He enjoyed it as much if not more than the Stink books and previous Judy Moody and Stink adventures together. The plot follows the exploits of the sibling pair and their grandmother as they are all stuck in the house during a blackout. Kids will likely cheer along with Judy and Stink when school is cancelled and appreciate their attempts to scare their grandmother.

McEvoy There are now over 35 books between the different series that include Judy Moody and Stink Moody. And while some of the books that focus more on one or the other of them the best books are the four when they are featured together. In part because they come fully illustrated by Peter H Reynolds in full color, and in part because Jody and Stink are always better together. The first two cross over book The Holly Joliday focused on the holiday of Christmas, the second cross over book focused on family vacation and The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Mad Treasure Hunt. This one focuses around an extended blackout during a hurricane. And as usual when they Moody's are working together rather than fighting some great things happen. The chapters in this book are:Crash LandingElmerBig Bad BlackoutGhost ToastiesHurricane AnnabelleAnnie Oakley and the FiremanMr. Drybones and the ViperThe Ghost of WeejieUp Periscope! The Ghost-Toastie OathAs mentioned a hurricane hits and the Moody's are at home, and it is so bad that Gradma Lou has been evacuated and she comes to wait out the storm with them. But of course being a Moody adventure it is not that simple, Granma Lou had to being the neighbour's pets that they could not take to a shelter. So We now have mom, Dad, Granma, Judy, Stink, a cat named Mouse and a Pug named Pugsy, Milo a ferret and Candy Cane a snake. The Moody household is packed full and then the power goes out. No TV, little radio, but they have a fireplace, games and the family together. A great stay at home adventure takes place.I really enjoy all the Moody books, but these joint books are always just a little more fun. It is a great book in a fun series that is linked to so many other good reads. So if you have not yet met the Moody's give it a try and if you have I am sure you will love it.

By Young Mensan BookParade Judy Moody & Stink: The Big Bad Blackout is a thrilling and humorous story about a family in the midst of a giant storm which causes a blackout. This book contains ten chapters with three of them being surprising, amusing stories told by the characters: Dad, Mom, Judy, Stink, and Grandma Lou.I liked this book because of the funny characters. The author’s writing style made the blackout extra exciting! One chapter, called “The Ghost of Weejie,” is a silly part of the book in which Judy and Stink play a board game. The two characters think there is a ghost in the fortune teller game they are playing, because it predicts that they will have no school the next day. Eerily, at that moment, Mom walks into the room and says, “Guess what, kids? No school tomorrow either. I just got a robo-call on my cell phone from the superintendent’s office.”My favorite part was the chapter called, “Mr. Drybones and the Viper.” In it are two hilarious stories that I think other readers will also enjoy. As an added bonus to this dilemma in the dark, there are some surprises and jump scares throughout the book. A few of them really caught me off guard! This book receives a 5-star rating, since it is such a fun read! I especially enjoyed the “glow in the dark” front cover of the book, which really went well with the blackout scenario. I recommend this book to boys and girls ages 6-10 years old. It is a quick, easy chapter book that is manageable, even for the younger ages. So, if you’re in a blackout, grab a flashlight and read, Judy Moody and Stink: The Big Bad Blackout! This book truly is glowing!Reviewed by Brooke Z, age 8, Delaware Valley Mensa
