As the Scary Tales saga continues, Snow White’s army of zombies and monsters invades the capital city of Platessa. Thousands of lives hang in the balance. An epic battle ensues. The werewolf Red learns that she has a magical birthright and must choose between protecting her lover and avenging her family’s deaths. The dwarf Dim’s past comes back to haunt him in a tragic tale of romance and suffering inspired by the Phantom of the Opera. Amidst the carnage, Grouchy once again comes face to face with his true love, Snow. But Snow has created her most lethal minion yet—the Creeper Queen—a demented amalgamation of the skeletons of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Briar Rose, Thousandfurs, and Adara’s own sister, Bella. With the fate of the Eastern Kingdom—and all of humanity—hanging in the balance, are the magic and talents of Queen Adara and Red strong enough to overcome Snow’s curse?

The adventure continues with even more insight into one of my favorite characters ("Dim") and his backstory is heartwrenchingly complicated in a beautiful way. More revelations on Snow's ancestors and their incredible fairytale weavings leave me astounded at the author's skill. Boley's imagination is extensive, yet still feels so real in the way it is incorporated into the glorious fantasy world. I warn you that this book has a gut-puncher of a cliff hanger that left me seething for not having the sequel yet in print. I seriously cried at loosing some incredible characters (hoping against hope they miraculously survive like "Dim" did in book one!!!) and yelled in frustrated angst at the horrid tangle of predicaments at the end of the novel. The Scary Tales novels totally envelop the reader like no other and, while one part of me doesn't ever want the story to end, I can't wait until Boley reveals how this all works out at the end of the series. Seriously recommend this read -- and all the other tales associated with it!!

This goes beyond a Grimm or fairy tale; it's a visceral and quite grown-up experience. I never imagined the depth these characters could have, but Rob Boley takes them to a whole new level. That Malicious Storm is a terrific read. I never wanted it to end, but instead just wanted to fump around (as the saying goes) and rub bellies with everyone I met. I'm excited to know more about these characters and their bloody adventures. Lastly, can anyone stop Snow??? She's a beast!

The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law addresses every landlord-tenant legal issue that is likely to arise over the course of a lease. From how to find a tenant to what to do once they leave, it is a practical and thorough legal analysis of what Minnesota landlords need to know about complying with the relevant federal, state and local laws. At the end of each chapter you’ll find “Tips from a Tenant Attorney.” These tips offer more creative advice on how landlords can solve difficult legal situations or prevent them from ever occurring. Also included is our exclusive line-by-line analysis of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Model Residential Lease. Instead of guessing what your lease terms mean, this guide tells you why each term exists and how it applies to your situation. This book was written by practicing attorneys in Minnesota who work exclusively in landlord-tenant law. There are dozens of legal guides available online for landlords, but none of them focus on Minnesota statutes and regulations, and when it comes to landlord-tenant legal issues, state law is key. Both authors are currently practicing attorneys with over 25 years of experience in tenant landlord law, advising over 39,000 renters on HOME Line’s tenant hotline. They also train a wide variety of audiences in tenant landlord law, including over 100 trainings to landlord groups throughout Minnesota.

Give me your nerds, your freaks, your huddled outcasts yearning to breathe free. Stick them in Boy Scout uniforms and you’ll have the Hurt Patrol—a sorry bunch of teen rejects who will never make Eagle. Welcome to the clubBeau has been scouting since first grade. Not because he loves it, but because his dad does. It’s the only thing they’ve ever bonded over, what with Beau’s dad being into sports, beer, and brawling. So when they move to yet another Midwest town, Beau expects the usual Boy Scout experience, filled with horribleness and insults. Instead he finds something else entirely. Kicked out of every other patrol, their little band of brothers is equal parts nuts and awesome. For the first time, people are watching Beau’s back instead of throwing things at it. Nice. Novel. And also necessary, when you’re dealing with parents splitting up, crushes, first love, and coming out.The first—and only—rule of Hurt Patrol: We are never going to win—but if you’re outcast elsewhere, you’ll do just fine here.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Straightforward But with Poor Character Voices By Shelumiel *Actual rating: 2.5 out 5 stars.*Once in a while, we stumble upon books that affect us so deeply we feel forever changed after closing the last pages. Then there are those that we abhor so much it's not funny. But every so often we come across ones that we feel indifferent to. Stories we don't have strong opinions for, for better or worse. The Hurt Patrol is such one cookie. One thing I like about this novel is how it depicts bullying as something that is not cool and that you can actually take actions to alleviate, if not wholly prevent, the blows. Sadly, however, that's it. I had hopes for this book. The synopsis got me—the underdog trope—but I didn't feel any connection with the characters. And that may have something to do with the length of the book, because it's quite a short read, which didn't leave much room for characterization. I mean, I know I'm supposed to sympathize with them. But it didn't really come. Beau with his deprecating father and terrible coming-out episode. I wanted to be touched by his story, but all the time there's an air of detachment I cannot quite shake off. Even the family story arc. I love family drama as much as the next person, but here the parents are one-dimensional, especially Beau's father. The narrator, Rusty, is humdrum. And up until the end, Rusty's motives for running away weren't explained. (But maybe it's because Beau's story was the point; I don't know.)There are neat lines every now and then, which is helpful. But it bums me out when I feel apathetic about a book and that's the case with The Hurt Patrol, so much so that when a scoutmaster was talking deep talks, it fell flat. I appreciate what the author's getting at, I really do, but I wasn't invested in the characters enough to be fully hit by the emotional impact.I'm antsy writing negative reviews (this counts as negative, right? Right), as I would rather prefer sharing things that I love. But here it is. The Hurt Patrol is a straightforward story that has cardboard characters. As with all my other reviews, this is highly subjective. You might enjoy stuff I do not and vice versa.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Read the book first By Liviania So many of the questions I had when reading THE HURT PATROL where answered when I realized it was a companion novella to a book I hadn't read, set during that book. I honestly don't know how I manage to select this book for review without knowing that fact, but manage I did.Even knowing that, I think some aspects could be improved. The meat of THE HURT PATROL is layered between two frames. The outermost layer is that Rusty is writing this down as an essay for her teacher. The next layer is that Beau is telling Rusty this story in the car, on their way to Forks, Washington (AKA Twilight town). Both of these layers add little to the story. It neither comes across like someone writing an essay nor someone speaking about their experiences. I assume Mary McKinley was trying to make it sound like BEAU, LEE, THE BOMB, & ME. Given that this is a companion novella, however, I think she could've cut to the chase and just put it in Beau's point of view.THE HURT PATROL is essentially one long, somewhat meandering flashback. It covers Beau's past during his parents' divorce, figuring out that he's gay, losing his best friends, coming to find confidence in himself with the worst Boy Scout ever, and getting gay bashed. It's certainly an ambitious novella. Unfortunately, I can see why it didn't make the main book. Beau's story is a touch shapeless, particularly when shoved into the frame of a road trip that goes nowhere because it happens in another book. There are glimmers of greatness. Beau's dad is a piece of work, admonishing his son not to be a sissy and otherwise berating him and his mother. Yet, Beau still sides with him in a pivotal fight, unable to keep himself from seeking his father's approval and love. It's an excellent glimpse of how complicated families can be, and how children can still unconditionally love parents who don't deserve it.I think fans of BEAU, LEE, THE BOMB, & ME will probably enjoy THE HURT PATROL, especially if Beau is their favorite character and they want to know more about him. It was a bit hard for me to get into without that knowledge, since it's mostly a character sketch. It wasn't terrible, but I just kept feeling as I was reading that I was missing something big, something that would explain how this story was structured. And I guess I was.

By Prof Kitty Sad and funny and full of biting wit; when I got it I didn't understand it was a prequel to her debut novel, Beau, Lee, The Bomb & Me, but once that was clear I found it a wonderful read. Beau's unstated sadness at how he and his father's relationship devolved sounds notes that are truthful and heartbreaking. I have ordered her sequel Rusty Summer and look forward to reviewing that soon, as well.

Beware of Nabu By Stoney "Pleadings and Proofs in the Cases of the New Jersey Zinc Company..." is a paper print of the very same pfd file which is available free from Google and which may be viewed with the free Adobe Reader You can tell that this book is printed from the Google pdf document because the title page contains exactly the same librarian's cataloging marks and notes. The text is described as an OCR reprint. While the Google pdf file has an OCR layer and is therefore searcheable (at least within Google), the paper printout is NOT an OCR reprint---it is a fascimile (comparable to a moderately poor photocopy), complete with stray marks and scanner artifacts which have not been cleaned up. My understanding is that the original contains many important illustrations or "exhibits"---if so they are NOT included in this reprintThe binding is clean and neat---however the title is NOT printed on the spine!!!VERDICTUnless you MUST have a hard copy, just download the pdf file from Google.

This book mixed mythology and the super natural in a way that made me not want to put the book down. The characters were relatable and the dialogue flowed great. Sometimes, if the book doesn't start off interesting, I can't get passed the first few chapters. Not the case with this book. The story starts off quickly and kept my attention throughout. The only problem is I now can't wait for the next book!

From School Library Journal PreS-K—When Asch's iconic Baby Bear tries his first pizza, infatuation is evident in his psychedelic eyes. "He had never tasted anything so yummy!" On the way home, all circular shapes remind him of pizza. He dreams of aliens serving pies with inventive toppings like macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly. The next morning, his parents' offers of breakfast options are repeatedly declined, since Baby Bear only wants pizza. Asch's cartoon scenes of the bear family continue to reflect a 1950s flair. Pennants on the bedroom wall, the restaurant with a moustache-wearing waiter in a tuxedo and a violinist in the background, and even Mama's modest jumper and sensible shoes reflect a pleasant nostalgia.—Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA

2013 was the 50th anniversary of the House of Lords' landmark decision in Hedley Byrne v Heller. This international collection of essays brings together leading experts from five of the most important jurisdictions in which the case has been received (the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Canada and Australia) to reappraise its implications from a number of complementary perspectives-historical, theoretical, conceptual, doctrinal and comparative. It explores modern developments in the law of misstatement in each of the jurisdictions; examines the case's profound effects on the conceptual apparatus of the law of negligence more generally; explores the intersections between misstatement liabilities in contract, tort, equity and under statutory consumer protection provisions; and critically assesses the ways in which advisor liabilities have come to be limited and distributed under systems of 'joint and several' and 'proportionate' liability respectively. Inspired by Hedley Byrne, the purpose of the collection is to reflect on the case's echoes, effects and analogues throughout the private law and to provide a platform for thinking about the ways in which liabilities for misstatement and pure economic loss should be modelled in the modern day. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. COMPENSATION CULTURE? READ THIS By Phillip Taylor MBE COMPENSATION CULTURE? READ THISCRITICAL EXAMINATION OF A WELL-KNOWN AND PIVOTAL CASEAn appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green ChambersHaving noted the subtitle of this book, you know, if you’re a lawyer what it’s about. As co-author Kit Barker explains, ‘there are few twentieth century tort cases as well known, or as often cited in commonwealth jurisdictions as Hedley Byrne & Co Ltd v Heller & Partners Ltd.’ adding that ‘it has been construed as a case about liability for careless words.’ Apart from Donoghue and Stevenson there are few tort cases in the twentieth century that are as well known.A House of Lords landmark decision, the case has certainly excited comment and controversy, no less so now, in its fiftieth anniversary year.Recently launched by Hart Publishing, this book both commemorates and celebrates that decision as well as offering up a rich variety of commentary on it from no less than fourteen contributors mainly from universities in Australia and New Zealand as well as the United Kingdom, but representing five of the most important jurisdictions in which the case applies, namely the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. The law of misstatements in each of the five jurisdictions is examined in depth and from various perspectives with the focus on its meaning, its influence and its basic concepts; for example, ‘voluntary assumptions of responsibility’ and ‘reliance.’To say that Hedley Byrne has generated massive repercussions as well as comment over the past fifty years is the understatement of this century as well as the last. For example, having elevated the importance of the concept of ‘duty of care’ (no bad thing, actually) it has variously been identified rightly or wrongly, as the root cause of the compensation culture. As this fifty year old case continues to influence and impact upon modern law, private law in particular, this book provides a cross-section of contemporary viewpoints and therefore a fulcrum for contemporary discussion on the incredibly wide variety of issues emanating from liabilities for misstatement.Researchers will of course, appreciate the wealth of references contained in the extensive footnoting and also in the twenty-five of so pages of tables of cases and of legislation from the relevant jurisdictions. Also note that the Appendix contains the transcript of the judgment of McNair J. dated 20th December 1960, which makes this book particularly handy for private lawyers. If you need reminding of the details of the case, this section ideally, should be read first. The publication date is cited as at January 2015.
