and this book are Jessie and Evan Treski, siblings who live with their mother in their maternal grandmother's house. Their parents are divorced, and the father is somewhat out of the picture.The main theme of this story centers around magic as a hobby of Evan's. He has mastered several tricks and has put on small shows. Evan found a very old book about magic in their grandmother's book collection in the basement. From there the story takes off into very imaginative places. This story reminds me of a series my now-thirteen year old daughter read when she was in 4th grade or so, The Magic Tree House series. If your child likes those books, they will like this book. This story gives factual information on the main subject; magic, and it is a great way to learn more about magic. I love how each chapter is titled, and then there is a dictionary definition of the word. Right now I'm getting my 4th grader to look up words in an actual dictionary whenever she doesn't know a word. She reads a lot, and apparently doesn't look anything up if she doesn't know what it means. I intend to change her ways over the summer! My daughter enjoyed reading this book for me, and I did as well. I don't know how many more books in this series there will be, but it could go on for a while. Enjoy!

About the Author Patrick Felicia is a lecturer and researcher at Waterford Institute of Technology, where he teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students. By John Vanderbeck Honestly this book is pretty useless for all but the most raw absolute newcomer to Unity, and even then you can get up and running to this book's level in a few hours from existing tutorials.This book is apparently only the first in a longer series, and this first book doesn't cover much more than installing Unity and building levels using preexisting content. There is no scripting, at all. No discussion of architecture, no real game logic of any significant kind.Maybe this is my fault for not reading the details well enough, but in the end this book was useless for me.

Too many errors By Carlos Trujillo Full of errors, the book contradicts itself too many times, one page say something next one says the opposite, for example position 713 states that Unity uses a left handed coordinate system then in position 1016 says right handed; very basic thing like instruct you to do a zoom in when the intention is to do a zoom out, and is full of this kind of elemental error; very bad bad review of the author/editor before publishing to catch this kind of mistakes; on the other hand, is toooo basic and short in scope, you probably be better with some introduction free tutorial over internet.

The contents are deliberately set to be easily comprehensible and followed, so the readers would be afforded to establish the fundamental confidence towards building digital games from ZERO. This is particularly true for professionals in the field of education and training who have zero skills, or worse, phobia towards digital technologies, such as school teachers, university or college lecturers and business trainers.Like effective game design, quick wins and easy start are essential to get learners engage in playing a game. Human beings naturally love mastery of knowledge and skills, and this book serves this purpose well. Nevertheless, it is important to get the subsequent books out quickly because the effects of mastery might fade off over time--defeating the strength of this book. I look forward to reading and conquering the challenges set by upcoming levels of this book series.
