It is clear, concise, and to the point. My need was to clearly understand the use of a micro SDXC card. This guide addressed the issue in depth, and I learned that the utility of micro memory was much more versitile than I hoped. Also, the installation instructions were very clear and concise. I strongly recommend this guide for new HD 8-10 owners. My HD 8 arrives tomorrow, anb, now, I know exactly what to do.

Although, I am only half way through it at this time, it offers many detailed instructions and tips not thoroughly explained in the User Guide that comes on this device. Btw, I printed it so I can highlight and tab the pages there were useful to me. The author did a great job, and this book is very well written.

However this book did not cover how to customize and delete/hide items that come with the fire tablet. For those few of us that don't want to have calculator (for example) on the home page, there is no information on how to delete them. The book could have been a bit more comprehensive in that way. Overall a good quick informative book on the basics. Thank you.

She knows that her mother has left her to become a hippie but doesn't have a clear picture of why or what being hippie really means. Julia's life changes drastically when her grandmother dies the next day. The girl's beloved home and all its contents are sold, and she and Aunt Constance leave New York's Hudson Valley to find Julia's mother. They set out in a station wagon jammed packed with the family's "essential" things for travel, including a silver tea set, candlestick, and an assortment of furs and other finery. These are the things, Aunt Constance tells her, that make them Lancasters. Their search takes them on an adventure around the country, and Julia's world broadens with each stop. She sees exactly what hippies are in Greenwich Village; in New Orleans they confer with a voodoo priestess who counsels them that they will see Julia's mother but not find her. In Texas, they enjoy the hospitality of a rancher with a staff of Chinese cowboys, and on through the southwest, where they meet the sheriff and only resident of a deserted gold-mining town. Each character is delightful and quirky, and readers will enjoy all of them. The story comes to a somewhat predictable conclusion, but it hardly matters. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Blume is one of the most amazing, inspiring By Cator Sparks Clearly Miss Khek (rhymes with Shmek!) doesn't understand the BRILLIANCE of this book. Ms. Blume is one of the most amazing, inspiring, witty writers around and this book is equally addictive for kids as it is for adults who want to put down their phones and be swept away to Miss Julia's fantasy land. Spreading Oriental carpets on lawns, finding funny names of American cities on maps and ladies with pounds of white face powder are just some of the magical moments that make this book perfect for a day in the hammock or an alternate universe while trudging though another day in the cubicle. Bravo Blume! I'll never look at America the same way. And that's a good thing.

I so valued finding a really literary middle grade novel with smart, adventurous characters. Lesley MM Blue is a jewel of a writer, and Julia is a character that so many girls will identity with, particularly the creative, slightly different ones--like my own 8 year old daughter. We read it aloud, and we will read every book that Ms. Blume publishes!

She received it as a gift on her birthday because her name is Julia. We loved the book. We read a chapter a night then talked about the plot/characters and she asked questions about words she did not understand. It was a great book that pushed her reading limits. Loved it!

By Stacie Bookhagen I used to have these books as a little girl (I am 30 now). I wanted to order this because I loved them and I thought my 2 year old would too. She loves them! I love first and third book especially, because the first one explains taking care of a new baby (her sister is 6 months) and the last one talks about what work moms do (I am a fulltime working mom). I loved these books and still do! Beware though, they are older, like from the 60’s I think, so the first two books do assume the mom stays home with the kids and cooks and cleans while the dad goes to work! Also, it is 3 books in one so your toddler might insist you keep reading them all!!!

By MizShine This was a good story, but it didn't have a good buildup with a powerful ending...I was kind of left hanging about what was this all about. One thing I really liked, however, was that it was told from the perspective of 10-year old Alan. In the end I was left with a lot to wonder and think about. To say that God is magical is an understatement. We won't find magic in witchcraft or other occult activities, but we can find the power of God as we go about our every day living....God does make a difference in one's life as evidenced by Alan's mother (an alcoholic) and his friend Zak (a follower and wanna-be magician).

It accurately illustrates the end of elementary school time when kids that were the best of friends sometimes drift apart because of different interests, but can still remain friendly. My son was experiencing a similar situation and this helped validate his feelings. I highly recommend this book to kids in the transition from elementary to middle school.

Even mermaids and the beach couldn't trick my five year old into thinking the story was great By mamamica My now five year old daughter and I have been collecting and loving Pinkalicious' adventurous books for about a year and a half now. So I couldn't resist adding this newest release to her collection for her 5th birthday, in the same week!I don't love it, and I think my daughter was expecting more too. The beachy theme is fun, the "merminnie" named Aqua is imaginative and cute. But there's just not enough substance to the book. The storyline falls flat. Unlike most of Pinkalicious' stories, Pinkalicious & Peter don't learn much of anything here, there's no moral of the story or lesson learned. Just a little part of a day at the beach where mom & dad fell asleep sunbathing and they met a merminnie and played for a while. We were definitely expecting more from this one.

The writing is clunky, there's no moral or teachable moment or even an entertaining punchline, and the plot is just a series of pointless non-sequiturs. I gave it 2 stars because art is pretty, and my 2.5 year old loves this book. But she also enjoys "reading" furniture catalogs. I've hidden it on a high shelf because I can't bear being asked to read it one more time.

Fans of Pinkalicious will again be pleased By Helpful Advice ‘Aqualicious’ written and illustrated by Victoria Kann is another installment in author’s known and long-lasting ‘Pinkalicious’ series of books for children.For those who follow Kann series for a longer time this latest sequel would be another typical story about beloved Pinkalicious character who this time, together with her family, goes for an exciting beach trip, in order to enjoy sandy beach activities and sun. And though the day was passing well, the things would get even more exciting when our young heroine while searching for shells will find Aqua, a small mermaid. Aqua wants to go home, therefore both Pinkalicious and her brother Peter are going to help her…‘Pinkalicious’ series, probably because of its longevity, has a long time ago divided young readers (or better to say their parents) in two groups – those that can be considered as great fans and the others who just do not like this character. In that sense, latest Kann book is not different from all the previous ones, it’s made in same way using known author’s style of detailed digital illustrations full of colors combined with somehow quirky writing.In my opinion what this series of picture books is lacking in general are some ‘stronger’ messages to be conveyed to young readers, although there were attempts with some earlier picture books to, for example, speak in a bit different way about need to protect the environment.On the other hand, its attractive visual appearance makes up for the deficiency of theme so the final product is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, nothing special, yet pleasant to the eye.So if your child is a fan of Pinkalicious, you will again not miss with ‘Aqualicious’ especially because of a nice little mermaid kids are going to meet in this installment, while if you've never read Pinkalicious my recommendation would be to try some other title - there are so many great children books that provide nice lessons and offer inspiration to kids.

For almost every answer to every question I've looked for in this book, I've ended up having to Google the answer for it. It seems to be well written and I'm sure there are some folks who could be helped by it, just not me.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. lost 2 stars for missing some educational content By ScotFlower I like that the book teaches half past, quarter past, quarter to, etc. as those are typically harder phrases for a child to get. It also includes the digital times in the bottom right for comparison. You can check how you set the clock to the text as there is a small clock in the left side of the page spread. Also like that the clock can be used without opening the book so it can be used for quizzing on time or using in time projects.What I did not like was the book never taught that the short hand pointed to the hour and the long hand to the minutes and that hours are listed first etc. This seems like such basic things that I am surprised it was not outright taught in the text. Also did not teach am/pm, 24 hours in a day, etc. This is why the book lost 2 stars.Also, our family schedule (and no one else's I know about) matches the book's times in any way... I work evenings so our entire schedule starts at 9:30 am not 7am. My friends work during the regular workday, so they get up between 5-6am. But, I understand the book had to choose a general schedule time-frame to reference to... so its only a minor issue. But it is something you should be aware of - that the schedule will not match whatever you do at home.

My 7 year old wanted a clock to move for telling time and now she enjoys reading this book to her little sister and being able to use the clock as a toy on its own with the book closed.

Doyli Shows Kids Can Make a Difference By Stephanie Golightly Lowden “The Yagua Indian man crept through the Amazon rain forest…hunting a family of red howler monkeys. If he was successful, his family would eat meat that day. If not, they would go hungry.”When Cathleen Burnham’s family took a vacation in the Amazon, it was just the beginning of a longer story about how kids can save a little part of the world. As her family traveled down the Amazon River , Burnham spotted a hut surrounded by playful monkeys. When the tour guide told them “The family that lives there takes in orphaned…monkeys,” she begged to visit. Once there, they met Doyli, a ten-year old girl, who helps save baby monkeys and release them back into the wild.How the three stories of the Yagua, the American and the young girl intersect gives the reader a fascinating look into the lives of the people of the Amazon rain forest. Doyli lives in Peru , as does the hunter. He must feed his family, but when he kills a mother monkey he finds a baby left behind. He takes the youngster to Doyli, knowing that the young girl will feed and shelter the baby until he is old enough to be set free.What I found important about this book is the writer does not judge the Yagua hunter. He must feed his family, that is a given. But he understands that when a mother monkey is killed and a baby left behind, the cycle of life must be protected. He knows that with Doyli, there is shelter for the young monkey.There is, however, a dark side to the story. One day, Doyli and her uncle visit the public market, where Doyli spots a man selling a baby monkey. She knows that thieves kill monkey parents and then take the babies to sell at the market. Doyli tells her uncle and he informs the police. The man is arrested and the baby he was trying to sell is given to Doyli to be cared for.This is a beautifully photographed book with an important story that shows readers you don’t have to be a grown-up to make a difference. In the author’s note, Burnham explains that there is an organization, the World Association of Kids and Animals (WAKA), that shares the stories of children, like Doyli, who are helping to protect animals all over the world. Burnham says she’s interviewed many children with stories similar to Doyli. By Renee @ Mother Daughter Book Reviews My son's review - he's 8!This book is about a girl, Doyli, who saves monkeys in the Amazon forest in Peru. There is also lots information and pictures that show what life is like in the Amazon forest. The photos were good and the monkeys were adorable. My favorites were the ones of the animals and the forest. I really liked the part where the monkey thief gets caught by the police and they put him in jail. I liked learning about Doyli and how she rescues monkeys.It seems like living in the Amazon can be dangerous because there are snakes and caimans and jaguars and that there are a lot of monkeys. They travel in canoes on the Amazon and they get their water from the Amazon. I also learned about how they are cutting down all of the trees in the Amazon and that is a very bad thing. The book also says that sometimes the kids can’t afford to go to school. That’s sad.It was a very interesting book. I like books about facts and especially books about animals, but I don’t like it when they mix facts with a story. I think monkeys would like this book – just kidding! I think kids who are young like, younger than me, and their parents would like this book (and people who like monkeys).

The poetry and the message is beautiful ("Peace is gratitude for simple things...."). The book presents many simple examples for ways that people can show concern and caring for each other (comforting each other, laughing together and enjoying each other's company, tending to those who are hurt or in need) in a very age appropriate way for young children (the beautiful illustrations show children walking away from a fight, comforting a younger sibling, hearing their mom/dad read a book). The book touches upon loss, grief, and sadness, without dwelling on it, by showing that even in the worst of times, "the helpers" are there if you look for them. There is always kindness and beauty mixed in with the sadness.One of my favorite books!

I don't usually purchase children's books online when they omit sample pages but I've taken a chance on this one and a few others recently and am happy I made that decision. The illustrations are colorful and appealing, the characters are very diverse and inclusive, and the message is simple and uplifting. It's not really a story with a plot; the emphasis is how to obtain peace within ourselves by helping and being there for others in a variety of ways. There are examples of small, tangible offerings (a muffin or peach), positive actions (spending time with others), and gratitude for simple things (a kiss on the cheek). There is a very brief mention of tragedy and ways we can still find peace in those difficult times.It's an exemplary and profound work that makes a perfect gift for those you care about.Aside from that, Amazon did not package this well and several of the items in this shipment were damaged from their negligence. This book had a minor tear on the outer cover but was otherwise in good condition. Some of the other books/products were not as lucky. If you are purchasing for a gift, you may want to be sure the rest of your order will be compatible with their subpar packaging.

This is a beautiful book with a beautiful theme of creating peace By Ann This is a beautiful book with a beautiful theme of creating peace, and seeing that being a peacemaker consists of many everyday actions. The illustrations are wonderful, and I love that the all the characters are of various races, ethnicities, backgrounds, etc. I bought it for my 5 year old niece, but after reading it I decided to wait to give it to her for another year or two. While the overall theme is a wonderful reflection on peace, there are a few pages in the middle that seemed a little heavy or dark, as they mention dealing with "tragedy" and "sorrow of your darkest hour" and "in the loss of a friend." This would be a great book for those children who are struggling to understand a violent occurrence or death, in that it doesn't dwell on those difficulties but mentions them briefly in the context of a larger understanding of peace. As a final note, I bought this book looking for a children's book with a Christian theme to give my God children. Though there is no mention of religion whatsoever, I found it consistent with progressive Christian views and values.

Stewart There are very few books that can be found that explain the trustee beneficiary relationship in terms that can be easily followed by readers who are not lawyers or otherwise involved as professionals in the trust industry. This is one of the few and that fact alone will make this a special and popular book. In theory it is often said that trusts are a relationship but what does that mean and how do you ensure that it is a good relationship? You could almost go as far as saying that Family Trusts, a Guide is a "relationship tool book" that aims to point the way to good relationships in the trust context and provides very practical actionable exercises and approaches. Because of this I actually see this as also being a book about the topic of family governance, because the relationship tools that it provides can be used in other situations where family members have to work with each other. Another area where the book is very up to date with international trusts practice is that it does talk in detail about the protector role and has useful suggestions on how to think about protectors. The discussion of the distribution function in trusts is new and innovative. I recommend the book to international readers who are involved in the structuring, & administration of trusts, as well as for trust settlors, beneficiaries and protectors, and of course trustees and trust officers.

After picnicking under a tree in a meadow, the animals "enjoyed games and races," prompting Tortoise to challenge Hare to a circular running race beginning and ending at the picnic tree. Hare takes the lead, stopping at a cottage garden to stuff himself with some tasty vegetables and fallen apples, followed up with a long drink at a nearby stream, a conversation with his friend Mr. Fox, and a rest under a sweet-smelling honeysuckle hedge. When Hare awakens to the sound of cheering animals, he races across the meadow to find that Tortoise has already won. Leaving just enough white space to soothe the eyes, Watts has filled much of each page with finely detailed meadow grasses, bushes, trees, and wildflowers and an assortment of dear, tiny animals, birds, and insects and their homes for children to find and treasure. The story begins with a morning scene featuring a beaming yellow sun and ends with a slumbering slice of the moon in a starry nighttime sky. Picnic scenes show cakes, cupcakes, and a tea set; squirrel and mole playing tennis; hedgehog reading a picture book to little hedgehog, rabbit, and bird.
