There are pirates, treasure, hidden clues, and lots of action. This was our bedtime story book, but the 12 chapters only lasted us a week because my son would beg me to read him another chapter!

The story is told from a few different eras, but it's all tied together into an exciting saga. The characters are people that the reader comes to care about and the ending will have you on the edge of your seat.I hope to have more stories from Ms. Angel to read in the near future!

Chilling and well-written story By TFLReader I love a good horror story and particularly one that builds on some sort of legend or true life event, as that just makes them even more chilling. Author Caroline Angel has written a pretty awesome one with "Madman Across the Water". A story that builds on the legend of the Slenderman, this is the story of a town bordering on some scary woods that have been haunted by a creature for generations, only lately it has been getting worse. There is a great mystery to solve behind the creepy monster and there are a lot of horrific losses along the way. Enjoyed the journey with Simon and found this to be very well written, well paced, and imaginative.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Scary on so many levels By laurathomas61 Yes, as the title says, there’s a madman across the water. But there’s something else, something in the woods. Something evil. It comes in the fog. It takes the children. They never return. The thing in the woods has been around as long as the town folk can remember. But it’s never been this bad. Usually it’s a few people or children go missing. But this time is different. It’s leaving the woods, attacking people in their homes, at the hospital, and even at the police station. There’s nowhere you can hide. Running away doesn’t work. It’s simple. It wants you and it will have you.I love horror. Been reading it since I was young. Give me a good scary story and I’m not available for hours. This is a good one. A creeping fog. An ancient evil, a monster, in the woods. What more could I ask for?Well, it takes a lot to creep me out. And this author did a great job of it.I wanted a mystery behind the monster. I got that. It started over a hundred years ago.I wanted things to escalate quickly. They did. People are taken at an alarming rate. That thing is insatiable.I wanted no characters off limits. Got that too. Guess I should warn you here. The author doesn’t shy away from killing off her characters. So don’t get to attached.I wanted a flawed hero. Got more than one of those. There’s the two brothers, their ancestors, their kids, some of the town folk. Many of them stepped up to play the part. A lot of them didn’t make it to the end of the story. And, last but not least, I wanted a truly horrific monster. Boy, did I get that. The thing in the woods is terrifying. It goes wherever it wants. Playfully kills you, like tearing apart a rag doll. And if it lets you live, you’ll wish you were dead. The authors description of how the thing looked was chillingly detailed. Take another look at the cover art. See that thing on the right? By the trees? That’s what’s in the woods. But by the time the author is finished describing it, you’ll see it up close, in all it’s hideous glory. If you’re a horror fan. If you like it in your face. You’ll love this one.I received this book for my honest review.

Birds were "the objects of my greatest delight," wrote John James Audubon (1785 1851), founder of modern ornithology and one of the world s greatest bird painters. His masterpiece, The Birds of America depicts almost five hundred North American bird species, each image lifelike and life size rendered in vibrant color. Audubon was also an explorer, a woodsman, a hunter, an entertaining and prolific writer, and an energetic self-promoter. Through talent and dogged determination, he rose from backwoods obscurity to international fame.

In This Strange Wilderness, award-winning author Nancy Plain brings together the amazing story of this American icon s career and the beautiful images that are his legacy. Before Audubon, no one had seen, drawn, or written so much about the animals of this largely uncharted young country. Aware that the wilderness and its wildlife were changing even as he watched, Audubon remained committed almost to the end of his life to search out the things which have been hidden since the creation of this wondrous world. This Strange Wilderness details his art and writing, transporting the reader back to the frontiers of early nineteenth-century America.

This Strange Wilderness: The Life and Art of John James Audubon, by Nancy Plain

From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—In this insightful biography, Plain demonstrates how naturalist and artist John James Audubon's groundbreaking The Birds of America, published in England in 1827, rocked the art and science worlds through its depictions of birds in naturalistic poses and in their own habitats. Born in Haiti and raised in France, Audubon (1785–1851) displayed a passion for drawing early on. As an adult, living and working in the United States, he struggled to portray birds realistically, eventually using wires to hold his specimens on boards in lifelike poses. Readers will get a strong sense of how devoted the man was to his cause, often leaving his family to roam the American wilderness hunting birds or to work on his book in England. Through beautifully crafted prose, Plain vividly describes the land Audubon loved, often in his own words, quoted from his letters. Audubon's stunning artwork is beautifully reproduced and paired with his thoughts on specific illustrations. Readers will also appreciate the inclusion of relevant paintings, photographs, and other images. This narrative of the life of a dedicated and hard-working figure is the story of an amazing individual and a glimpse into the natural history of the early United States. VERDICT An excellent addition to science and biography collections.—Frances E. Millhouser, formerly at Fairfax County Public Library, VA

Review "Plain chronicles Audubon's adventurous life in a succinct, absorbing narrative that is well researched, meticulously documented, and beautifully written. . . . This biography offers a vivid introduction to Audubon's life and work."—Carolyn Phelan, Booklist starred review (Carolyn Phelan Booklist 2015-04-01)"Like Audubon's paintings, this volume 'glow[s] with life.' A superb introduction to the life and times of a great American artist and naturalist."—Kirkus starred review (Kirkus 2015-01-15)"Nancy Plain provides readers of all ages a concise introduction to the naturalist's prophetic role in the establishment of the American conservation movement."—True West (True West)"Plain has chosen quirky and interesting snippets of Audubon’s life, nicely illustrated with 44 color plates, for this readable and fascinating little book."—Star Tribune (Star Tribune 2015-06-07)"Definitely a book children and adults will enjoy."—Roundup Magazine (Roundup Magazine)“This Strange Wilderness is like walking through a secret door into early nineteenth-century America. Nancy Plain’s stellar prose and meticulous research, combined with the glorious paintings of John James Audubon, will delight readers of all ages.”—Candace Simar, author of the Spur Award–winning Abercrombie Trail series  (Candace Simar 2014-09-16)

MARKLEY Nancy Plain’s This Strange Wilderness: The Life and Art of John James Audubon joins her long list of masterpiece writing. Plain tells the life story of John James Audubon in a concise, lively manner. Her book is illustrated with the great artwork of America’s premier ornithologist. Together the smooth engaging prose and the excellent choice of images will keep young and old thoroughly engaged to the end and wanting to learn more about Audubon and his work.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great book for middle-school readers By Alison Beautifully illustrated with drawings, paintings, engravings, and photographs, Plain’s work is an excellent introduction for middle-schoolers to stories that were once a staple in American schools. Young readers may be especially entertained by the account of Jean-Jacques’s own school days in Rochefort: an “expert hooky player and adventurer,” the young Audubon soon enough flunked out of the academy and turned to nature for the rest of his education.Plain’s prose is appropriately simple and straightforward, and four pages are devoted to a glossary defining terms and names, from “Bachman” to “zoology,” that might be new to the young reader. This is well-told history, warts and all.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I couldn't put it down and learned much about Audubon that I never knew! By Stuart Dunn One could argue that no one loved birds more than John James Audubon. He devoted his life to discovering and painting every North American species of birds. The book This Strange Wilderness is a biography of Audubon and also includes some of his artwork, which is stunning if you have never seen it. The book begins with Audubon's birth in Haiti and the death of his mother he never knew. His father, a French sea captain and plantation owner, took him back to France where he and his wife Anne raised James and his half-sister Rose. James' father was responsible for his love of birds and his passion for illustrating them. Audubon was never happy with his drawings. He was so disappointed with them that he burned the drawings every year on his birthday with a vow to do better. The book then chronicles the horrors in France, including the French Revolution, and Audubon's engineered escape to America. It was here where Audubon met his wife. He had three children by her, two boys, and a girl who died at a very early age. Audubon had several failed business ventures and contributed much to the study of bird migration, ornithology, and taxonomy while attempting to provide for his family in these business ventures that failed. There are times in this book that Audubon didn't come off as a particularly great husband or father, as he left his wife (albeit with her blessing) to pursue his lifelong ambition of finding, painting, and cataloging every bird in North America. The book continues to trace Audubon's journey across America and his keen insight into birds and sadly their eventual extinction.Reading through this book felt like reading a story, not a dry biography. The Audubon quotes demonstrated both his intelligence and his personality. The book also is full of photographs of the Audubons and Audubon's beautiful paintings. I also learned a lot about Audubon that I never knew, such as his early childhood and the fact that he drew mammals after he completed his book of birds. This was a fascinating read and one that I would recommend for middle-school and up. It contains a nice blend of science and history and would also make an excellent book for the homeschooling crowd!

This is the magic story of the LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD. told in rhymes for your delight. The beautiful illustrations will be found inside the book.Enjoy the reading! Once there lived a child so pretty; she was also sweet and witty. Her mother made a cape so red; along with a hood to fit on her head. Little Red’s mom made some fresh bread, “Go take these to your ill granny,” she said. Little Red’s granny lived a few miles down, near an old mill at the edge of town. A wolf came by as she continued to walk, she didn’t know it was dangerous to talk. The wolf seemed friendly and nice, she didn’t see the evil in his eyes. “Where are you off to, little child? why are you alone in the wild? You walk through this path alone, with vines and bushes overgrown.” “Oh I’m off to see my granny who is sick, I took this path because it’s quick. I have fresh bread for her to eat, It’s still a bit hot and just a bit sweet.” The wolf was hungry; hungry for days, and he had his wicked ways. He said farewell and raced for the place; to eat a child- he had lots of space! The wolf saw that granny wasn’t there, and it was time to lay his plans bare. Red came knocking on the door: “Granny, are you better than before?” “Come in, child. Granny misses you so, come closer for I can’t stand, you know.” “Granny, why do you sound hoarse?” “I’m still feeling ill, of course!” “I’ve brought you something to eat; this will be a good treat. Mother baked some bread just for you, to help you cope with your flu.” The bad wolf had worn granny’s dress; could Little Red Riding Hood have a guess? Red inched closer for a better look; and one glance was all it took. “Granny, what big ears you’ve got; how could it have changed a lot?” “All the better to hear you Red, now come closer to my bed?” “Granny, how big your eyes are too.” Red’s curiosity grew and grew. “All the better to see you Red, now come closer so I can kiss your head.” “But Granny, your arms are big; and your hair looks like a funny wig. So changed and sharp are your teeth, it feels like you’re different underneath!” “And so you are right little Red!” The wolf then sprang from the bed. Red gasped and tried to run; she looked for help but there was none! A hunter came with a large knife; just in time to save Red’s life. He grabbed the wolf before it could bite, and cut of its head with all his might. The wicked wolf was now dead, and in town the word had spread. Red was the safest she could be- and with kisses from mother and granny! AND THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS: Don’t trust strangers right away. Fun Rhymes with a Message ♥ By Caroline I am nine years old and I like this book because it was like Red Riding Hood but even better because of the catchy rhyme it was told with which made it so different and more fun to read than other Little Red Riding Hood books. The character drawings in this book are amazing and I liked the drawings of the trees so much that I want to try to draw my trees like that from now on. They are sooo cool and cute. =)The story also had a really good message that I think everyone should know. Kind of like “Stranger Danger” that I learnt about at school. It’s super important that kids like me know just in case there is a big bad wolf (person) in our own neighborhood or wherever we are so we know of the danger so we can be more careful & stay safe. But if we didn’t know that there was any bad people out there in the world we would be like Red Riding Hood and that could turn out bad. This is a fun book to read but also a super first book to learning about “Stranger Danger”, too. I’ve read it to my little brother and I even told him about being careful about strangers even if they might be good you still need to be careful. ✌(-‿-)✌

By Don Kidwell ...Little Red's mom made some fresh bread, "Go take these to your ill granny," she said.' Delightful rhyming children's book with awesome illustrations perfect for reading to the kiddos, and what with it being so close to Mother's Day I'd think it one of the better Grimm's fairy tales for the occasion. Very good book! One of a dozen or so books reviewed a couple of weeks prior to Mother’s Day so that you have time to read and enjoy them yourself!

From the author of "The Tabernacle" comes a new, can't-miss commentary. The book of Hebrews contends for Jesus Christ's divinity, proving He fulfills the Messianic hope of Israel. It explains His incarnation, priesthood, testing, faith, endurance, substitutionary death for sin, and His resurrection and New Covenant ministry. Hebrews teaches the supremacy, superiority, and sufficiency of the God-Man, Jesus Christ. The epistle also exhorts, warns, and encourages Jewish believers not to leave their faith in Christ because of persecution but, rather, to strive on toward spiritual maturity. It counsels them to be compassionate, content, consistent, committed, and consecrated in their faith.

You Nest Here With Me, by Jane Yolen, Heidi Stemple

From School Library Journal PreS-K—As she puts her daughter to bed, a mother shares a soothing rhyme about birds that nest in places far and near. Each rhymed triplet is followed by the repeated assurance: "But you nest here with me." Sweet's watercolor and gouache landscapes reveal adult birds watching over nestlings. Coots hide in cozy cattail reeds; terns wheel above cliffs; plovers explore sandy shores. Each vista includes many details for viewers to ponder. Older listeners (or adult readers) can find additional information about the featured birds in two pages of authors' notes, which encourage prospective bird watchers. However, the book probably will be read most often as a comforting prelude to sleep. VERDICT A worthwhile purchase for collections that need new selections for bedtime sharing.—Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University Library, Mankato

Review * "Do we need another good night book? The answer is unequivocally yes. . . . This delights the eye, mind and heart." —Booklist, starred review". . . a gentle rhyming bedtime story that spotlights 14 birds' nesting habits and habitats. A well-crafted and informative window onto the world of winged creatures." —Publishers Weekly"As she puts her daughter to bed, a mother shares a soothing rhyme about birds that nest in places far and near. . . . A worthwhile purchase for collections that need new selections for bedtime sharing."—School Library Journal"With an easy cadence and a comforting anchor, Yolen and Stemple drift from cowbird to killdeer, bedding down winged creatures while always returning to the safety of mom and home. . . . The text and the images work well together, balancing the mood of quiet comfort with avian description. . . . As a whole, the book ably carries readers past many flying friends and lands with ease in a safe nest." —Kirkus Reviews

I've been talking to my 20 month old grandson about the birds at our feeders and wanted an illustrated storybook featuring birds for both him and his 6 year old sister. I'm so happy that I found this one. The lilting rhythm and beautifully detailed pictures will make this an instant favorite. Thank you to the authors.

I like it, I guess, but I thought it would have textured pages - actual stitches the child could feel (not sure why I was thinking that when it was ~$6). I tried to feel it myself, and my child copied me, or seemed like he wanted to touch, too. Font is pretty cool - computer age font. It's about one paragraph of each nursery rhyme, enough to fill up a page (so don't expect full nursery rhyme). Nice set of common known nursery rhymes. Related: a cool app with animated songs is Gigglebellies (if you allow electronics). There's also a cool pop up nursery rhyme book we like. What I would really like is a book with musical nursery rhymes, but the only one I found so far is the plastic one :/ Let me know if anyone has any recommendations :)Rhymes in order of appearance:- Hickory Dickory Dock (my child tried to open up the clock thinking there was a flap like Dear Zoo or Spot books)- Jack and Jill- Baa, Baa Black Sheep- Itsy Bitsy Spider- Humpty Dumpty- Little Miss Muffet- Hey Diddle Diddle- One, two, three, four, five! Once I caught a fish alive- Polly put the kettle on- Pussycat, Pussycat, where have you been?- Pat-a-cake- Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star- Jack Be Nimble- Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary- Row, Row, Row Your Boat- It's Raining, It's Pouring

Adorable illustrations By Amazon Customer I love the use of thread, yarn and fabric to create the illustrations - it gives each page the look of having texture and depth. I think the imaginative typography coordinates well with the images. My son is only a few months old so he doesn't have much of an opinion about books yet, but I enjoyed reading the mix of familiar and lesser-known (to me, anyway) nursery rhymes to him. I think this book would really appeal to parents interested in fiber arts.

When a new girl arrives in town, AJ thinks nothing of it. It’s only when her best friends, Julie and Jaime, begin ignoring her that she wonders why Celine is insinuating herself into AJ’s life. As her life begins to fall apart in many different directions, she realizes that the “new girl” is intent upon destroying everything AJ holds dear. Yet, when her almost-boyfriend finds incriminating evidence against Celine, revealing that this girl is not who or what she claims to be, AJ refuses to allow him to disclose it. Before AJ can settle the score with Celine, she must confront the unexpected divorce of her parents and her now unstable relationship with her father; navigate a new and shaky friendship with one of her former BFFs, and learn to cope with a devastating tragedy that comes out of nowhere.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Best Friends, Sometimes By Beverly's Reviews The middle school years. The years when one day you have a best friend, the next day your best friend has a different best friend. These are the years of confusion, when every event in your life is a major catastrophe. The years you want to forget.Author Mikki Sadil’s MG/Tween e-novel, CHEERS, CHOCOLATE, AND OTHER DISASTERS, is a great example of the meaning of true friendship. Alyson Joanne, aka AJ and her best friends, Julie and Jaime, plan to try out for the cheerleading squad. Enter the new girl in school, Celine, and AJ’s once best friends are now Celine’s best friends, and they’ll try out together, leaving AJ on the team with losers Amberley and Lisa. Not only has AJ lost her best friends, her parents are getting a divorce, and her mare that she loves dearly comes down with the colic. That’s a lot for a girl to deal with. The author has developed her characters realistically as AJ and the other girls struggle with the meaning of true friendship, their own identities, and the fact that some things in life are more important than cheerleading. As I read CHEERS, CHOCOLATE, AND OTHER DISASTERS, my thoughts went back to my middle grade years, the insecurities, the need for friends, and the disappointments when we didn’t make cheerleader or majorette or whatever else we wanted to be. Ms. Sadil’s story is about discovering what’s really important in life and understanding that things do not always turn out the way one hopes. This e-book would make a great addition to middle-school libraries and classrooms as well as your town library. And don’t forget your personal library.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Bravo for Cheer, Chocolate, and Other Disasters By Susan B. I just finished Mikki Sadil's Tween/MG novel, Cheers, Chocolate, and Other Disasters and I absolutely loved this well-crafted story. The message of the book is about bullying and it conveys that well, but the story-line or I should say story-lines were exciting and kept my interest from start to finish. I had read Ms. Sadil's, The Freedom Thief which was excellent and so I assumed Cheers would be as well and I wasn't disappointed.AJ, the protagonist is a thirteen year old girl who has many insecurities that she has to deal with: friendship, bullying, death, divorce. A lot for a person that age. Ms. Sadil weaves all of these into a suspenseful adventure that pulls the reader into this compelling story and keeps them wanting to come back for more. And Ms. Sadil does not candy-coat real life experiences in either of her books.I hope there is a sequel to this book. I definitely would love to read it.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. WOW! This is a must read for every middle-grader. By Claudette J. Young Mikki Sadil is a writer who delivers a layered story. Her Middle Grade book, “Cheers, Chocolate, and Other Disasters” captures the attention early and never lets the reader go.Alyson Joanne (AJ) Devlin is the kind of main character you want to spank one minute and cheer on the next. She’s spunky but sensitive, and her world has toppled into a morass of circumstances that threaten to put too great a strain on her young shoulders.Sadil’s portrayal is made more powerful by the intensity with which she draws her characters. Even minor characters are given a roundness not seen in many books for young readers. The reader can’t help but wonder if some of these personalities are plucked from flesh and blood examples. It’s not often that an adult can get sucked into the world of middle school students and their personal dramas. It’s also not common when at the end of such a book the adult reader is looking for more of the story. This reader went looking for more. I wanted to know how she fared with her new boyfriend, the fate of her nemesis Celine Carroll, and her new friends and cheerleading partners.I wanted it all. Not that the book ended in the wrong place or with threads left untied. Au contraire, all threads were tied into bows, but I wanted more. I wasn’t done with the story yet. This amazingly fast read rarely paused for deep breaths. Mikki Sadil has a major winner on her hands with this one. I can honestly give it a Brava! Now, the big question. Will there be a sequel? Will AJ make reappearance with new adventures? I don’t have answers. As a reader, I’m gratified to know that Sadil’s first book, “Freedom’s Thief,” won’t stand alone as an excellent example of this writer’s talent. If you haven’t read “Freedom’s Thief” yet, pick up a copy. The same thoroughness of detail, both material and emotional, brings the Civil War and slavery's issues to the forefront and breathes life into them for young readers on a level they can understand.

What is a family? Once, it was said to be a father, mother, boy, girl, cat and dog living in a house with a garden. But as times have changed, families have changed too, and now there are almost as many kinds of families as colours of the rainbow - from a mum and dad or single parent to two mums or two dads, from a mixed-race family to children with different mums and dads, from families with a disabled member to those with a mum or dad in prison. Mary Hoffman takes a look through children's eyes at the wide varieties of family life: from homes, food, ways of celebrating, schools and holidays to getting around, jobs and housework, from extended families, languages and hobbies to pets and family trees - and she concludes that, for most people, their own family is the best one of all! With Ros Asquith's delightful pictures, this book takes a fresh, optimistic look at families of today.

You'll see families of every type--and not are ridiculed. It talks about kids who live with moms and dads, or just one parent...or grandparents... or two mommies or two daddies....or adopted and foster families. Talks about kids who go to school, kids who homeschool. Kids who live in all different types of places--including homeless families. Big families and really small families ("You can be a family with just two people.") Book features a lot of different ethnicities--and even includes a Muslim family in traditional clothes. Talks about a wide variety of holidays people celebrate including diwali, eid, etc. (Doesn't go in depth, but does mention them.) Also talks about people having different circumstances...in some families both parents work, other families nobody works, etc.I know that there are those who are very conservative might not like the mention of same sex families--but that is the reality of the world we live in. The kids in those families didn't choose their parents or their parents' sexuality--and the too should be able to feel that their family is fine. Wouldn't you rather your child be the one who is kind to the kid whose family might not fit the norm rather than the one who is known as the bully? And let's be honest, reading about a two mommy family isn't going to cause your daughter to become a lesbian--anymore than liking to watch Glee will turn your son gay. It's one half of one page...skip it if you must, but don't skip this book. It's wonderful.

I'm finally buying this book because I just can't check it out of the library one more time without feeling tremendously guilty for taking it....again!This is a fun and fabulous book meant to teach children about diversity and tolerance. The illustrations are engaging, with so much to look at and laugh at. My 3 year old son and I can spend 15 minutes on just one page, there is so much to explore and talk about. He is still too young to grasp the controversial aspect of some of the families included in the book (fueling many of the ridiculously bigoted reviews I have just read) but I know that being exposed to all the possible ways a family can look and "be" will only help him to be a beautiful, accepting, open minded individual as he grows...hopefully into a wise & compassionate soul who will be able to stand up for his own right and the rights of ALL people to live as they choose when LOVE is the driving force.

A wide variety of families are shown, and the book covers a lot of ground in how families live -- who is part of the family, what family members do, and where families live. We have a two-mom family and we love this book, and are buying it for our kids' school.

A Backyard Birding Adventure: What's in Your Yard?, by Kermit Cummings

About the Author Kermit C. Cummings grew up in North Texas and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1955 with a degree in business administration. Upon graduation, he was employed by Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Co. and spent his entire career with that firm, working in Dallas, TX, Sacramento, CA, Augusta, GA, and Alexandria, LA, before retiring in 1993. While living in Augusta, and convalescing following a surgery, a friend loaned him a copy of Song and Garden Birds of North America. Although Cummings considered himself aware of the natural world and the outdoors, he was amazed at the number of bird species to which he was oblivious. The same friend also introduced him to the concept of ''life listing,'' which is a personal listing of bird species, numbered in the order seen following the creation of the list. Other details usually include date and location of the sighting. Keeping a list appealed to his competitive nature, and it didn't take long for Cummings to become a self-taught birder. Through the ensuing years and into retirement, Cummings has pursued his hobby far and wide, looking for birds wherever his travels have taken him. He has influenced many among his family and friends to join the huge number of people in this country interested in and dedicated to the pursuit of new birds for their life lists. Cummings has been an active member of a number of birding-related organizations, including the Louisiana Ornithological Society, where he served as a member of the board of directors for several years. He now resides in Huntsville, TX, with his wife Dorothy.

I love it when I find a book that addresses several objectives for my kids. This book does that: it is a nonfiction text introducing the reader to 10 different birds one is likely to encounter at home or in the park, and it rhymes, making it a great read-aloud while promoting phonemic awareness for pre- and early readers. The rhyming is comfortable, not forced, and introduces facts about the birds regarding how they sound, look, and behave. I like that the book has both real photographs and illustrations making it a lovely picture book. This will make a wonderful addition to any home or classroom library!

While searching for gifts for younger members of my family I wanted to find something that involved nature and interaction with friends and family of all ages. Mr. Cummings' book provided what I was searching for. With spring finally in the air, the sounds of birds are everywhere. Having read this book, I found myself being more aware and curious about which birds were making each sound. I especially loved that at the end of the book the author included a note to parents on getting started with the hobby of "birding." This information was so concise that it made this adventure feel doable, not only for young and old alike, but in the ability to encourage others in this wonderful hobby. If you are looking for the gift of togetherness, learning and nature, this is your book.

I love the colorful, fun illustrations, but appreciate that there are also actual photos of each bird. An interesting fact or characteristic about each bird is included. I already bought two of these books, but have returned to buy five more....they will make wonderful gifts for my grandchildren! I hope Mr. Cummings will write a second book and feature ten more birds!

Powell The insurance companies defend personal injury claims as a business and they know what they are doing and how they can reduce the value of your claim. This is likely your first involvement in the legal system and you may be naive about what is ahead of you. So, please read this book and be prepared for battle, protect your rights and save your claim. Read this book today! This is important information for anyone involved in a personal injury claim. Karen and Michael lay out the hard facts of what an injured victim can expect from the insurance company defense teams, their lawyers, their doctors, and their investigators. This book is easy to read and full of valuable information. Anyone who reads this book can easily preserve or increase the value of their personal injury case by not making simple mistakes. How do I know? I am a veteran trial lawyer who has witnessed defense teams consistently shred innocent victims claims who made simple mistakes. Such things as giving a recorded statement, being tricked into doing something by an investigator who videotapes it and uses it against them. Mistakes like not going to the doctors, or failing to tell the doctors about prior problems. This book will guide you through the litigation jungle and save you stress, frustration and financial losses.Be prepared by knowing what to do to protect yourself.
