By Angela I enjoyed the storyline the most and thought it was most creative short story. It also had some neat kids type of pictures that I think the kids between ages 4-8 should enjoy a lot! It was funny yet true of what animals do whether they live in the ocean or on land do generally. I highly recommend this ebook for kids between the ages of 4-8 years of age and especially those who enjoy nature and animal stories. All of the reasons for giving this ebook five stars hasknow been shared in the above sentences of this review. I received this ebook for free and in exchange now I have given it an honest review.Super work Uncle Amon! By Angela

A new series of original graphic novels published in paperback with french flaps. This is the story of a traditional witch whose job has become redundant. She must find another line of work to keep the bats and familiars' tummies full so she winds up working as a Lunch Lady for the local elementary school. There she meets a girl who guesses her secret and tries to blackmail her. Both characters are likable and this is a warm feel-good story about friendship. I loved the dark, Goth-like art, which the publisher compares to Gorey but I'd say that's going a bit far (no-one compares to Edward Gorey!) It is a pleasant read with some light-hearted dark humour. Lots of fun!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Buy it for kids. Buy it for adults. By TONI LANSBURY I'd never thought about what job a witch might consider, if the world didn't believe in magic anymore. The Lunch Witch answers that question, and hilarity ensues. This book is adorable. From Grunhilda and her animal companions (I really want to adopt Grunhilda's dog), who help her look for employment so they don't starve, to the silly principal at the school she starts working at, this book engaged me from the first page. The illustrations make this story come alive, and the writing is fresh, and full of fun. I hope Grunhilda will be back. I already miss the dog!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very cool style By This Kid Reviews Books Synopsis- Grunhilda the Black Heart is a witch. She is a mean witch, too. But no one really believes in magic anymore, so she needs to find a job. After her job as a fake witch failed (she turned the boss into poop), she needed to find a new job. Grunhilda finds an ad looking for a school lunch lady and decided to try it out. And she loves it. The kids hate it. All was well. Well, until a girl who was going to fail the grade figures out that she’s a witch and tries to blackmail Grunhilda into using her witchcraft make her smart. Grunhilda says no. A couple of days later Grunhilda is serving lunch and sees the girl who’s been held back, standing in line. When the girl says that she’ll always be stupid, something resonates within Grunhilda from when she was in witch training. Can a witch have a change of heart? What I Liked- The overall tone of the story is very serious (language and pictures), but there is some great humor in this one. The humor and illustrations have an edge to them. The story is packed with “dry” humor (like the school lunch lady ad says “Good cooks need not apply”). The illustrations have a dark-creepy feel to them. I like how the book shows the gradual change in Grunhilda from a mean witch to a nice(ish) lady. The pages had an interesting look to them, like a kind of old-time wearing. I like how Grunhilda and the girl change each other over the course of the story. I also like how the ending has you wondering if Grunhilda really did have a change of heart. At 180 pages, this graphic novel has enough room to pack a great story into its pages. It looks like this will be an interesting series.*NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Ebook PDF Online The Girl with a Deer on a Lead: A Fable of Beauty for Adults (and teens), by Neil del Strother

This is a book of beauty and healing, of enchantment and love. It is the life-affirming story of Finn, who has given up on life, who barely eats, and his journeys into another world. There he meets his fate, to save the world and lose what he loves most or to destroy it and keep his love. It is his choice and our choice, a choice that may just change your life... This book is written primarily for adults but it is also appropriate for younger readers. It is not immediately easy to define its genre, perhaps it is best seen as a mix of magical realism and the work of writers such as St Exupery, Richard Bach, Paulo Coelho and Philip Pullman (while being nothing like any of them really!). The main thing is that it is a very entertaining read... An eg UK review: "I was drawn to pick this book up by its lovely cover image (oh, I shouldn't judge a book this way?) and without knowing anything about its content...- started to read. Many hours later I put it down again having been compelled to read it from cover to cover. .... I'm a total sucker for quest stories and this one has an intriguing mix of metaphysics and gritty (sometimes almost too gritty for my tastes) reality. It has enough mystery and suspense to keep you turning the pages, and won me over by including the powerful subjects of alchemy, the Hero's Journey, the Divine Masculine/Feminine wound, psychology - and generally what it means to heal the self and in so doing, heal the world (nothing minor then). A powerful and immensely readable "Faerie Tale" for grown ups and younger people too."

I had the privilege of proof reading it at the beginning of the year and at once I felt great compassion for Finn, who finds himself on a path of enlightenment into another world, leaving behind the traumas of his past. I was absolutely gripped to the very end by Neil's wonderfully woven words and his intricate and exciting plot and found it totally un-putdownable! In fact at once I knew I wanted to illustrate the cover, as his imagery, which is superbly described, resonates deeply with my own work. For me, it is the perfect collaboration. I am delighted to say that I will be designing his future books too, which is hugely exciting for me.Your words are just beautiful Neil, heart felt and soulful and I am so looking forward to the next!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great read By Thomas M. Walsh I could not put this book down. It made me cry. So sad to think about how this court system views parents rights as if children are property instead of people. Our system is set up to protect the parents, usually the wrong one, instead of protecting the innocent. Thank you for sharing your story.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing in so many ways. By Judy Not to smart of a mom in so many ways. To many excuses and to much left up to a young little girl. I could hardly keep reading constantly how she was always to fearful of the system and actually hard to believe.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Thought provoking.... By Misty I have very strong feelings about these books. On the one hand, I am immensely disappointed with both the author and her husband. I can't imagine the pain and frustration they must have felt. I admire them for taking their daughter out of harm's way. But, I can't imagine blindly accepting court orders and saying nothing to my child about the abuse. I get the logic and paranoia they were feeling-it was quite clear. But if your daughter was as gifted as you say, she could surely hear the truth and not say anything to anyone else. I was appalled that her father touched her again inappropriately and nothing was said. I understand they were young but I would have talked and gone higher until someone listened. In addition, I felt there were a lot of excuses for the mistakes they made. I would have respected it more had she fessed up and said she didn't think it through or she made the wrong decision.I also had such sympathy for Cheyenne. What she endured has a lasting effect and she was so brave, so strong, at such a young age. This book made me think and question the legal system, the child "protection" agencies and parent's abilities to function and make good decisions in times of such trauma. What I would have loved is to hear Cheyenne's story from her perspective with mom as a coauthor to fill in the gaps. Hopefully Cheyenne is getting the majority of the money from the books since without her, there is no story.

"Huge laughs and great science—the kind of smart, funny stuff that makes Jon Scieszka a legend." —Mac Barnett, author of Battle Bunny and The Terrible Two

More clever science experiments, funny jokes, and robot hijinks await readers in book two of the New York Times bestselling Frank Einstein chapter book series from the mad scientist team of Jon Scieszka and Brian Biggs. The perfect combination to engage and entertain readers, the series features real science facts with adventure and humor, making these books ideal for STEM education. This second installment examines the quest to unlock the power behind the science of "energy."

Kid-genius and inventor Frank Einstein loves figuring out how the world works by creating household contraptions that are part science, part imagination, and definitely unusual. In the series opener, an uneventful experiment in his garage-lab, a lightning storm, and a flash of electricity bring Frank’s inventions—the robots Klink and Klank—to life! Not exactly the ideal lab partners, the wisecracking Klink and the overly expressive Klank nonetheless help Frank attempt to perfect his inventions. In the second book in the series, Frank is working on a revamped version of one of Nikola Tesla’s inventions, the “Electro-Finger,” a device that can tap into energy anywhere and allow all of Midville to live off the grid, with free wireless and solar energy. But this puts Frank in direct conflict with Edison’s quest to control all the power and light in Midville, monopolize its energy resources, and get “rich rich rich.” Time is running out, and only Frank, Watson, Klink, and Klank can stop Edison and his sentient ape, Mr. Chimp!

Integrating real science facts with wacky humor, a silly cast of characters, and science fiction, this uniquely engaging series is an irresistible chemical reaction for middle-grade readers. With easy-to-read language and graphic illustrations on almost every page, this chapter book series is a must for reluctant readers. The Frank Einstein series encourages middle-grade readers to question the way things work and to discover how they, too, can experiment with science. In a starred review, Kirkus Reviews raves, “This buoyant, tongue-in-cheek celebration of the impulse to ‘keep asking questions and finding your own answers’ fires on all cylinders,” while Publishers Weekly says that the series “proves that science can be as fun as it is important and useful.”

Read all the books in the New York Times bestselling Frank Einstein series: Frank Einstein and the Antimatter Motor (Book 1), Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger (Book 2), Frank Einstein and the BrainTurbo (Book 3), and Frank Einstein and the EvoBlaster Belt (Book 4). Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger (Frank Einstein series #2): Book Two, by Jon Scieszka, Brian Biggs

From School Library Journal Gr 2–4—Boy genius Frank Einstein is back and is studying different types of energy. With Grandpa Al's electricity bill skyrocketing, Frank wants to find an alternate way to run all his gadgets. Meanwhile, Frank's archenemy, T. Edison, has purchased the local town power plant and is destroying all his competition. With no alternate source of energy, everyone will have to pay his ridiculous prices. Can Frank stop his nemesis from destroying the town's energy sources? The two-color cartoon illustrations are detailed and engaging. Although a little one-dimensional, the characters are fairly likable and it is easy to root for them. Although the facts are educational and presented in an interesting way, they tend to sideline the story. The plot is straightforward and draws readers into the book with its boy-friendly hijinks, but tends to feel a little forced. VERDICT This book teaches kids a lot in an accessible, easy-to-read format, but may disappoint some of Scieszka's longtime fans.—Kira Moody, Whitmore Public Library, Salt Lake City, UT

Review "There's so much actual information here that the story could pass as a textbook, but science and Scieszka fans won't likely mind." (Kirkus Reviews 2015-02-01)"Scieszka’s furious narrative, full of goofball humor and shenanigans, flies along, accelerated by Biggs’ spot illustrations, diagrams, and scientific figures. And there’s plenty of real science here, too..." (Thom Barthelmess Booklist)

Laugh and learn with Frank and Watson By Wayne A McCoy 'Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger' proves once again that you can laugh and learn at the same time. Jon Sciezka and Brian Briggs have a genius of a series going on here.Frank Einstein and his friend Watson are back along with wise-cracking robots Klink and Klank for another science adventure. This time around the subject is energy, and Frank has an idea for creating energy from the air like Nikola Tesla did. Frank's nemesis is back with his smart sidekick Mr. Chimp. Edison wants to get rich by corralling all the power in town so that everyone has to buy power from him at exorbitant prices. Along the way, we run into grandpa Al Einstein and hear from Frank's always travelling parents. Will Frank and Watson be able to foil Edison this time or will he be triumphant? The book is filled with lots of great drawings and knowledge. Also included is Mr. Chimp's recipe for ants on a log, but I don't recommend trying it. It's a great series, the science is solid and the learning goes down easy without feeling forced. Kudos to the series creators for such a fun series.I received a review copy of this ebook from Abrams, Amulet Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for allowing me to review this great ebook.

This series is my seven year old son's FAVORITE. He talks endlessly about them and has learned so much from them! Of the two released so far, this one is his favorite. He is already saving his money to buy the third when it comes out. He already loved to read before these books, but this is the first time i've seen him read with fervor and passion, and SAVE the last chapter for fear of it all being over. These books have made him a true book-lover.

By Tia's Kindle Shelf "Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger" by Jon Scieska is a fun combination of children's story and science principals. My son picked this out as his birthday contribution to his schools library, and I think it's a wonderful choice. Both my 5 and 8 yr old love this chapter book and all it's fun illustrations. A love letter from the heart of Islam By Grandma Mary First, I love the beautiful illustrations that glow with color and reflect the love of the family shown in the text. Secondly, I appreciate learning about the practice of Islam. I am an American Christian who has only visited mosques as a tourist and observed Muslims through books and newsreels. Thirdly, the lovely girl who is the main character reminds me of my three granddaughters! Good for readers of ALL ages.

There eyes sparkled wide with delight. So did mine. It is rare to find a quality book for Muslim children or about Islamic culture, and this book is rare gem. I admire the book for its simplicity and lyrical rhymes. It is soulful and colorful, a wonderful book for all ages. I even read it to my husband; he too enjoyed it! Strongly recommend.

Beautiful Quality Book By Amazon Customer I'm always looking for great books to either keep for myself or to give as gifts during Muslim holidays...this book fit the bill for both. It's beautifully illustrated and serves as a product to keep or to give away. The only thing is it should be used for a child very young in age as there are hardly any words and it is geared more for a three year old.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. These are SO cool! By Tina Manford I realize as an adult I should tell you about how much fun my two boys have with this book, Manila Skies, but to be honest I think I like making these airplane projects as much as they do when I help them! Jonah, who is only 4, certainly is hard on his and his brother's things sometimes and that's the great benefit of building "paper" airplanes out of manila folders and other sturdier paper goods around the house. Saturday was a big afternoon because it wasn't too windy outside and we all went to the back yard to fly planes they made for about an hour and it was delightful!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Inexpensive Fun For Your Kids By Y. Lawson Not only are the airplanes described inside great-looking, and not only do they come with simple instructions that anyone can use to build the planes, and not only do they build rugged airplanes that stand up to much more play than traditional paper aircraft, but the price of the toys is cheap! How much is a folder or an empty roll of toilet paper you were about to toss? The variety of aircraft is superb. (Tip: If you have very young children, make the Simple Easy Throw Glider first to get him or her used to the idea.)
