Winston AKA Winnie (The AKA in this case means Affectionately Known As) is a senior dog that was rescued from an animal pound. A beautiful but aging dog that many had given up on. Sounds like the manner in which we take care of our elderly, doesn't it?Society doesn't regard the aging or the infirmed in the same manner as the young and healthy. And, that goes for dogs also.In this short story, Winnie loves to play at the beach, go for hikes and give free hugs and kisses to any and all that would like some. One of his favorite places to visit is the nursing home where love and kisses are shared in both directions. Well, Winnie develops a sore paw and his Vet tells the owner that he must not walk on it for awhile. This is indeed a dilemma for the Mom but she decides that a little red wagon (see picture to the upper left) will do just fine for Winnie. Even his sisters want to go for a spin! So, yes, there is a moral to this wonderful story. Spread kindness and love even when one is not in excellent health. Winnie continues on his sharing and caring life despite his health issues. The author suggests this book is for ages 3 - 5. The pictures included are all wonderful and illustrate the message of the text perfectly. Personally, I think that an older audience will learn a life lesson in this book.I feel a deep connection to Winnie and the other aging dogs in this book. I have a senior citizen boxer dog age 10 that has a right rear hock problem. The winter in Vermont has been brutal with ice and snow and we have toughed it out together. And, yes her leg is getting progressively worse. I will not put her down yet as she still shares love with me and the new puppy in our cabin. She still has some quality of life and she does not exhibit any pain. We will continue on with our journey together as long as her eyes are bright and her tail is wagging! Most highly recommended. Please note that I received a free PDF copy of this book for review purposes..

This means an older dog rescued from a do pound or an animal shelter. Lots of times people go looking for young dogs, and they do not really know that older or senior dogs have a lot to offer. In this case Winnie came from the dog pound into a family with other dogs. He was such a great dog, his family decided he might be a wonderful service dog. Older dogs are more quiet and do not get as anxious or excited as younger dogs.Winnie went to visit older people in senior living centers or any place where seniors come together to meet. Almost everyone likes dogs, and to have the ability to hug and pet a dog gives folks a feeling of comfort and peace. Some service dogs visit people in hospitals, how wonderful is that? People who are sick may feel much better after a visit from a furry friend. Winnie also was able to take part in many other activities. And, then one day, Wimnie developed a limp and had to go to the animal doctor, a veterinarian. When you read this book you will discover what happened and how Winnie was able to keep up with his friends. The author, Lisa Domeny wrote this book so that all people could see and understand the value of having an older dog. Parents/teachers and children will all enjoy this story. Learning about senior dogs and service dogs will serve everyone well in our communities. The photos are colorful and fun, and we follow Winnie on his adventures. A lvely story for every member of the family. Note: a complimentary copy of this book was provided to read and review.Recommended. prisrob 04-07-15
