From School Library Journal PreS—A tiny fly imitates his insect friends before finding his own unique abilities. Worm can "WIGGLE!" with aplomb, but Fly's tentative "wiggle?" attempt falls flat. A row of ants "MARCH! MARCH! MARCH!" with military precision, but Fly is out of step and facing the wrong direction. While gazing at bees, butterflies, and dragonflies, Fly is inspired to flap his own wings and triumphantly realizes he can "Yes! Fly!" Edwards's colorful, digitally created cartoon illustrations humorously capture the little bug's wide-eyed trepidation as he tries to shimmy and swing like a spider and his clenched-jaw determination as he tries to jump like a grasshopper. VERDICT The spare text, comprised entirely of action words, will have toddlers buzzing with excitement.—Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canada
Review “In fewer than 20 words, Edwards pieces together a story of grand willpower and discovery...Toddlers will cheer this tale of exploration while simultaneously jumping to their feet to try every action, right along with Fly.” —Kirkus Reviews"Edwards’s colorful, digitally created cartoon illustrations humorously capture the little bug’s wide-eyed trepidation as he tries to shimmy and swing like a spider and his clenched-jaw determination as he tries to jump like a grasshopper." —School Library Journal "The seriously simple text, sometimes with just one repeated word per spread, makes excellent use of action verbs, so this could serve equally well as a beginning reader and a readaloud cue for some audience action." —The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

A cuddle-up read like Good Night Moon meets the life-message of The Little Engine that Could. Fly imitates his garden insect buddies and discovers through failure his own best self. Yes, our little hero fails to dig like a beetle or wiggle like a worm but through that process discovers what he was made to be and do: FLY! Classic children's books work both for the adult reader and the young listener. This is a modern classic. We've put it in our local school library and the homes of our adult children. You should too.

In addition to enjoying the adorable bug illustrations, all three of us girls love to act out the insect movements together as prompted by the story. This book creates an opportunity to share loads of laughter as well as a chance to talk about self-esteem and being happy to be yourself. The “Bug Facts” at the end of the story also lead us to more topics to explore together. A must-have book for parents and grand parents of toddlers!

I shared it with my three grandchildren, twins age 5 and a 1 year old. It was so cute as the older twins read thebook to their little brother. Then they acted out the wiggles, marching, etc. for their younger brother. Everyone ended up giggling a lot. This book is for pre-schoolers, but the older twins had fun practicing their reading and then showing their younger brother how to move his body.It is a very nice book for young children to enjoy together.
