About the Author Kate Louise is a YA and children’s book author. She recently graduated from university with a first-class BA (honors) degree in fine art painting. Her first picture book, The Upside-Down Fish, publishes in early 2015 (Sky Pony Press). She lives with her family, her partner, and a cocker spaniel named Freddie in Cheshire, England.Bethany Straker is an illustrator of picture books and magazines. Her work often leans toward the humorous and has been described as “somewhere between the stylings of a Steve Fiorilla and a Mike Judge series” (filmmonthly.com). She enjoys the little visual details that others may not notice, loves drawing the grotesque, and champions the underdog. She has illustrated numerous children’s books, including Smelly Ghost, A Curious Robot on Mars!, Springy Chicken, The Spotty Dotty Daffodil, and more. She lives with her husband and dog, Alf, in Kent, England.

By BeatleBangs1964 This is an ideal Earth Day book together with Tom Chapin's stellar classic "Happy Earth Day to You."Pierre is an adorable little French bulldog who takes recycling very seriously. The smart little dog realizes he inadvertently threw recyclable materials into the trash can instead of the recycle bin. The spirited little bulldog chases the garbage truck for quite a distance determined to retrieve anything that belongs in recycle.The eco-friendly little dog is a delightful character who reinforces the importance of being earth friendly. Pierre and company travel down the Long & Winding Road to get to the landfill and prevent reusable materials from going in. It's a lovely little story that doesn't beat readers over the head with the importance of being eco-conscious and Pierre is such a treat. This is a book all ages are sure to enjoy and the spirited little French bulldog makes a good thing even better.

Pierre learns too late from the talking recycling bin that he could have recycled the plastic bottle and newspaper he through in the trash. When he realizes he threw those items in the regular garbage, he is a pup on a mission! He chases down the garbage truck to hunt down the recyclables and return them to the proper bin, rather than allow them to enter the landfill. Pierre is an eco-conscious dog, and having this sort of moral code is unique -not only for a pup- but for any children’s book character! The storyline takes many strange twists and turns as the dogs have to run through markets and museums to get to the garbage dump, but in the end the importance of being green and recycling is key. The illustrations by Bethany Straker are cartoony and comical. This is one illustrator who you can tell loves to draw messy scenes and drooling dogs, because her pictures are delightfully fun and fresh. As a scientist who understands just how important it is to be eco-conscious, it’s refreshing to see a story like this told, so thank you to the author, Kate Louise!
