The Greek god Zeus is depressed for no one has worshiped him for almost two thousand years. At the same time, he suffers from gastrointestinal maladies which have not been remedied by the mythological methods of the physician-god Asclepius and his four physician daughters. He subsequently sends Hercules and King Midas to earth in to attempt to bring Greek mythology to modern man but they are miserable failures and convert to Christianity.  At the Supreme God’s yearly checkup, Asclepius tells Zeus that all of his problems are psychosomatic and that even twenty-first century medicine would be unable to alleviate his symptoms. On a bet, Asclepius offers to return to earth to prove that medicine today is inferior to the ways of the ancients. He joins Dr. Norman Kugelman, an ethical and hardworking Jewish gastroenterologist in New Jersey, who is enmeshed in a failing marriage. Asclepius finds out that current medical practice is much more difficult than he ever imagined and is humbled by the experience. Zeus can no longer stand the pain and he visits Kugelman on earth for a second opinion which includes a colonoscopy. The gastroenterologist makes an unexpected diagnosis while at the same time Zeus gives Kugelman some valuable godly advice but the age old question: did man invent the gods or did god invent man, remains unanswered.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. The Glass Mermaid By Book Blog Bird The Glass Mermaid is a novella about Kate, the last mermaid. She lives on the shore of Lake Eerie collecting pieces of glass washed up by the lake and making them into beautiful jewellery. In the same town lives Cooper, an artist who is dying of cancer and who has come back to the town he grew up in to die.The Glass Mermaid was a quick read, but the author has managed to create two characters who I ended up really rooting for. It’s told from a dual POV and it was lovely to watch Kate and Cooper fall in love even though neither of them were really looking for a romantic attachment. We got some nice back story about Kate’s mermaid heritage as well and why she is the last mermaid.Poppy Lawless’s writing style is very good and she can clearly write a romance without descending into flowery, bodice-ripping language, which is great. The novella is really well plotted - she sticks to the point and ties things up nicely at the end. I was really glad Kate and Cooper got a happy ever after!If I had one thing I would change about this novella, it is that I think it actually had the potential to be a full-length novel. The two MCs are well written, but I would have enjoyed more build-up in their relationship and I would have liked to have seen more of the supporting characters. This isn’t really a criticism as such, because what is in the novella is really good, but yeah, I think it would also have worked as a full length novel.Nevertheless, I would still definitely recommend this if you’re into mermaids and want a sweet romance to read this summer.I received a copy of The Glass Mermaid in exchange for an honest review. By Becky Stephens, Editor and Reviewer The Glass Mermaid is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever had the pleasure of reading.This novella is told from multiple perspectives of two lovely characters, neither of which are looking for love. Yet, both of which are desperate for love. Kate is the last mermaid of a Lake Erie sea kingdom. Cooper has moved in to his grandmother's home to spend his remaining days painting the gorgeous Lake Erie sunrises and sunsets.I enjoyed learning about the fate of Kate's family and why she is the last mermaid--even if it was tragic and heartbreaking. My favorite part of this book is when the light bulb over my head lit up when I realized that Kate's shop, called The Glass Mermaid because she collects sea glass and crafts jewelry from it could also refer to Kate herself, the last, so very alone and fragile mermaid. Poppy Lawless created a magical and beautiful story.The Glass Mermaid could easily be read in one sitting as you soak up some sun at the beach, lake, or poolside. It's the perfect summer romance, even if you don't daydream about being a mermaid.

Wonderful Boardbook By The Invisible Pam Maurice Pledger does some truly wonderful little boardbooks and if you liked PING-PING PANDA (ISBN13: 9781571455789) you might want to follow Ping's adventures in the BAMBOO JOURNEY.THE STORY begins with Ping-Ping finishing with the bamboo where she currently is, only to discover that she is still hungry. So she sets out to discover where her next treat will come from.Ping-Ping sees all sorts of beautiful flowers and woodlands, and along the way she finds many animal friends.WHAT I LOVE about this book are the brilliant colors and all the animals that there are to point-at and name. And the way that Pledger has drawn Ping-Ping's eyes is so realistic and appealing. And well... pandas!Besides Ping-Ping there is a cute red panda named Rusty. There's also Becky Bluebird, Polly Pika, Katie Kingfisher and Hanna Hummingbird who join the search.Other animals include a variety of butterflies, dragon flies, beetles and birds.Adults like me will have lots to talk about and children will love the bright colors and animals.CONSTRUCTION-- The pages and cover and sturdy.-- The front cover has a patch of fur where little ones will be able to 'pet' Ping-Ping.-- Not every page has a pull-down tab. There are four in total. Plus the last page has fold out which makes it 3 panels wide.-- The tabs have a cut-out to help lift the edge but the first time through adults may have to get the tabs started.~WHAT I REALLY THINK:::I've just reviewed two of these boardbooks by Maurice Pledger and I really really like them. The colors are rich and artwork is excellent.The story in this book should appeal to children, and... well, flaps. Everyone likes flaps. But what gets 5 STARS from me is a book that had more than one virtue. And this book and the Dottie Dolphin book have a lot more going for them than flaps and story. You can use the books to teach colors, and to count. Ping-Ping is very hungry and her hunger takes he on a walk to find her favorite food, bamboo. Along the way she comes across from friends who are very willing to help her find the bamboo. The illustrations are just gorgeous and the friends she comes across are very sweet and kind to her. This is a book that young kids will love and have fun lifting the flaps to see what is underneath! 5 stars(PS I will also be using this book in my class Art Through Stories)

By Peter Marks The author shares his considerable practical experience of ham radio in an easy to read and informative book. It covers equipment (including commercial and home brew), antennas, bands, propagation, modes and operating procedures that give the reader valuable tips on how to enjoy success in the challenging art of low power operation. The focus on QRP is, of course, valuable for operators working at all power levels.Peter has always been generous with his contribution to the hobby of amateur radio and this book adds to the information available to newcomers. I look forward to more from VK3YE in the future.

What you need for QRP radio By Bill Adams Mr. Parker brought his considerable enthusiasm, knowledge and conversational ability to the Kindle community and in so doing continued his excellent contributions to amateur radio. I've long been a subscriber to his YouTube channel and web postings where he demonstrates practical applications of ham radio and this practicality transfers well into electronic print. This book is a very good overview of QRP and very well could serve as a standard how to guide for assembling and operating a low power ham station. 73 AF4B

By Charlene Y Fisher My 2 yr old granddaughter LOVES Sheriff Callie coloring books and other items that are hard to find. I was so happy to find this for her and other books so I ordered several. Easy for little hands to open and look at the pages and pictures and fun to read. The pictures hold the interest of little ones who cannot read yet and the characters are cute. I would highly recommend Sheriff Callie series for anyone who loves animals and cute stories. Good for younger kids.
