This review first appeared on my blog, Christy's Cozy Corners.Brush your Hair, Medusa is one of the latest board books in the Mini Myths series written by Joan Holub and illustrated by Leslie Patricelli. I love books that encourage learning while still being entertaining. I started reading to my children while they were still in the womb! I say it is never too early to cultivate a love of reading.Board books are a great way for little ones to enjoy books without you having to worry about them tearing out the pages. Books are meant to be handled after all! What is the fun of being a little kid yet not able to look at your own books? And this Mini Myth about Medusa is one your little ones will love to look at on their own. The illustrations are vibrant and the text is so simple that they’ll remember what you have read to them.Medusa doesn’t want to brush her hair, but grandma is on her way! What will she think of Medusa’s messy messy hair?! Medusa doesn’t care! She’d rather brush her doll’s hair! You will get a kick out of these illustrations and how they fit right in with the myth. The bonus information about the myth of Medusa will make this a great resource as your child grows. I definitely recommend this series!

She likes to show off her somersaults. But she DOESN’T like to brush her hair! She did rather brush her little toy mermaid’s hair.. but not hers!Uh Oh! Its the door bell ringing and grand ma is here! And Medusa STILL hasn’t had her hair brushed!“Make a wish, Midas” and “Brush your hair, Medusa” are the second installment in the Joan Holub and Leslie Patricelli’s Mini Myths series. Like the first two books, “Be Patient, Pandora” and ” Play nice, Hercules”, this set of books are loosely based on two mythical characters, King Midas and Medusa. An author’s back note gives us a brief background on the actual mythological story surrounding the characters. As with the earlier books, Joan Holub’s simple short words and sentences are perfect for a toddler read aloud story. Leslie Patricelli well known for her colorful toddler books “Yummy, Yuck” is a natural fit for the Mini Myth set.DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of the above books from the publishers for an honest opinion. I have NOT received any compensation for this review. All reviews and opinions are entirely my own.

I particularly loved the look on Grandma's face when she walked in the door and saw her hair.Although the real Medusa's hair was said to be made of snakes, I liked that the author and illustrator did not make it that way but instead just wild. However, the hint of the snakes was still in the pages but not as frightening. As with the last two toddler board books from this series, she incorporated the myth in the back of the book which could be read by parent or an older child.DIsclosure: I received a copy of this book for my open and honest opinion.
