I'm not much for memoirs but after I read Matt's blog, with humor right up my alley, I knew I had to give this a read. Matt lays all of his faults out there during his formative Freshman year of college and does so in a way that makes me laugh like few authors can. He does a fantastic job of both celebrating the world of conservative Christianity while having fun with the peculiarities that arise due to it's insular nature. His voice does a great job of bringing you back to those early years of awkwardness, uncertainty, having too much time on your hands, and ideas so stupid they're great.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hilarious and thoughtful By Jamie Kocur Matthew Pierce has a way of writing that will keep you engaged and incredibly entertained. I love the way he doesn't take his past self too seriously. He does a beautiful job of painting a picture of the scene, and his internal dialogue is perfect. I could relate to much of his college angst and struggles.I felt the prequel to this story (Homeschool Sex Machine) was a bit better. JV Superstar had a few stories that didn't seem to contribute to the overall theme of the memoir. Nonetheless, they still had me giggling. I will look forward to any future works by this author.

I recommend that if you have any experience in homeschooling, Christian fundamentalism, teenage awkwardness, Christian college, or anything like that, read both.
