From the Author Even when they try their best, some children struggle to have neat handwriting, put their thoughts into writing, copy from the board, or even copy a math problem from a textbook onto paper. Many of these children have dysgraphia which is a writing learning disability. I wrote this book to help give children understanding that it's ok to have writing challenges and there are things we can do to help. This book gives children understanding, hope, and solutions for helping. I'm the parent of a child with dysgraphia and understand how embarrassing it can be for a child's handwriting to look like they are much younger than their age or even have a teach blame them for not trying. Children with dysgraphia are smart but their handwriting can make them feel dumb. "Terrific Teddy's Writing Wars" helps children realize other people have handwriting difficulty too including some highly successful people.
About the Author Jim Forgan is a special education professor and licensed school psychologist in South Florida. He helps parents help children through his books and professional services. In his private practice he evaluates children for dyslexia; (reading problems); dyscalculia (math problems); dysgraphia (writing problems); ADHD/ADD; processing problems; and social-emotional disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and opposition. Jim Forgan and his associates also offer services for helping families help children. Dr. Forgan understands learning differences from the parent and professional perspective. I have an 8 year old son with NVLD which includes dysgraphia. The book does serve the purpose of letting the child read it and know that he's not alone. I got it for my son's 9th birthday. It would be an appropriate book for this age range. And it's very easy to read and comprehend.
